MASTER CLASS WITH SHANNON RODRIGUEZ Meet Shannon Rodriquez Ms. Rodriguez received her dance training at the Timothy M. Draper Center for Dance Education, the official school of the Rochester City Ballet. She was invited to attend Alonzo King LINES Ballet summer intensive, San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, Perry Mansfield summer intensive, and has attended summer intensives at both the Juilliard School and The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago. Ms. Rodriguez performed alongside the Rochester City Ballet in notable roles that include Lead Spanish Chocolate in “The Nutcracker”, Daniel Gwirtzman’s “Encore”, and George Balanchine’s “Serenade”. After training, she attended the University of Arizona on scholarship where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance after just two and a half years. While at the University of Arizona, Ms. Rodriguez performed River North Dance Chicago repertoire “Evolution of a Dream”, George Balanchine’s “Rubies”, Ernie Flatt’s “Firebird”, as well as many soloist roles in works by Michael Williams and James Clouser. Ms. Rodriguez also choreographed a solo that was selected to premier at the Stevie Eller Dance Theatre in 2014. Following graduation, Ms. Rodriguez returned to Rochester and is currently a Company Member with the Rochester City Ballet. Ballet and Contemporary Classes ! Shannon is classically trained in both Vaganova and Cecchetti. Both are methods of ballet technique and set training systems. " Vaganova is designed to involve the whole body in every movement, with equal attention paid to the upper body, legs and feet. It’s believed that this approach increases consciousness of the body, thus creating a harmony of movement and greater expressive range. ! The Cecchetti method is especially concerned with anatomy within the confines of classical ballet technique, and seeks to develop the essential characteristics of dance in its students through a rigid training regime. The goal is for the student to learn to dance by studying and internalising the basic principles, in an effort to become self-reliant rather than imitating the movements executed by their teacher. Well-trained Cecchetti dancers have a purity of line and simplicity of style which enables them to take their places in dance companies of other genres of classical ballet. ! Shannons Contemporary class style ranges from intense and expressive to athletic or fluid. Class begins with a structural warm up that guides students to make structural and muscular connections to their unique physicality, focusing on the articulation of the spine, opening of joints, and movement of the body through space. The warm up is followed by specific phrases and variations that encourage self exploration and focus on dynamic sequencing. Master Classes are $40.00. All registrations and payments must be made PRIOR to the day of the master class. WALK INS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Classes will be limited to 15 dancers a class. Registration is on a first come first serve basis. To register please send your payment to reality dance studio with you dancers name and age.
