Hi Folks.
Some great shows at Nighttown this week.
On Wednesday (9/17), you don't want to miss the great international soul jazz masters, Dionne Farris
and Russell Gunn. Dionne is most well known for her breakout albums with Arrested Development.
Russell has been at the forefront of fusing jazz and hip-hop for years. Together, this is some of the
greatest soul jazz on the scene today. They are here from Atlanta.
On Friday (9/19), we have the outrageously fantastic pianist Chuchito Valdes. Chuchito's Cuban roots
are deep. He's the son of the renown Chucho Valdes, and led the famous group Irakere that was
started by his father. We always have a full house when Chuchito plays the club. His music is exciting
yet beautiful - the ultimate combination!!
Then on Saturday (9/20), NE Ohio's favorite Brazilian guitarist Moises Borges will serenade you. Enjoy
a great meal at Nighttown while you hear some of the all time great Brazilian bossa nova songs. It
doesn't get any better than that!
Hope you can join us this week at Nighttown.

Vocal & R&B Star Dionne Farris from Arrested Development Fame joins forces
w/Atlanta Trumpeter & High Note Recording Artist Russell Gunn for a special
night at Nighttown!
Dionne Farris
Dionne Farris came to the attention of the music world with her vocal contributions to Arrested
Development's breakthrough hit single, "Tennessee," plus other tracks on the group's 1992
debut.
Hers is the voice heard pleading to god to "Help Me Understand Your Plan" on Arrested
Development's chart topping 1992 GRAMMY award winning single, "Tennessee." Hers is the
voice assuredly letting you know, "I Know (What You're Doing and it's Not Going to Work This
Time)," on her ground breaking first top 10, GRAMMY nominated single from her critically
acclaimed debut, "Wild Seed - Wild Flower." Hers is the voice that calmed Tupak Shakur's soul
while in solitude, "She really got me through a lot of this time." Her voice is at the heart of black
music today. She is the voice of the 'Love Jones' generation, with the undying classic anthem
single, "Hopeless (as a Penny with a Hole in it)" This phoenix continues to rise, as her voice is
named one of 2011's Top 10 Soul CD's on "Signs of Life: by Creative Loafing Atlanta.
Russel Gunn
lf one were attempting to design a prototype for the quintessential contemporary musician,
trumpeter/fluegelhornist/composer Russell Gunn is the model. A certified member of the hip-hop
generation, Russell's early aspirations in the world of rap music took precedence over the
trumpet that he began playing in fourth grade. When he reached sixteen, his dedication to the
art of jazz took shape.
Gunn has developed his music from a wide variety of musical influences. In his case, Gunn
weaves together elements of Cuban, Brazilian, African,"Go Go" music, and Hip-Hop into an
adventurously progressive jazz style that pays tribute to its tradition while also extending the
form.
It was while performing at a club called Cicero's in St. Louis in 1993 that the great
saxophonist/composer and co-founder of the World Saxophone Quartet, Oliver Lake happened to
hear the young trumpeter, and immediately invited him to come to New York for a performance
at the Brooklyn Museum.
A fortuitous appearance at a 4am jam session at New York's famed Blue Note club, Gunn was
heard by Denis Jeter, an assistant to Wynton Marsalis at Lincoln Center, who recommended him
for the third trumpet chair in Marsalis' Blood on the Fields. Receiving rave notices for his work
with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Gunn began to earn recognition as one of the most
dynamic and exciting musicians of his generation. Continuing to freelance with Lake and various
other top jazz artists, Gunn began leading his own groups and in 1994 and issued his first
recording for the legendary Muse record label, "Young Gunn".
With a singular style that incorporates the influences of masters like Miles Davis, Lee Morgan, and
the underrated Booker Little, Gunn has continued to gain recognition for his own music through
touring.

Drum Wizard in unique Solo Show! As Featured with Missing Persons, Jeff Beck
and many more!
Rolling Stone Magazine: Zappa Drum Legend Terry Bozzio on Touring the
World's Largest Tuned Kit
Drum legend Terry Bozzio, known for his work with Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, UK and his critically
acclaimed solo ventures, celebrates the 50th anniversary of his first drum lesson with “An
Evening With Terry Bozzio” coast-to-coast North American tour! During the course of this tour,
Terry Bozzio will hit over 40 cities from San Diego to Jacksonville to Montreal to Vancouver to Los
Angeles and everywhere in between. This will be a night of solo drumming and include
compositions from throughout his career, as well as improvisation. It is by no means a clinic or a
workshop. Enjoy an intimate evening of Terry Bozzio and his monster sculpture of a drum kit
together for the first time in seated venues across North America.
“TERRY BOZZIO - An Evening of Solo Drum Music” is a unique, intense, dynamic, spiritualistic,
melodic, orchestral, atmospheric, and musical performance on the largest tuned drum &
percussion set in the world. Unless you have seen Terry, you have no idea what you are in for.
Bozzio is an enigmatic, evocative, and engaging musician whose instrument just happens to be
the drums. Terry Bozzio is able to accompany himself with bass note patterns and, at the same
time, melodically solo on top with highly developed coordination skills to express a complete
musical statement on the drum set alone. Drawing from jazz, classical, & ethnic percussion styles
from around the world, Terry Bozzio is “a storyteller,” able to weave a hypnotic spell over
audiences and enthrall them with an eclectic experience filled with contrast, variety, intimacy,
excitement, & passion.
Terry has had tremendous success with his last two Terry Bozzio solo drum performance tours in
Europe (2012 included his headline show at the Jazz Festival Frankfurt – the oldest jazz festival in
the world – and 2013 which included sold out performances in Sweden, Germany, Eastern
Europe, and France). Please note that this is not a bombastic 2 hour drum solo. This is MUSIC on
drums, “an evening with Terry Bozzio.” In most of Bozzio’s works, he accompanies himself with
bass lines while soloing over it melodically on the tuned toms. There is space, classical forms &
structures, ambient electronic loops, and atmospheric percussion effects, as well as some
exciting & fiery drumming that brings audiences to their feet!
In other news, over the last four decades, drummer Terry Bozzio has built an extraordinary
legacy based on his unique approach to rhythm and the diverse and acclaimed recordings to
which he's contributed. On April 18, 2014 he'll go beyond genres into new mediums with the
release of an art collection titled [RHYTHM] + [SKETCH]. Available exclusive at
www.terrybozzioart.com, the collection is a fusion of artwork crafted over the last three decades
mixed with new abstract visuals made from capturing rhythm.
Don't miss this phenomenal show at Nighttown on Monday September 22nd.
