Synres is a new, growing company in the Coating Resins Industry, and was until 2015 part of DSM Resins. The Production
location in Hoek van Holland produces a full range of solvent-borne alkyd, acrylic, thixotropic resins and additives. The
Synres R&D and Paint Application laboratory, located in Zwolle, is an enabler for Synres to grow the business, support
customers and work on market-driven innovations. To facilitate further growth, Synres has a vacancy for an experienced
Industry Specialist. In close co-operation with the Sales Account Managers, the Industry Specialist has a key role to
promote the Synres product range in the market. Promoting the range in the market, the Industry Specialist utilizes a broad
base of technical skills and knowledge to achieve the growth targets.
FOR THE R&D AND PAINT APPLICATION LABORATORY WE ARE LOOKING FOR A

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Realize double digit sales growth in the relevant sales area, working from the overall marketing and sales plan of Synres
REPORTS TO: R&D Director
LOCATION: Mix of home-based, Hoek van Holland, Zwolle, on the road at customer sites (primarily in Europe)
JOB PURPOSE:
To develop and expand the Synres business, mainly in Europe, by identifying opportunities for new and existing products
and providing technical and promotional support to meet company sales targets.

Job holder must have detailed knowledge of all the products and product families of Synres.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) Responsibilities:
• Take responsibility for own SHE performance, and act according to the Synres SHE policy and Application SHE rules
as laid down in the manuals.
• Report and communicate all SHE related matters.
• Participate in SHE training.
2.Jobholder is a recognized (by the Industry and our organization) technical expert in the Coatings market. He/she is
aware of the on-going competitive activity in designated segments by having regular customer contact. He/she will
support Synres sales personnel in technical matters to ensure that the groups product and research portfolio reflects
existing and future needs.
3. Support growth in sales of Synres products by solving immediate problems and identifying new applications either by
direct customer visits, trade exhibitions, or writing and presenting technical papers.
4. Participate in the planning, control and execution of Application laboratory projects designed to meet specific
customer or market needs identified by job holder which will result in increased sales of existing products.

5. Identify opportunities for new products and technologies for Synres by working with identified key accounts and make
recommendations to assist in the selection and prioritizing of development projects.
6. Contribute in the coordination of market and laboratory activities for specific new product and formulation
developments for designated segments to ensure that the new product reaches the market in the agreed time window.
7. Train, motivate, update and help the Sales personnel in the use of all Synres products so that they approach customers
with confidence and achieve sales target. Contribute to the development of the annual budget in value and profit terms.
8. Contribute to optimize margins of the products and ensure regular monitoring of results obtained.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
Success in the Coatings market depends on the technical performance of the product and the Industry Specialist must have
extensive experience and an in-depth knowledge of the various segments of the market. Being able to provide rapid responses
as well as the ability to handle complex technical matters, is essential. The job holder must travel widely, show the interpersonal
skills necessary to work closely with customers - both internal and external - and have a proficiency in foreign languages. Close
cooperation with key customers at a senior level is a vital part of the Synres strategy. On average the Industry Specialist spends
50% of the time in the market where the job holder works independently. Most of the job holder’s time is spent in European
countries but increasingly globally as Synres’ commercial reach expands. When travelling, the job holder is expected to have
sufficient understanding of the Synres product range to provide technical advice in other application sectors.
QA RESPONSIBILITIES:
Job holder is required to demonstrate personal responsibility to meet quality standards. Job holder is leading and
supporting Synres’s Lean-based transformation process toward a continuous improving organization.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to ask the right questions to identify the needs of internal and external customers. Ability to give lectures at
international events like customer meetings, community meetings or related events. Brings or generates a relevant
network of contacts in the Industry.
EXPERIENCE:
5-10 years of experience in paint formulation and application.
COMPETENCES:
• Excellent communicative skills
• Ability to adapt behavior to different cultures and social levels(high sensitivity)
• Confident in changing setting and unexpected situations
• Likes to travel
• Takes initiative
• Customer focus
• Likes to talk, but is even better in listening to customer needs
KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION:
•Master University level in chemistry, chemical technology or related science. Alternatively equal performance level
based on relevant experience.
• Fluent in at least two European languages -- English, German and/ or a Latin language.
• Extensive knowledge of paint formulating
• Extensive knowledge of raw materials for the paint industry
