Our third annual “No Place Like Home” 5K run was held on November 22, 2015, and this year brought in more
money for CASA than ever before! Thanks to the support and love shown by the runners, volunteers, sponsors,
and vendors, the amount raised this year was more than $5,000. These funds directly help seniors and homebound
clients in Madison County. In 2015, we welcomed nine new sponsors and had a new location thanks to Dynetics.
The volunteer race committee is looking forward to 2016’s “No Place Like Home” 5K. We look forward to even
more runners and lots of fun!

Ramp Blitz 2015 - Record Breaking Year
With a goal set of building 25 ramps in a single month, CASA volunteers took on the
challenge with both hands. These individuals were determined to meet the needs of
our aging and homebound in an amazing way! This effort did not happen over night.
Between the tireless efforts of CASA staff and our volunteers, the goal was not only
met, but exceeded with 28 wheelchair ramps being completed by the end of the
month. What a wonderful gift we were able to give so many families, as our clients
were able to celebrate a more independent and safe life during the holidays! We are not only serving our clients, but those caring for them too. We help families
when they are unable to get to medical appointments, we help families when they
are worried about potential fall risks in the homes, and we help families stay warmer in the winter months. The
cost for the 2015 December Ramp Blitz reached close to $20,000 in materials alone for the much needed wheelchair ramps, but this does not account for the many other services provided during the month of December. Relying 100% on the generosity of local contributions and grants can create moments of concern for our Executive
Director, Ann Anderson. “Along with the excitement of building so many ramps,
comes the question of how can we afford to help all of these people?” Ms. Anderson mentioned that many do not know the importance of our services until
it effects them or their families, but she would like to get the message out. She
said, “We are all getting older or are one diagnosis away from potentially needing
these services, and I know I want CASA around when that happens.” You can join
our efforts in providing services by giving a financial contribution either by visiting
the website at www.casamadisoncty.org or mailing your gift to CASA of Madison
County, 701 Andrew Jackson Way, Huntsville, 35801.

Chili’s Benefit Night
A huge
thank you to
Chili’s for the
opportunity to host a benefit
night on November 20, 2015!
We had a great time getting
to see old friends and making
new ones. We partnered with Nexus Energy Center
to get the word out and bring people in the door. The
funds raised that night was almost $500 which will be
used for both organizations’ efforts to provide energy
saving services to seniors’ homes in Madison County.
The added benefit from this event was the chance to
introduce CASA to those who had never heard of us
before that night. We are already working on the next
Benefit Night for 2016. Hope you can join us, but if not
at least tell your friends!
TEMP$ 2015
Volunteers spent more than
1,000 hours in the mist and
rain to prepare homes for
the cold winter months.
Trinity United Methodist
Church once again hosted
our base of operations,
making the process for
bagging materials and
distribution go very smoothly. In our 32nd year of TEMP$
(Taking Energy Measures Personally = $avings), 130
homes were winterized by 40 teams of volunteers.
In CASA’s continued efforts to find ways for our clients
to receive more permanent solutions for energy efficiency
and winterization, CASA screened and referred close to
30 clients previously served through the TEMP$ program
to the Huntsville Utilities Extreme Energy Makeover
program. To date, approximately 11 have been approved
to receive items like insulation, new doors and windows,
water heaters, and even some will be receiving energy
efficient appliances. CASA has also continued to work
with Nexus Energy
Center through the
Comfort Project. So
far, 12 clients have had
upgrades to their homes
decreasing utility bills
by $100 - $125 per
month!

Wheelchair Ramp Needs - If you have been on some CASA
ramp builds and are interested in being involved in other
ways, there are options! Built ramps are needing repairs so
that a rebuild can be avoided. Repairs take between two and
three people with previous experience in building CASA
ramps. We could use up to five more volunteers to sketch
ramps. The warehouse could use three more volunteers to
lead groups during the month. Contact Johnie if interested,
[email protected].
Transportation Volunteers should be available during
the week to help seniors get to medical appointments.
