Silpure or silver that’s worth
its weight in gold
Silpure is an antibacterial finish that’s been
specially developed for textile applications.
As well as linen, sheets and pillowcases,
clothing, socks and underwear, Silpure is of
course also eminently suitable as a protec-

tive finish for mattress ticking.
Finishing or treatment which is
applicable to all DesleeClama
mattress ticking or can be used
with a large portion of the range.
Saving money
An inexpensive product which,
despite its modest price, is of a
guaranteed high quality and satisfies effectiveness requirements, in
this case in terms of its antibacterial
properties.
Ecological product
The raw materials used are guaranteed organic, and no substances
have been used during the production process which might be harmful
to the environment.
Silpure is a nanotechnology application in which real silver particles are processed by micro-encapsulation in the fibre, resulting
in an outstanding general antibacterial effect. This finish is permanent and resistant, even when the fabric in which the yarns are
used is washed time after time.
Because use is only made of 100% pure, genuine silver for this
finish, it can also be described as a natural finish, and hence one
which is ecologically acceptable.
In some cultures, incidentally, considerable importance is
attached to the positive general influence of silver on the human
body. However, this is not always easy to prove scientifically. Even
so, silver has proved of value in conventional medicine, and the
independent scientific tests conducted when developing Silpure
– across a broad spectrum of bacteria, but in particular to check
on efficiency of protection against the hospital bug, MRSA – had
exclusively positive results. As an antibacterial protection, Silpure
is therefore a proper, significantly cheaper alternative to comparable finishes with the same properties.
Applying an antibacterial finish to mattress ticking, apart from its
obvious health benefits, also prevents the unpleasant odours,
discoloration, stains and premature wear caused by bacterial
infestation, and hence also helps aesthetically.
Added value
> Antibacterial
A warm, moist biotope such as the sleeping environment is sheer paradise for bacteria, being precisely what they need in order to thrive and multiply. Silpure ensures that
neither the body’s bacteria nor environmental bacteria can establish themselves in the
mattress ticking.
> Health
It has to be said that bacteria are formidable creatures. Although these living organisms
can only be seen through a microscope, they can cause an enormous amount of
harm – the hospital germ MRSA and salmonella being just two examples. In industrialised countries, there has been a huge increase in allergies caused by micro-organisms, which can also cause considerable health problems. Dangerous bacteria also
have the objectionable habit of developing resistance to numerous forms of protection.
With Silpure, this possibility is virtually ruled out.
> Bacteria
Silpure is active against a very broad spectrum of bacteria. Silver-based
anti¬bacterial treatments are active against bacterial cells in three ways: through
the reaction of thiol groups against proteins and enzymes, through action at DNA
and RNA level and by altering the cell’s plasma membrane. Precisely because
they are confronted in three ways, it is virtually impossible for the bacteria to
develop resistance to Silpure. This makes it a perfect solution in hospital or care
settings such as old people’s homes and crèches.
> Eco-friendly
As silver is a 100% natural product, its use in mattress ticking represents an ecofriendly solution in the fight against bacteria.
> Aesthetic
Although bacteria themselves are tiny creatures, invisible to the naked eye, bacterial
invasions certainly do leave their traces. If conditions are present in which bacteria can
live without difficulty – in other words a warm, damp biotope – they are unstoppable.
They quickly make their presence felt, with unpleasant odours, discoloration, staining,
wear and so on. These aesthetic side-effects are also completely prevented with an
antibac¬terial treatment such as Silpure.

years ago, the quest began to deploy silver’s antibacterial power in
medicines, with considerable success. The use of silver for textile
applications has only been made possible by recent nanotechnology.
Previously, its use was too expensive, the results were too inconsistent, and it was also physically difficult to use. However, now that
these obstacles have all been removed, thanks to silver the road to
an antibacterial future lies clear.
