MARRIAG E OF FIGA RO LIVING TAYLORSTON TON GYISDEALNLZEA GISELLE FLAMENC O FIRE BRIAN CU LBERTSON 2015-2016 SEAS ON BROCH WONDEARLICE IN LAND CHINE CIRCUSSE URE MISSION STATEMENT O ur mission at Dear Friends, The Madison I am thrilled to announce our offerings for the fifth season here at The Madison Theatre at Molloy College. It’s hard to believe that it has been five years since we opened our doors with an ‘Evening of Entertainment’ featuring Martin Short. During the past four theatre seasons, we have been privileged to have had some of the country’s top entertainment performing on our stage. We continue to develop, refine, and grow our programming, partnerships, and community relationships in order to better serve our patrons on Long Island, throughout the greater tri-state area and the country. With over 25,000 patrons attending our captivating productions this past season, we continue to strive for excellence in the programming we bring to The Madison Theatre stage. Our diverse range of offerings has established The Madison Theatre as a progressive innovator for arts entertainment and education on Long Island. We have created wonderful flourishing partnerships within the arts community that have helped bring worldclass talent to our audiences. Our educational partnership with CAP21 (Collaborative Arts Project) in Manhattan has helped to establish a nationally renowned musical theater degree program here at Molloy College. Our summer programs continue to excel in bringing outstanding art education to our community’s young artists. All this would not have been possible without the vision of Molloy College President Dr. Drew Bogner, the support of the leadership of the College, our generous corporate and individual sponsors, and, of course, you, our loyal patrons. We will continue to work toward innovation with new exciting ideas, programs, partnerships, and entertainment. Thank you for continuing to make The Madison Theatre your entertainment destination. Theatre is to be a versatile, first-class facility that offers a diverse range of worldclass entertainment for the South Shore and greater Long Island region. Situated only 30 minutes from Manhattan, we strive to be an incubator for creative development for the artistic community, while educating and inspiring young performers, writers, and technicians for careers within the entertainment industry. We share in the College’s belief that artistic expression and appreciation is an important part of personal development. 2 Angelo Fraboni Artistic Director The Madison Theatre at Molloy College TABLE OF CONTENTS 10th Annual Long Island Comedy Festival..................................................................... 4 The Melody Lingers On: Songs of Irving Berlin.............................................................. 4 Inbeon Con...................................................................................................................... 5 Long Beach International Film Festival: Taste on the Beach......................................... 5 Two Gents and a Lady..................................................................................................... 6 Long Beach International Film Festival.......................................................................... 6 The Marriage of Figaro.................................................................................................... 7 Battle of the Sexes........................................................................................................... 7 Brian Culbertson.............................................................................................................. 8 Flamenco Fire.................................................................................................................. 9 Halloween Fun Festival................................................................................................. 10 Tom Petty 65th Birthday Bash featuring Jeff Slate...................................................... 11 National Republic of China in Peking Dreams.............................................................. 12 Evening of Entertainment: Molloy Annual Gala 2015.................................................. 13 RAEL: The Music of Genesis........................................................................................... 14 Jerry Herman on Broadway........................................................................................... 14 Bollywood in The Spirit of India.................................................................................... 15 David Benoit with special guest Jane Monheit ............................................................ 16 Madison Theatre Christmas Celebration: A Ziegfeld Holiday...................................... 17 Swingtime Big Band: Sinatra at the Sands................................................................... 17 Alice in Wonderland...................................................................................................... 18 The History of American Rock and Roll......................................................................... 19 Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off: Kay Swift’s Romance with George Gershwin............. 19 Swingtime Big Band: In the Mood for Love.................................................................. 20 Peter Rabbit™ Tales........................................................................................................ 20 Livingston Taylor, Tom Chapin & The Jammin’ Divas.................................................. 21 Movie Industry’s Biggest Night: Live on Stage............................................................ 22 Giselle featuring The Moscow Ballet............................................................................ 23 Making Music Live......................................................................................................... 24 The 5th Annual NY Short Film Concert......................................................................... 25 Clifford the Big Red Dog Live........................................................................................ 26 Broadway’s British Invasion.......................................................................................... 27 Eric Marienthal and Chuck Loeb................................................................................... 28 The South Shore Symphony.......................................................................................... 29 The Nutcracker.............................................................................................................. 30 The Children’s Orchestra Society.................................................................................. 30 Madison Theatre Event Calendar.................................................................................. 32 Madison Theatre Memberships and Discounts............................................................ 34 3 SUMMER 2015 0th 1 e Th ual n n A JULY 18 AT 8PM The 10th Annual Long Island comedy festival, the largest comedy festival of its kind, is coming to The Madison Theatre! Its ingenious fusion of baroque stylings with the jazz idiom was an instant classic and remained in the Billboard Top 40 for ten years. The great jazz flutist Hubert Laws collaborates with Long Island’s favorite pianist, Jeffrey Biegel, in Steve Barta’s masterful symphonic arrangement: Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio, and in Laws’ skillful reworking of the last movement of Rachmaninoff’s beloved Piano Concerto N. 2. The concert begins with the ever-popular Grand Canyon Suite by Ferde Grofé. Bolling/Barta – Symphonic Arrangement: Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio Hubert Laws, flute Jeffrey Biegel, piano Evan Biegel, drums Rachmaninoff, arr. Hubert Laws – Finale from Concerto n. 2 op. 18 in C minor for Flute, Piano and Orchestra Hubert Laws, flute Jeffrey Biegel, piano THE MUSIC OF HECTOR BERLIOZ WITH CONDUCTOR AND MUSIC DIRECTOR: SCOTT JACKSON WILEY FEBRUARY 27 AT 8PM The poems of Théophile Gautier serve as the text for Les Nuits d’été of Hector Berlioz. Deeply immersed in the great literary writings of his time, Berlioz was often inspired by literature in his compositions. In the Symphonie Fantastique Berlioz portrays the longings of a lover and terrifying hallucinations in what is arguably the greatest of all nineteenth century tone poems. The virtuoso demands of the Symphonie Fantastique were a central force in the creation of the modern symphonic orchestra. THE FOUR SEASONS AND MORE: A VIVALDI EXTRAVAGANZA APRIL 2 AT 8PM Virtuoso soloists from the South Shore Symphony Scott Jackson Wiley, Conductor and Continuo The South Shore Symphony delves into the Baroque period with the music of one of the most popular composers of all time: Antonio Vivaldi. At the top of the charts is his Four Seasons, a collection of four concertos for violin and string orchestra that vividly depict each of the seasons of the year. Violinist Stephan Tieszen brings his mastery of baroque style and period technique to the orchestra and to our audience. The performance will be accompanied with lighting effects, the paintings of Breugel and readings of the sonnets that the composer illustrates in his music. Additionally, virtuoso soloists from the South Shore Symphony will perform selections from Vivaldi’s wonderful concertos for wind instruments.
