Welcome to our 2013 Home & Cottage Tour. The committee has worked diligently to provide a memorable experience.
Lake Carmi is in the heart of the Town of Franklin and a very important part of the town life and activities. We have nearly 300 cottages
around the 7.5 miles of lakeshore, offering a wide selection of cottage and
camp styles. Our lake is about 3.5 miles long and one mile wide. It is the
fourth largest lake within the State of Vermont.
The homes and cottages on this tour are both summer and year
around residences. Feel free to ask questions and seek out the history of the
home, many of these go back to the first half of the 20th century, but they
don’t look it now. One even goes back to the 19th century. Your hosts are
very proud of their homes, enjoy their labors.
The map on the back provides directions to each stop, most are at
the north end of the lake and easy to reach. You can even walk to most of
them, once you are parked. Each home has a local restaurant or bakery
providing some special treats to all visitors. Tour stops are numbered 1
through 8. You can start at any point on the tour, but we do ask that you
please visit each tour stop only once.
A Quick Summary of Tour Stops
1. Bryant Reynolds little cottage on the east side of the North Beach was
once a boat house that was about to crumble into the lake. His renovations
have made this “boat house” very special. 2526 Lake Road, Evelyne’s Desserts & Special Occasions of St. Albans presenting.
2. Andre & Anne Laroche bought this beautiful large home last year and
have been working hard on the restoration and renovations. This log home
sits on a great site with the best of views (as any home has at our lake). 22
Vic’s Crossing Road, As the Crow Flies of St. Albans presenting.
3. The Giroux Family purchased this large cottage, from the 1930’s, last
year and have been working hard on the restoration. It is just like it was in
the 1930’s with a few modern adaptations. 150 Vic’s Crossing Road, Phoenix
House Restaurant & Bakery presenting.
4. David & Diane Larose have been working for years, on this multigenerational camp making it a beautiful home at the lake. Their large lot is
groomed, with extensive plantings and a beautiful large vegetable garden.
This has been built by generations of the family. 244 Vic’s Crossing Road,
Jeff’s Seafood of St. Albans presenting.
5. Bokan/Senior Cottage, this family cottage is owned by Dan & Sherry
Bokan & Gillian Senior. The cottage is on Shore Road, in a very quiet area,
and beautifully appointed. They recently updated the cottage and made a
large loft upstairs. 195 Shore Road, Wood Meadow Market, an organic food
market in Enosburg Falls presenting.
6. Jim & Margi Cameron purchased this little lot and went to work to make
it their special little cottage. They have been successful, it is a two story traditional camp, right on the water. It includes an alternative septic system and
several innovations in construction. 74 Dewing Shore Road, Cosmic Bakery of
St. Albans presenting.
7. Bruce and Debbie Bushey had admired this cottage from afar, when it
became available, they quickly moved across the lake. They have modernized
the cottage, including a foundation, new enclosed porch, renovated bath and
more. 234 Hammond Shore Road, Due North Vineyard & Winery of Franklin
presenting.
8. Dick & Polly Gadbois’ large Federal style home was built in the 1850’s
and has been totally renovated, bringing it up to date. It is brick construction, including a brick interior wall in the kitchen. The northern section,
where the garage is now, originally contained a six hole outhouse. Much of
the house is original, including most flooring. Modern additions have been
added over the years, including a garage and modern kitchen. Dick and Polly
are avid collectors of Franklin memorabilia, they have exhaustive collections
of Franklin postcards, Vermont milk bottles and more. 3764 State Park Road,
