The Wonewok Experience
The History of Wonewok
The modern history of Wonewok begins in the 1870s, when its virgin white pine forest was logged. But time was not the only
attraction. Beautiful scenery, lakes and plentiful fish and game made the Park Rapids area a favorite with tourists. By the
1920s, the area had become so popular that an enterprising land development company acquired 200 acres of what is now
Wonewok Conference Center. Later that decade, a Chicago industrialist named Fred A. Nachman became so enamored of the
area’s natural beauty that he purchased the property for a private retreat. As he built his stately lodge, he was unsparing in his
attention to detail. Much of his legacy remains to the present day.
3M acquired the property in 1955. Under
3M’s stewardship, Wonewok’s land and
lakes have been carefully preserved. The
wildlife is supported through preservation
programs and habitat conservation.
For more than 50 years, Wonewok has
been an integral part of 3M’s history and
tradition, providing world class quality and
service to 3M customers and employees
from all corners of the world.
Visiting Wonewok and experiencing
its very special “magic” will create
unforgettable memories and lasting
business connections.

Team Building Opportunities
Wonewok offers a wide range of options to promote team interaction.
Here are just a few highlights...
Group Cooking Programs
Group Cooking Programs presented by our in-house culinary team have become one of our most popular events,
offering an informal and fun way to “break the ice” and allow people from differing backgrounds and interests to
come together in the spirit of collaboration and friendship.
A complete series of these group cooking programs is available, ranging from “Around the World” to a “Minnesota
North Woods Experience,” each with a unique menu featuring organic ingredients.
Each cooking “experience” is carefully structured and clearly explained to enable guests to learn new techniques
and stretch their culinary boundaries in a light-hearted and communal way.
Teams are selected and each team is asked to prepare courses for the group’s dinner that evening with hands-on
direction from our culinary team. This provides a great opportunity for interaction and melding of diverse skills and
talents. At the end of the preparation time, the teams come together for a reception and to enjoy the “fruits of their
labors.”
Trap Shooting
Our trap range offers guests the opportunity to test their skills in a number of different competitions, sure to
challenge even the most accomplished shooters. For those new to the sport, our experienced staff will provide
demonstration and instruction on safety, use of the equipment and shooting techniques. All equipment and ear
protection is provided by Wonewok.
Team Building Activities
Groups may also choose to customize their own team building activities. Wonewok staff will be delighted to assist in
planning and facilitating these events, or to recommend professional event management suppliers.
