VII Balkan and Black Sea Conference Days of Clusters 2016:
Creating Cluster-Based Economic Development for a Sustainable Region
22 - 24 September 2016, in Ohrid, Macedonia
The BBS Conference “Days of Clusters” is the leading cluster event in the SEE, which had been held in
Nis-Serbia 2010 – 2012; Sofia- Bulgaria 2013, Tekirdag-Turkey 2014 and Brasov-Romania 2015.
The Cluster House Nis -Serbia is a founder and a co-organizer of the conference. The National Center for
Development of Innovation and Entrepreneurial Learning NCDIEL Skopje-Macedonia is a host of this
year’s conference. Conference co-organizers are the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Ss. Cyril and
Methodius University Skopje and the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Macedonia.
The conference DofC 2016 is under the patronage of the cabinet of the President of the Republic of
Macedonia H.E. Prof. Dr. Gjorgji Ivanov, The Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Prof. Dr. Taki
Fiti, President and the Governance of the Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, Macedonia.
The key supporting institutions of this year’s conference are the Global TCI Network Barcelona www.tcinetwork.org and ECCP www.clustercollaboration.eu.
Mission of the “DAYS OF CLUSTER 2016” is to strengthen cross cluster collaboration between countries
in the BBS region with aim to maximize the cluster concept capitalization in their economies.
The conference will contribute to:
 Socially balanced economic development and employment creation in the BBS region.
 Enabling business environment for SME development based on collaboration between public sector,
academia, financial organizations, media and business community.
 Establishment of the public-private dialogue for advocating for the needs of SMEs.
 Exchange of knowledge and experiences in the cluster based economic development in developed
countries, countries in transition and developing countries.
 Transnational cross clusters networking.
 Efficient approach to EU and other development funds.

During the DofC 2016 conference presence of over 250 participants from 25 countries is expected. It is
planned to have array of brokerage events B2B, B2C, C2C, meetings with businessmen and other events
related to the development of business opportunities in the country and the region and bilateral
agreements will be signed between various clusters of neighboring states.
There are two main sections planned for:

cluster managers/practitioners and representatives of the companies and

academic section with focus on academics and researchers
Clusters and their members from the Balkan and the Black Sea region, as drivers for economic
development, will be able to present their success stories and good practices. Special focus this year
will be devoted to wine, tourism and textile. Wine Cluster Learning Trip will be organized during the
third conference day.
Academics and researchers will be able to publish their scientific papers which will be reviewed by
Scientific Committee members from over 15 countries.
