Submit completed entry form and design sketch by December 14, 2014.
A final sketch (if changed from application) must be submitted to the lead judge at
the orientation on January 22.
Artists must attend the orientation on January 22 at 7:30 pm (dinner will be provided).
A lottery draw at the orientation will determine your sculpture location in the carving area.
Carvers must supply their own tools and equipment. Access will be given to one 120V 15-amp outlet
(North American Standard) . Electric chains saws may be requested by international competitors on the
application form. Carvers may use only one electrical tool at a time.
Each competitor must follow all Ice on Whyte Festival participation guidelines and NCC rules as
administered by the judges.
Safety First! In order to ensure the safety of all participants, health and safety measures are applicable.
No helpers are allowed in the carving area unless approved by a judge.
All allocated blocks of ice must be used and carved on all sides.
Snow made from your original allotment of ice may be used, no artificial props, decoration or colouring of
ice is allowed.
No sponsor logos or material may be displayed in the carving area or on the sculptures except sponsor
identification on clothing.
Organizers reserve the right to disqualify carvers who produce sculptures that are considered to be in poor
taste or commercial in character.
Artists must remove all tools, cardboard, extra ice and debris from their allocated carving area at the end
of every competition day and ensure that the carving is ready for judging at the end of the competition.
The Festival’s site staff will be available to assist with cardboard, ice and debris removal.
Competition organizers are not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen tools and equipment.
The captain of your team may be asked to serve as a judge of the Novice Category. If selected, the captain
agrees to accept and fulfill that responsibility. A short training session will be provided at the orientation.
Safety First
In order to ensure the safety of all participants, health and safety measures are applicable for this event.
Artists must wear personal protective equipment. Safety boots, pants or chaps with ballistic nylon inserts,
chainsaw gloves, hearing protection, protective eyewear and any other relevant health and safety equipment
are strongly recommended.
The judges are aware of the importance of health and
safety at this event and, should a lack of personal
protective equipment or dangerous work methods be
noted, they will issue warnings which may result in point
reduction or disqualification.
Carving Schedule
The final carving schedule will be provided in the artist information package. Organizers and judges reserve
