A special thanks goes out to Steve Reynolds and the Warren County FOP for
hosting the event. Thank you to Donna Conn, Debbie Hammiel, Jessica Johnson, Tom and Mel Diegel, Cindy Conn, the band, volunteers who cooked,
cleaned up, and tended the bar. Paul Bernard made a video of the night for
Adela and we also have pictures and texts.
Thanks again, the event was a huge success!
Update on Adela:
Adela’s doing great and is scheduled to be released from the hospital
Wednesday, September 30th. She is still under going major physical therapy,
but will finally get some normalcy back in her life. She’s currently able to stand
up, take a few steps, turn around and sit down in a wheel chair by herself. It’s
slow going, but with each day she will improve.

MDC—REFRESH CURRENT INCIDENT
We still hear units occasionally ask the dispatcher to "send me my call, I had to log back on".
The dispatcher has no way to manually send a call to an MDC. This is automatically done by CAD
when a unit is assigned to a call.
By hitting the "REFRESH CURRENT INCIDENT" button at the bottom of the "VIEW DISPATCH"
form, you can pull-up the active incident that you are currently assigned, even if you don't see it on
your MDC because you had to restart your computer after loosing connectivity, or after just signing
on, etc.
The screen shot below displays an incident in CAD where the screen is not displaying the call information. Before asking Dispatch to resend the call take a look in the upper left hand corner and bottom right hand corner. If there is a status in the upper left and an incident number in the bottom right
than click the “REFRESH CURRENT INCIDENT” button and it will refresh the screen. See the 2nd
screenshot.

Aerial Photography
Volume 4, Issue 9
AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY
After months of planning and testing, Telecom can finally announce that aerial photography is being
utilized on all of the ATM consoles. Aerial photography gives dispatchers the ability to see the aerial
of a dispatch location which gives a whole new perspective. Images are taken at 12 inch resolution
which means that when viewed at 100%, each pixel equates to 12 square inches on the
ground. 100% view in ATM is about .2 miles zoom level.
The current set of aerial photography was taken in late 2007. The County is hoping to have a new
set taken sometime in November. If so, the new set will be available in March of 2010. Thereafter,
the County will probably have the county flown every two years, but that is all dependant on future
circumstances.
Hopefully, everyone will appreciate and utilize the photos. Just remember that they are not live pictures (that is tentatively set for 2020) so don’t be surprised if you don’t see the vehicle that is being
pursued, but you can see where they might be going.

CALIBRATING THE MDC TOUCHSCREEN
Have you noticed that the touch screen on the MDC is not as accurate as you would like? There is
a way to re-calibrate the screen to improve the accuracy of the touch. Follow the instructions below
to calibrate the screen.
Step 1—In the bottom right corner of the screen right click on
the calibration icon.
Step 2—Click on Calibration
Step 3—Touch (with the stylus pen or
a finger) the red plus sign, there will be
a series of 9 plus signs. As each plus
sign is touched, it will move to a different location on the screen. To cancel
hit the Esc key or click the Enter key
when complete.

Connectivity Issues
Volume 4, Issue 9
MDC CONNECTIVITY ISSUES
There are a few ways to troubleshoot connectivity issues that all users can do prior to calling the
help desk: toggling the wireless on/off, VZAccess Manager, Verizon Network Optimizer, and Reset
Connections.
Connection Status
Sentinel —Located in the bottom right of the desktop.
Red = no connection, Yellow = a weak connection,
Green = connected
The sentinel on the left is the wireless card, the sentinel on the right is wireless.
If the sentinel buttons are not displaying, open “Total
Roam Management” located on the desktop. The sentinels should appear once the program is opened.
Sentinels
Toggling the Wireless On/Off
Problem: Wireless should always be off when traveling around the county. Connectivity issues arise
because the wireless and the Wi-Fi card fight for a
signal. As soon as a wireless connection is found
then it takes over. When the wireless signal is lost
the Wi-Fi card takes over. As the signals are lost
and found connectivity issues arise. If the home
office has wireless connections be sure to turn the
wireless off before going on the road.
Solution: Go to the bottom right side of the desktop and right click on the wireless icon (looks like
an antenna, see image to the left). The choices will
be wireless on or wireless off.
VZAccess Manager—Wi-Fi Card
Problem: Not able to receive a connection.
Solution: Open VZAccess Manager. Click on Options. Choose Power Off WWAN Device. Wait 30
seconds and then click Power On WWAN Device.

Connectivity Issues
Verizon Network Optimizer
Problem: The sentinel is green
but still having network problems.
Verification: Double click the
Verizon Network Optimizer from
the desktop. A window opens
that continues to scroll showing
the reply status. Check for a
time associated with the reply. If
a time is not displayed your card
is not communicating.
Reset Connections
Problem: When all else fails and a connection
cannot be established.
Solution: Go to the Start menu in the bottom left
hand of the desktop. Click Reset Connections
from the start menu. Go through the prompts and
the connection should be restored.
If a connection cannot be established after these troubleshooting tips try rebooting the computer. If
a connection cannot be established after the re-boot contact Data systems, 695-4357 (HELP), option 4.

CAD Unit Change
Volume 4, Issue 9
CAD U NI T CHANGE F EAT URE— N EW
Purpose: This feature was made available for those units that needed the ability to switch between
two different CAD call signs from the same vehicle.
Example 1: Chief-81 (C81) and EMS-81 (EM81) are sharing a vehicle. Chief-81 drives the vehicle
during the day and EMS-81 uses the vehicle at night.
Example 2: Mason Fire uses the same vehicle as Medic-51 (M51) and Squad-51 (S51) depending
on staffing. They need to be able to switch from one call sign to the other at shift change.
Units can now do this using a “package” that was designed by the Telecom Mobile Data Team. The
unit.pkg needs to be built in advance before you can use this feature. To request this feature, send
a help ticket to [email protected] stating which units you would like a package built.
Step 1: Go to the Start Menu, Programs, CAD Unit Change and choose the unit from the list (there
will be a list if multiple units are available to choose) to activate.
8
S a f e t yn e t
CAD Unit Change
Step 2: A message box will appear once
the unit selection has been made. Accept the change by selecting Yes or reject the change by selecting No.
Step 3: A second message box will appear confirming that the changes have
been completed. The message box will
request that Frontline is ReLaunched.
Step 4: When the “Frontline User Login” box displays, type in the logon information for the unit you
have switched to.
From this point, everything should be the same with loading VisionTEK Frontline Messaging. Select the CAD tab at the top of the window. The login screen should appear with information already
populated. All you should need to do is to confirm that everything is correct in the Unit ID, Vehicle
ID, Agency ID and Area fields and press the enter key or press the Send bar at the bottom of the
screen to send the information to CAD. Remember, you must have connectivity to send data to
CAD.
A couple cautions:
Users cannot change units while on an incident. CAD would not know the new unit was on the incident and the unit would have to be assigned to the incident and the times from both units would not
match up.
Users should not change to units that are already signed on as an MDC unit. If you do so, you
would take over the other MDC’s mCAD session with no indication to the other unit that you did so.
CAD information will just start populating on your MDC instead of the other MDC.

Second alarms have gone into effect for Warren County. The unit making an additional alarm request must specify the alarm number.
The ability to upgrade to additional alarms only applies to those agencies who have turned in data
and have been configured for additional alarms in CAD. All other agencies have been advised that
they cannot request additional alarms until it has been provided and configured in CAD. To request
additional alarms contact Paul Bernard CAD/RMS 695-4357, option 3.

The Community Corrections Division of Adult Probation (4Y units) have obtained one MDC for their
units to use. They also have mounts and docks for 4 of their 5 cars. They plan to start utilizing the

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
Fire Prevention Week, October 4th through the 10th 2009, is focusing on burn awareness and prevention, as well as keeping homes safe from the leading causes of home fires.
Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire, the 1871 conflagration that killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures
and burned more than 2,000 acres. The fire began on October 8, but continued into and did most of
its damage on October 9, 1871.
The City of Mason Fire Department is pleased to invite residents to its open house to kick off Fire
Prevention Week. Firefighters will welcome guests and conduct demonstrations with the fire equipment and hand-on activities such as fire extinguisher training. Mason’s Fire Station 52, 5500 Cedar
Village Dr, Open House from 12 until 4pm
Deerfield Fire Rescue joins fire departments and safety educators across the country to bring important safety messages to their communities, showing them simple ways they can “Stay Fire Smart!
Don’t Get Burned.” The fun starts on Sunday at the Deerfield Towne Center on Mason-Montgomery
Road, and continues all week with fire station tours, school visits, home safety inspections and a
smoke detector blitz in neighborhoods. Don’t Miss a Minute of the Kick-Off from 12 Noon – 4 p.m. at
