It is with great sadness that I inform you that one of our LACCEA family Board members, David Jimenez, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2014. David is survived by his wife, children, friends, and his LACCEA Family. David was a beloved father, friend and leader. David worked as a Deputy Probation Officer II out of the East Los Angeles area office. While serving in the Probation Department, David worked several assignments including a stint at Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall (BJNJH) and Taft High School. During his career he helped numerous minors by acting as a mentor and as a father figure; he truly cared for everyone he came in contact with. David was respected by his peers and was often called upon to provide assistance in grievance matters. He had a true passion to see that those that needed his help, would get his help. It was part of his character to sacrifice his time and assist those in need. David would not let you fight alone; as he often stood by your side in your fight for justice. This led to David’s involvement in the American Federation of County and Municipal Employees Union (AFSCME) Local 685. David served as a Union Steward and quickly became a respected advocate for his fellow employees. When I needed help transforming LACCEA into the premier association it is today, I contacted my friend, and BJNJH buddy, David, knowing that he had a strong work ethic and devout commitment to his peers as well as the Latino Community. With David’s leadership, LACCEA doubled its membership and helped our 2000 members receive service in their time of need. David was often the face and voice of LACCEA. When he spoke, you could tell he was truly passionate about LACCEA and its mission. At LACCEA we live by a simple model: we live, work, and fight as a family. As a family, we run to the fight, not from the fight. David loved to be helpful and had such a great heart. Whether it was helping his co-workers or delivering food and clothing to the poor, David was the first to volunteer, and always the last to leave. LACCEA is a better organization because of David. David, we miss you and we will never forget you, brother. May God watch over your family and reward you for all you did to serve others. God bless, my friend. Rest in Peace, till we all meet again. Si Se Puede. PAGE 2 LACCEA NEWS SEPTEMBER 2014—SPECIAL Message From Anthony Flores David Jimenez RIP Anthony Flores & David Jimenez Brother David Jimenez of the Old Guard: Over the years we have constantly accompanied you on the road to honor and glory in all of your wisdom and magical rides. As you walk on the clouds we weep for your presence. Your image and your beautiful soul will never be forgotten. The angels in heaven will bow their heads and look to you. The illusions of your departure have us ponder our thoughts of good and evil. I may be wrong about my worth, but yours is a great armor of beauty, and for that we have consented to survive in your honor. In these latter times, as in the days of your prosperity, you have invariably been a model of courage and fidelity, your spirit and your virtue will serve the earth. With someone such as you, our cause will not be lost. The love I have in my heart is that we will meet again. Though his passing consummates a spur and a promise to his survivors, his passing is victoriously surrounded by those who love him. We all fight death and death creeps up like a thief and comes as our master. David’s passing is no blasphemy against us or mother earth, his spirit will still glow like a sunset around the earth. David will walk in beauty throughout our days; he will lend us strength and wisdom to fight our greatest enemies ourselves. He will seal the four winds of heaven. We pray that he sees the sun to give us light and hope, and the moon to protect us while we sleep. We know that you are on your path to your golden wonder. I intend to toast to the history of our friendship. Adieu, my friend. I will press you to my heart. I will miss you the most. Anthony Flores LA County Chicano Employee Association 09/04/2014 Message From Norberto Zaragoza Dear Family and Friends, I still find it hard to believe that our brother David is no longer here with us. I had the honor of meeting David two years ago. In these past two years, we established a friendship and bond that most would have thought was a lifelong friendship. That was the type of person David was! Every person he en- countered and spoke with, would quickly feel his energy, happiness, and his authentic desire to be friends. David was a remarkable person that had such optimism for everything he did. I will miss him, like most who had the privilege of knowing him. My condolences and prayers are with his family and everybody touched by him. I will definitely miss my brother David, but I know his legacy will continue to live through those who knew him. “Death ends a life, not a relationship.” Albom Norberto Zaragoza Board of Director Los Angeles County Chicano Employees Assn. PAGE 3 PAGE 4 LACCEA NEWS SEPTEMBER 2014—SPECIAL Message From Debrina Dante David Jimenez and Debrina Dante David Jimenez was larger than life, ebullient and robust. He spoke fast and he moved even faster. He had the energy and stamina of more than one man. To me he was a chivalrous and gallant gentleman, always willing to help those who needed him. He would lend a hand before you even knew you needed it. The love and respect he had for our LACCEA brothers and sisters was evident in the way he fought for justice and equality for them behind the scenes and right in your face. David was truly the Public Relations Ambassador of LACCEA. He would make me laugh with the way he could just enter a room and engage everyone he saw with his charisma and positivity, he created a stir the moment he walked in the door. He moved around the room shaking hands and greeting each person individually. He knew everybody and they knew him. Mr. Jimenez was intelligent, articulate and loved that microphone. When representing LACCEA at conferences, social and fundraising events throughout Los Angeles County he was tireless and gallant. He was the last one to leave, always offer- ing to assist in any way he could. David taught me, he advised me and he mentored me. David never let me walk out to my car alone and always made sure I was safe. He was like the Big Brother I never had. David Jimenez was a true Knight in Shining Armor. I will miss his sparkling eyes, robust laugh and that beautiful smile. He was my bud and he will truly be missed. Debrina Dante, Parliamentarian LACCEA Board of Directors Message From Gloria Dante David Jimenez, Debrina Dante, and Gloria Dante My Reflections of David Jimenez David was a very special and wonderful man. Everyone that knew or had met him could feel his kind and caring spirit. When you met David, right away there was an awareness that you had found a true friend. Immediately you had a feeling you could trust this man, he was honest, strong and fearless. David loved people...he like to talk and to get to know you better. If you had a challenge or 2 or 3 after talking to him you felt better and more clarity about the best course to take in order to solve the problem. David was ready and did roll up his sleeves and get to work to help anyway he could to help. One evening after a LACCEA Scholarship Banquet Dinner at Stevens Steak House, David escorted me out to my car, the parking lot was packed and someone had parked too close and I was unable to open the door to my vehicle. David took off his suit coat, immediately asked for my keys, got in the passenger seat of the car, climbed over to the driver seat, pulled my car out, opened my door for me, locked it after I was inside and asked that I drive home carefully. I felt safe with David, he had such a caring personality, he was a real gentleman. David lived his life lovingly. In our memories will always be his smile, thoughtfulness and giving nature. He was a Super friend and a Super man. David Jimenez was a true Angel here on earth for a little while...to love, live, and be all that he was sent and meant to be-he was God Sent. We will all miss you DavidWe salute you and Thank you for Being you! Sincerely, Gloria Dante, a proud LACCEA Member since 1983. Ramirez Dear Family and Friends, I am deeply saddened over the loss of one of our brothers in the Probation Department. David was a stand up guy, so full of spirit and energy. I had the honor and privilege of knowing him while working at Sylmar Juvenile Hall in Unit J/K. He always had a good attitude and was great with the kids. David like telling jokes and he had many stories to share. It was relieving to see David when you most needed him; he had a natural ability of lifting you up when you were down. on. Respecfully, Jorge L. Ramirez, DPO II LA County Probation Dept SFV-Mobile Gang Unit My heart and condolences go out to his family and those affected by this tragic loss. He will be missed, but his spirit lives Message From Steve Napoli There are few people that you meet in life and that are full of zest, compassion, and integrity, David was one of them! I first met David at Sylmar Juvenile Hall around 1998, where we both worked as Detention Services Officers, in the Mighty J/K unit. When I met Jimenez, I could feel that positive energy, hard work, and sincerity that exuded from him. He worked very hard and was a total team player; that always had your back. A few months ago, I ran into him at the Lancaster Jet Hawks baseball game, where he threw out the first pitch. As usual, he had a warm smile and full of compliments; he liked to lift others up. I told him that if he "short hops" the opening pitch, that he will never hear the end of it from me. He took the mound and threw a bullet for a strike. I remember the smile on his face during that time, that is what I am going to always remember him for, that smile! May God comfort the family during this very hard time, but remember that he lived his life to the fullest! John 14:1-4 Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God[; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.
