Welcome to SUNFUN Day Camp at
Redeemer Lutheran School. Our
program is open to the community for
children age 4 (by Sept. 1) through
5th grade (2012-13). We are
anticipating a super summer of
Christian fellowship, learning,
recreation, arts & crafts, field trips,
special events, and lots of summer
time fun! This handbook is an attempt to answer many of your
questions about how the camp will be
structured, thematically based,
managed and scheduled. Please feel
free to call us with any questions
or comments.
What to Bring to Camp

Backpack (daily)

One bottle of suntan lotion (Kept at Camp)

Swimsuit and towel (Tuesdays and Fridays)
Lunch and drink (Refrigeration of lunches will not be
available. Please plan accordingly.)

An extra set of clothes (Please include socks,
underwear, shorts and shirt. These clothes will be
stored at camp until the child’s final day for the
summer.

Water bottle (Campers may bring a labeled water
bottle, if they would like. These bottles should only
carry water.)


Vacation Bible School
During the week of June 10-14 campers will
participate in Redeemer’s Vacation Bible School.

Campers currently in preschool and kindergarten
will attend “Tell It on the Mountain” from 9:00 a.m.12:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday. They will participate in
SUNFUN activities in the afternoon on those days until
3:00 p.m.

Campers currently in 1st through 5th grade will
attend VBS Day Camp under the leadership of Camp
Luther staff. The theme of the week is “Live Love(d)”
and will include Bible lessons, music, arts and crafts,
games and outdoor activities. VBS Day Camp will be
held from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

On Friday of VBS week all campers will participate
in
regular camp activities. Our field trip for the week to
Ashwaubomay Park and Beach will take place Friday
afternoon.

Rates for the week will be reduced. At the time of
printing the cost of VBS was not yet set but it will be
minimal. Afternoons for the preschoolers and
kindergarteners will cost $15/day. Friday will cost $30
for all campers.


Week 1: June 10-14 Vacation Bible School
Campers will participate in Redeemer’s
Vacation Bible School. *Reduced rate! For
detailed information please see page 14.
Field Trip: Ashwaubomay Park & Beach
Week 2: June 17-21 Gardening Fun
We will get our hands dirty as we plant a camp
summer garden and learn about how plants grow.
Campers will tend the garden throughout the summer and
enjoy the fruits of their labor later in the summer.
Field Trip: Green Bay Botanical Garden
Week 3: June 24-28 Stars and Stripes
We will celebrate the birthday of our
country this week through crafts, games, a little
history and a very special bike parade.
Field Trip: Heritage Hill
July 1-5 - NO CAMP
Week 4: July 8-12 Games, Games, Games
Everyone loves games and this week will
focus on just that. We will participate in
outdoor games, board games, Wii, iPad and
Smart Board games, learn some new games
and even share our favorites from home!
Field Trip: Bay Beach Amusement Park
Week 5: July 15-19 Wild, Wild, World
Travel the world and learn about different climates and
regions. Dive into the ocean, trek across the dessert, hike
through the tropical rain forest and visit the “frozen
tundra!” Field Trip: Ice Skating at Cornerstone Ice Center

Week 6: July 22-26 Wacky, Wild Science
Do you love to experiment with new ideas,
figure out why things happen, mix
ingredients or create slime? If so, this week
is right up your alley! We will explore the
world of science and participate in some
really cool experiments!
Field Trip: Children’s Museum of Green Bay
Week 7: July 29-August 2 Animal Safari
Become a zoologist and examine the life and behavior
of familiar and strange animals through a virtual
animal tour. Fun and excitement await as we look at
mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish.
Field Trip: NEW Zoo
Week 8: August 5-9 Food Fun
Delicious fun is in store as we set off
on adventures of the culinary kind.
Learn about nutrition, food, cooking
and more!

Creative Cake Supplies
Sunscreen
Please bring one bottle of sunscreen as a donation
to SUNFUN Day Camp. The lotion should have a SPF of
40 or higher. The staff will carry one bottle of
sunscreen with them at all times for off-campus
activities.

If your child has an allergy to certain kinds of
sunscreen please provide a bottle of lotion that he/she
can use labeled with his/her name. The staff will keep
this bottle separate from the others and carry it with
them for your child.

Please put sunscreen on your child before
they leave home. The staff will assist campers with
applying additional sunscreen, as needed, throughout
the day.

Wet & Wild Days
Wet & Wild Days will be held on Friday afternoons,
weather permitting.

The staff will have a variety of sprinklers, pools, “slip
& slides,” and other supervised water activities and
games set up for the children on-site at Redeemer.

Week 9: August 12-16 Mystery Adventures
Grab your magnifying glass and head down a
road of mystery and intrigue. Campers will
discover the latest detective and private eye
techniques. Scavenger hunt clues will lead
to different activities and the final field trip
of the summer.
Field Trip: Clues will be given to campers.
Parents will be told field trip destination
ahead of time.

Field Trips
SUNFUN Day Camp takes a field trip each Thursday
throughout the summer.

Transportation for these trips will be by city bus or
staff member vehicles. Children who are required to
be in child safety seats will need to bring them on field
trip days.

A signed, completed field trip consent on the
registration form must be on file with the SUNFUN Day
Camp director.

Field trip details will be provided through the
weekly newsletter.

All transportation and entrance fees are included in
the camp fees.

Daily Schedule
6:30 - 9:00 a.m. - Optional Morning Extended Care Informal games, puzzles, projects, inside activities.
Meets in Redeemer’s Cougar Care room.
9:00 a.m. - Campers meet leaders in Cougar Care Room
9:00 - 9:15 a.m. - Opening Devotions and
Announcements - Campers meet together in church
for a short devotion, music, and general
announcements.
9:15 - 11:15 a.m. - Thematic Activities (Arts & Crafts,
Games, Computer, Science, Cooking, Snack, Small &
Large Group Activities)
11:15 -11:45 p.m. - Lunch
11:45 -12:00 p.m. - Outdoor Play
12:00 -12:20 p.m. - Story Time/Independent Reading
12:30 - 3:00 p.m. -
Medication
All medications, physical limitations, allergies,
and/or other special medical conditions must be noted
on the registration form.
 Any child needing to take medication during the
camp day will need to complete a medication form and
have it on file with the SUNFUN Day Camp director.


3:00 p.m. - Day Campers dismissed for the day.
The family is responsible for providing the
medication in a container that is clearly labeled with
the child’s name, medication, directions, and dosage.
The container should be placed in a Ziploc bag labeled
with the child’s name.
3:00 - 6:00 p.m. - Optional Afternoon Extended Care Outdoor play, informal games, puzzles, projects, inside
activities. Meets in Redeemer’s Cougar Care room.

Camp Fees
Non-Refundable Registration Fee: (Covers field trips,
swimming, transportation and other materials and
supplies)
$100 for full-time campers
$60 for part-time campers
$15 a week if attending 3 weeks or less
Full-Time Weekly Camp Fees: (5 days per week)
$125 - Covers all on site activities and snacks, except
lunch, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
- $10.00 discount for additional children from
the same family
Part-Time Weekly Camp Fees: (3 days per week)
$90 - Covers all on site activities and snacks, except
lunch, 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.
- $10.00 discount for additional children from the
same family
Extended Care Fees:
$3.75/hr. - Covers care and activities before or after
camp from 6:30 a.m.- 9:00 a.m. and
3:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. when using the program
less than 8 hours a week.
$30/week - Covers care and activities before or after
camp from 6:30 a.m.- 9:00 a.m. and
3:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. when using the program
more than 8 hours a week.
Before and After Camp Care Fees:
$3.75/hr. - Covers care and activities, except lunch,
the weeks of June 3-7 and August 19-23
from 6:30 a.m.- 6:00 p.m
Camp T-Shirt:
$10.00 - Shirt will be worn during all off-site activities. Shirt
will be kept at Redeemer & washed weekly.
Register by April 1 and receive your camp t-shirt FREE!

and redirection. If these procedures do not influence a
child towards positive behavior, a written report will be
given to parents.
If three written reports need to be completed, the
student will miss the next day they are scheduled for
camp. A refund will not be given for this absence.
Emergency Procedures
General first aid procedures with a basic first aid kit
will be utilized by the staff of SUNFUN Day Camp.

If your child is seriously injured, our staff will take
whatever steps may be necessary to obtain
emergency care. These steps include, but are not
limited to, the following:
+ Attempt to contact a parent or guardian.
+ Attempt to contact a friend or relative listed
on the emergency form.
+ Calling an ambulance. The child will be taken,
if deemed necessary, to an emergency hospital
in the company of a staff member, where a
parent or guardian will be required to meet us
also.

All participants must have a signed, completed
medical consent on the registration form and it must be
on file with the SUNFUN Day Camp director.


Registration & Payment
Clothing
Your child should be dressed in play clothes based
on the day’s weather forecast. Children should wear
clothes that can possibly get soiled.
 Proper footwear is also required. Tennis shoes with
socks are highly recommended. It is hard to play and
walk any distance in sandals or flip flops.

Registration forms and fees are due by May 15 to
the Redeemer School office.

You may register for all 10 weeks of camp or any
number or combination of weeks.

One registration form per camper please.
Bathing suits may not be worn to camp. However,
they should be brought to camp on Tuesdays and
Fridays for swimming and water activities.

Checks or cash accepted. Please make checks
payable to REDEEMER LUTHERAN SCHOOL.

Payment is due on these dates:


Each child should bring an extra set of clothes,
including socks, underwear, shorts and shirt in case of
any type of spill or accident. These clothes will be kept
at Redeemer for the duration of the camp.

All June Camp Weeks - Due by June 1
All July Camp Weeks - Due by July 1
All August Camp Weeks - Due by August 1
It would be a great idea to label all pieces of
clothing, swim wear and any other items sent to camp
with your child’s name.

Discipline

At SUNFUN Day Camp we will:
+ strive to treat other campers, staff and
ourselves as special children of God.
+ use positive, friendly language.
+ always stay together as a group, especially on
field trips and neighborhood walking trips.
+ keep our hands to ourselves.
+ respect the property of Redeemer Lutheran
Church & School, the places we visit and other
people.
Extended Care fees are billed weekly. You will
receive a statement. Payment is due one week
from statement date.

If your child is unable to attend on any reserved day
please call the school office at 499-1033. Please
leave a voice message if no one is available to
answer the phone.

A refund of 50 percent will be given due to illness or
other necessary absence on reserved days.
Maximum 20 campers per day!

supervisors will use behavior modification techniques

General Information
Extended Care
Extended Care is available before SUNFUN Day
Camp from 6:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and after Day Camp
from 3:00-6:00 p.m. The cost is $3.75/hr. if using less
than 8 hours per week or $30/week if using more than
8 hours per week. There is no minimum usage fee.

Arrival & Dismissal
All campers must be picked up by one of the
authorized adults listed on their registration form. Any
changes need to be put in a written note and must
accompany the camper.

It is extremely important for parents to be prompt
with dropping off their children and picking them up. If
your child is attending the SUNFUN Day Camp only (no
Extended Care) he/she needs to be there at
9:00 a.m. and picked up at 3:00 p.m.

Please drop off and pick up from the Redeemer
Cougar Care room via the back door of school.

If you are using Before & After Camp Care and/or
Extended Care please drop off in the Cougar Care room
via the back door of school.

A snack will be served each afternoon. Campers
attending in the morning may bring breakfast with
them to eat in Extended Care if they wish.

Any camper that is not picked up by 3:10 will
automatically be enrolled in Extended Care and will be
charged a minimum of one hour.

Please be considerate of our staff by being prompt
with the 6:00 p.m. closing time. A late fee of $1.00 per
minute per child will be assessed for campers staying
after 6:00 p.m.

All outside doors at Redeemer are locked at all
times. Please ring the buzzer to the left of the door to
be let in.

Before & After Camp Care
Before & After Camp Care will run the weeks of
June 3-7 and August 19-23.

Care is available from 6:30 a.m.– 6:00 p.m. at
$3.75/hr. There is no minimum usage fee.

Activities include outdoor play, informal activities,
puzzles, games, arts & crafts, computer, cooking, etc.

Children will need to bring a lunch and drink. Two
snacks will be provided each day.


Camp Communications
A weekly camp newsletter updating parents on
current and upcoming camp activities will be sent
home each week on Friday. (Thursday for campers who
won’t be attending on Friday.) The newsletter will also
be available at Redeemer’s website:
