Message from the President of the PTA
This year marks the 13th annual Key School/Escuela Key Silent Auction. This event is a wonderful collaboration of
parents, teachers, staff, students, and community. Through this auction we raise the majority of funds for the Key
School PTA budget. The much needed funds support many activities and programs throughout the entire school
year. Here are a just a few examples of the many programs and activities supported through the PTA:

• Homework Club
• Teachers’ Supplies
• Spanish Dictionaries
• KBC News
• Arts Festival
• RIF Book Distributions
• Club Scholarships
• Authors & Speakers
• Teacher Appreciation Week
• School Directories for Every Household
• Library and Web Materials
In addition to helping fund all these programs, this year, the Auction Committee has collaborated with the
Schoolyard Committee to focus on the needs of the schoolyard project. Some of the initiatives include raised
garden beds, storage bins, tree benches, and more gardening equipment.
The PTA works together with Key School to provide students, teachers and staff with opportunities for learning,
growth, fun, and exploration. This is what makes Key such a great place to learn!
The Auction takes place because of the efforts of dozens of creative and dedicated volunteers! Our Auction Chairs
this year are Carson Helsper and Jennifer Danaceau. Carson and Jen have a fabulous team of planners, creators,
recruiters, solicitors, collectors, donors, transporters, and organizers working with them to make this event a huge
success. Many, many thanks to Carson, Jen, and their team!
I hope you will join us for a fun evening on March 21th at 6:00 PM where you can meet other parents and enjoy
seeing the fruits of their talents and labor. The event is free, including the delicious food, and dozens of items may
be won. Consider all the birthdays and other gifts you may need throughout the year – you might find them at the
Auction! What about your travel and vacation plans? There are vacation home stays and travel opportunities for
sale! Need a special event for your family, friends, or visiting guests? How about tickets to a sporting or cultural
event? What about a special tour of a Washington attraction? You’ll be amazed at the wide array of items
available. Come and enjoy!

Mensaje de la Presidenta de la PTA
Este año llegamos a la 13ra Subasta Silenciosa de La Escuela Key. Es un evento que cuenta con la maravillosa
colaboración de los padres, profesores, empleados, alumnos y la comunidad en general. Mediante este evento
recaudamos la mayor parte de los fondos del presupuesto de la Asociación de Padres de la Escuela Key. Los tan
necesitados fondos apoyan muchas actividades y programas durante todo el año escolar. Estos son apenas algunos
cuantos ejemplos de los múltiples programas y actividades que apoya la Asociación de Padres:

Además de ayudar con fondos para todos estos proyectos, este año el Comité de la Subasta colaboró con el Comité
del Patio Escolar centrándose en las necesidades del proyecto del patio escolar. Entre algunas de las iniciativas se
encuentran: lechos elevados para jardines, contenedores de almacenaje, bancas bajo los árboles y más equipo de
jardinería.
La Asociación de Padres, junto con la escuela, se esmeran por darle a sus alumnos, profesores y empleados más
oportunidades de aprender, crecer, divertirse y explorar. ¡Esto es lo que hace que La Escuela Key sea un lugar
magnífico para aprender!
¡La subasta se lleva a cabo gracias a los esfuerzos y a la dedicación de docenas de voluntarios creativos! Las
coordinadoras de la subasta este año son Carson Helsper y Jennifer Danaceau. Carson y Jen cuentan con un equipo
fabuloso de planeadores, creadores, reclutadores, agentes, cobradores, donantes, transportistas y organizadores
que trabajan con ellas para hacer de este evento todo un éxito. ¡Mil gracias a Carson, a Jen y a su equipo!

How the Auction Works

Donated items are organized by category (e.g., Toys & Games) on colored tables. Refer to the auction schedule
on p. 4-5 to see what categories will be found on the different colored tables.
Each donated item has a bid sheet with a description of the item, fair market value, the minimum bid, and the
minimum bid increase. The minimum bid increase depends on the estimated value of the item and will be listed
on the bid sheet. If you do not raise the bid by at least the minimum amount your bid will be disqualified.
To bid on an item, write your bidder number (this will be assigned when you check-in and written on the back
of your catalog) and the amount of your bid on the bid sheet. Others will do the same thing and increase the
bid amount.
The highest bid at bid closing time is the winning bid. When multiple people are eligible to win one item, such
as a teacher outing that will include 3 children, there will only be ONE bid sheet. The highest bid automatically
wins a spot on the outing, followed by the next highest bids that precede it. This means that you may not have
to raise the bid to win but just match the preceding highest bid. When appropriate, coordinate with friends
ahead of time. If you want to reserve all the spaces for yourself or friends, just be sure to enter the correct
number of bids to purchase all the spots.
Bidding must stop (pencils down and step away from the table!) when the Emcees indicate that bidding at that
table has closed. Bidding sometimes gets quite exciting for some items that are traditionally sought after.
Please play nice and behave in a way that would make our kids proud.
Table closing times are listed in the Auction Schedule. Bidding periods may get extended but table closings will
always be clearly indicated by the Emcees.
If you really want a particular Silent Auction item, consider making the Guaranteed Purchase at the bottom of
the bid sheet. By paying 125% of the value of the item, it’s yours. Guaranteed bids will not be available on all
items.
If an item does not receive any bids, the auction committee reserves the right to lower the minimum bid. Items
that do not sell at the end of the bidding period may be further reduced and relocated to the Fire Sale Table. Be
sure to check this table at the end of the night for these great deals.
Please do not ask teachers and staff who are present to duplicate their items.
Live Auction
There will be one Live Auction session. Live auction items are listed on page 58. The live auction will begin at 9:05
pm. The Emcees will announce the item up for bid, the value, and the starting bid. To bid, hold up your catalog,
showing your Bidder Number so that it is visible to the Emcees and state your bid amount.
Cash Prize Raffle - $250
Buy tickets for $5 each or 5 tickets for $20 for a chance to win a cash prize of $250. Tickets will be sold at the event
until 8:30 pm. Winning raffle tickets will be drawn during the Live Auction.
Take a Chance
You choose where to place your raffle tickets according to what prizes you would like to try to win. For a list of
Take a Chance Raffle items, see page 58-59. (Items are subject to change.) Winners will be announced during the
Live Auction.
Teachers/Staff Raffle - 3 Drawings
Purchase a raffle ticket, place a teacher or staff name on the back of the ticket and they will be eligible to win one
of three prizes. The list of prizes is listed on page 59. Tickets will be sold at the event until 8:30 pm. Winners will be
announced during the Live Auction.

General Information
This is an ADULTS ONLY function. Please invite friends and relatives, but leave children at home or at Enrichment
Night.
All sales are final. Please read descriptions and restrictions on items to prevent misunderstandings.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, the expiration date for all gift certificates and services is March 21, 2010.
Payment must be made before you leave the auction. You may pay by cash, personal check (made out to Key PTA),
VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express. So that you have one fewer step for checkout at the end of the
night, you can register your credit card number in advance at http://francisscottkey.maestroweb.com or when you
check-in on auction night.
Waiver: By his/her purchase, the Buyer waives any claim for liability against the school or the Donor(s) of the
Auction item, and neither the school nor the Donor is responsible for any personal injuries or damage to property
that may result from the utilization of the auction item.

Los artículos donados están organizados por categorías (p. ej. juguetes y juegos) y estarán colocados en mesas
de diferente color. Consulte las páginas 4 & 5 del catálogo de la subasta para ver las categorías
correspondientes a a cada una de las mesas de distinto color.
Cada artículo donado tiene al lado una hoja con la descripción del artículo, su valor comercial justo, el valor
mínimo de la subasta y el incremento mínimo de la oferta. El aumento mínimo de la oferta depende del valor
del artículo, y esta cantidad será identificada en la hoja de la subasta. Si usted no aumenta el monto de la oferta
para el artículo en por lo menos el incremento mínimo, su oferta será descalificada.
Para hacer una oferta, escriba en la hoja de la subasta su número de postor (este número le será asignado a la
entrada a la hora de registrarse y estará escrito en el revés de su catálogo) y la cantidad que usted propone.

La oferta más alta a la hora del cierre será la ganadora. Cuando más de una persona pueda ganar un artículo,
