Science Fiction Film Monday through Friday, August 15 - 19; Grades 5 - 7 Navigate the solar system in our Digital Planetarium, and utilize video equipment to create your own space mission film. Campers will gain inspiration from The Twilight Zone, Avatar, the 50th anniversary of Star Trek and more. Reuse your Resources Monday through Friday, August 15 - 19; Grades 4 - 6 This week is where creative campers can bring new life to everyday materials. You will create a variety of projects using recycled materials, as well as items found in nature. At the end of the week, students will host an art showcase to display their projects. Fun with Food and Fitness! Monday through Friday, August 22 - 26; Grades 4 - 6 Campers will learn new ways to become active and get healthy throughout this camp as they make a variety of nutritious snacks, and experience fun forms of physical activity including yoga, aerobics and crossfit. Time Travelers Monday through Friday, August 22 - 26; Grades 3 - 6 Spend your days exploring various civilizations throughout history. Campers will encounter a new time period each morning and afternoon as they make calendars with the Mayans, create hieroglyphics with the Egyptians, prepare treasure maps with pirates, and so much more. Space is the Place: Asteroids, Craters and Comets, oh my! Monday through Friday, August 29 - September 2nd; Grades 3 - 6 This camp is out of this world! Explore the objects that orbit our galaxy through presentations in our Digital Planetarium. Campers will create their own paper mache solar system, make pop-rock candy, make their own nebula jar, and even get to interact with a real meteorite. Camp Cardboard Monday through Friday, August 29 - September 2nd; Grades 2 - 5 Inspired by Caine’s Arcade, Roberson Museum and Science Center invites any inventors willing to accept the cardboard challenge. Whether it is an automobile or arcade, a rocketship or robot, you will design your own contraption to be showcased at the end of the week using cardboard, recycled materials and your imagination. 30 Front St., Binghamton, NY 13905 (607)772-0660 www.roberson.org Funding for camps is provided, in part, by general operating support grants from the United Cultural Fund, a program of the Broome County Arts Council, the Klee Foundation, and the New York State Council on the Arts. Preschool cost is $86 for members, $107 for non- members, non- refundable. Beginning grade is based on the grade your student will be entering in the Fall. All materials included. Camps run from 9:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. We offer before (8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.) and after (3:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.) camp care for an additional fee of $20 per week. Drawing and Animation Crime Scene Investigations It’s time to put things in motion using hand and computer drawings, toys, found objects, and clay models. This popular camp begins with basic forms of animation such as flipbooks, then moves on to computer animation programs. Campers will script, film and edit their own stop-motion short film. Dive into the world of forensic science including crime scene investigation, evidence analysis, witness interrogation, and fingerprinting. Campers will conduct a trial before a jury of parents and attempt to prove their case using the evidence they collected during the investigation. Monday through Friday, June 20 - 24; Grades 4 - 6 Monday through Friday, July 18 - 22; Grades 4 - 8 Week of Geek! Drawing and Animation Have fun with technology as you dissect keyboards, learn how to make a youtube video and experiment with various ways to create electricity. Research inventions that have changed the world, and explore several career paths in technology to inspire the creation of your own invention. Adventure week- Comic Book Edition Summer Olympics Calling all Heroes! Whether you’re a fan of Batman, Wonderwoman, or The Hulk, each day of Comic Book Adventure Week will present unique activities pertaining to your favorite heroes from DC Comics, Marvel Comics and beyond. Spend the week creating your own alter ego and star in your own comic book. Go for the gold at Roberson Museum and Science Center’s Summer Olympic games. Represent the countries taking part in this year’s olympics as you participate in team and individual physical challenges and creative thinking activities. Points will be tallied throughout the week for the ultimate prize. New Preschool Camp: CRAFTERnoon for Kids Monday through Friday, July 25 - 29; Grades 2 - 4 Monday through Friday, June 20 - 24; Grades 4 - 6 Monday through Friday, June 27 - July 1; Grades 5 - 7 Monday through Friday, June 27 - July 1 (12:00 - 3:00 p.m.) Preschool- Ages 3&4 **Space is limited- sign up early! Your earliest learners will gain their first museum experience while exploring art forms and creating mini masterpieces using clay, paint and a variety of other materials. KIDventure Camp Tuesday through Friday, July 5 - 8; Grades 2 - 5 Kick off summer with classic activities including slip n’ slide races, water balloon fights, tie dying and more. Monday through Friday, July 11 - 15; grades 2 - 5 As a beginning grossologist campers will discover the sticky, stinky and slimy world of science. Learn what makes your body work, and create your own ooey-gooey substances that are sure to make your friends squeamish. New Preschool Camp: Bug Morning to You! Monday through Friday, July 18-22; Grades 4 - 6 Monday through Friday, July 25 - 29; Grades 3 - 6 Mythological Creatures Explore the mystery behind legends from world civilizations and pop culture. Research the background and analyze the “evidence” of various myths such as the loch ness monster, bigfoot, mermaids, the chupacabra, and more as you determine if these creatures are based on reality, or are simply urban legends. Abrakadoodle Art Camp Monday through Friday, August 1 -5; Grades 2 - 5 Explore a unique style of art each day including abstract art, scenic art, mosaics and sculptures. Campers will create their own works of art throughout the week using various mediums such as clay, paint, colored pencils, and more to be featured in a talent showcase at the end of the week. Bach to Rock Monday through Friday, August 1 - 5; Grades 5 - 7 Form a band, construct your own instruments and create a music video featuring your original song. In this musical week, campers will explore the background of a wide range of artists and their particular forte while discovering their personal musical talents. Ecosystem Exploration Monday through Friday, August 8 - 12 (no before or after care Monday and Tuesday); Grades 3 - 6 Campers will discover the many different plant and animal species native to our local surroundings. Monday and Tuesday will be spent at Finch Hollow Nature Center. Campers will also interact with animals from the Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park, observe Roberson’s nocturnal animal collection, gather river samples, and learn ways to conserve and protect endangered ecosystems. Odd Squad ‘Be the Agent’ Camp in partnership with WSKG Public Media Monday through Friday, August 8 - 12; Ages 5 - 8 Campers will step into the shoes of Odd Squad agents and solve a series of odd cases that extend from the popular PBS Kids show, seen on WSKG-TV. These real-world activities will enable young “agents” to meaningfully apply math skills as they restore order to chaos and put things right again.
