Marcel: ‘Wat voor een festival is dat dan?’
Julia: ‘Dit is Mandala. Een festival voor jou, mij en alleen maar lieve mensen.’
Zie je het voor je? Een gesprekje tussen Marcel Mingers - oprichter van Extrema en zijn dochter Julia. Op vierjarige leeftijd tekent Julia op vakantie in Spanje haar
eigen festival en noemt het Mandala. Vader is natuurlijk meteen enthousiast. Hij
besluit op dat moment dat het campingfestival er ooit van moet komen. Nu - zo’n
twee jaar later en met een beetje fantasie van papa - is Mandala geboren. En dáárom
sturen wij jou deze brief...
Stel je nou eens voor… Je gaat op vakantie in een prachtig, sprookjesachtig landschap.
Met bossen, weilanden, een strand en helder water. Tijdens het opbouwen van je hutje
denk je na. Wat staat mij eigenlijk te wachten? Er is geen programma bekend. Is dit
eigenlijk wel een festival? Het lijkt meer dan dat. Je kan gaan en staan waar je wil. Het
festival is de camping, de camping is het festival. We noemen het Mandala.
Alles is één en alles is van jou. Je komt overal, je ontdekt en je láát mensen ontdekken.
Mandala verrast, Mandala verbindt. Mandala is een vakantie waarin jij doet wat jíj het
allerliefst doet. Je toont je kunsten. Waar dan ook. Middenin het bos, op het water
misschien, of op het strand. Zelfs de bomen staan tot jouw beschikking. Bouw daarin een
hut voor gestrande gasten, maak muziek, creëer en laat zien wat je mooi vindt! Het is aan
jou.
Mandala zoekt Creators. Creators van kunst, van muziek, theater en spel. Creators van
eten, Creators van sport en Creators van entertainment. In Mandala pacht jij een weekend
lang jouw plekje. Waar? Dat is aan jou. Het terrein van honderd hectare heb jij tot je
beschikking. Word onderdeel van Mandala, een andere wereld waar alles anders kan én
mag.
Geen grote stages, maar kleine en intieme area’s. Bouw jouw woonkamer in het bos en
nodig reizigers bij jou thuis uit. Of bouw een avontuurlijk vlot en bezoek de
Mandala-tempel, een prachtig bouwwerk midden op het water. Ben je spontaan,
impulsief? Ga voor pop-up feestjes. Waarom niet? Alles kan, alles mag. Nogmaals.
Mandala is vrij, Mandala is gemoedelijk en Mandala is voor ons. Voor lieve mensen die
mooie dingen maken en mooie dingen willen laten zien. Voor lieve mensen die willen
genieten van een nachtelijk lichtkunstschouwspel. Maar voor een moment van bezinning
is ook ruimte. Lounge! Of ga uit je dak! Voel je vrij. Knutsel samen, bouw, speel, geniet...
Doe!
Maar Mandala begint bij jullie. De Creators. Wij hebben jou geselecteerd (of jij hebt ons
gevonden via onze website) omdat jij, je product en jouw creativiteit mogelijk bij Mandala
passen. Zodra je je hebt aangemeld via het Creator-formulier op onze website kijken we
samen of er een klik is. Is die er, dan kan het proces beginnen!
Wij gaan ervan uit dat je gebruikt wat je hebt en wat je kan. Maar de eventuele onkosten
worden door ons vergoed. Want een mooie tijd, hoeft jou niets te kosten. Heb je nog
meer hulp nodig? Daarvoor zijn andere Creators. Ondersteun elkaar en maak het samen.
Om een voorbeeld te noemen. Ben jij een lichtkunstenaar maar wil je ook muziek bij jouw
area? Zoek de juiste partij, versterk elkaar en word meer dan de som der delen.
Je krijgt van ons Mandala-passen voor je helpers en crew (Dala’s). Hiermee kan je blijven
logeren. Daarnaast krijg je van ons passen om aan mensen te geven uit jouw netwerk die
je graag deel uit wil laten maken van jouw hoekje en Mandala in het totaal. Deze vrienden
mogen weer goedkope vriendschapspassen aanbieden aan hun netwerk. Koppel je een
andere maker aan jouw project, dan geldt het bovenstaande ook voor hem, haar of hen.
En wat we zelf doen? In totaal programmeren wij enkele area’s met muziek en bouwen we
een prachtige tempel op het water. Maar de invulling is vrij, ook voor ons! De toekomst
zal het leren. Maar wat vast staat: samen maken we er iets moois van. Want Mandala
slaapt nooit. Mandala gaat door. Mandala geeft je een vakantiegevoel als nooit tevoren. En
jij hoort daarbij.

Can you picture it? A conversation between Marcel Mingers – founder of Extrema –
and his daughter Julia. At the age of four, during a holiday in Spain, Julia draws her
own festival and calls it Mandala. Of course, dad loves it immediately. He decides
then and there that one day the festival has to become the real deal. Two years later,
the day has finally arrived: Julia’s festival has come to life and that’s why we are
sending you this letter…
Imagine… You go on holiday to a fairytale destination. Forests, meadows, a beach and
clear water. Whilst you are building your little cabin you think about the festival. What can
I expect? The line up is still unknown. Can I even call it a festival? It feels differently. I can
go wherever I want to go. The festival is the camping and the camping is the festival. Let’s
call it: Mandala.
All is one and one is all, all is yours and all is ours. You can go anywhere, you can
discover anything and you let people discover everything. Mandala surprises, Mandala
connects. Mandala is a break from everyday life where you can do what you want to do.
You can share your talents, wherever you want to! In the forest, in the water or on the
beach maybe? Even the trees can be your platform. Create a cabin up high where you can
gather with other guests to simply create whatever you want. It is all up to you!
Mandala is looking for Creators. Creators of art, music, theatre and games. Creators of
food, sports and entertainment. Mandala gives you the opportunity to experience life.
Where? That is up to you. The terrain of a hundred hectares is your playground. Become a
part of Mandala, a world in which anything is possible and everything is encouraged.
No massive stages, but small and intimate areas. Build your living room in the forest and
invite travellers into your home. You can even create a raft and visit the Mandala temple:
an amazing structure floating in the middle of the lake. Are you spontaneous, impulsive?
Go to one of the pop-up parties. Why not? We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again:
anything is possible!
Mandala is free-spirited, Mandala is intimate and Mandala is ours. Created for lovely
people who want to share amazing concepts. Why not enjoy one of our Light Artspectacles, or would you rather take time to reflect on life? Relax or party! Be free to be
who you want to be. Create together, play together, enjoy together.
Mandala starts with you. The Creators. We have selected you (or you’ve found us on our
website) because Mandala and you might be a good fit. After you’ve filled in the Creator
Appliction Form on our website, we’d like to discover if there is a connection. If the
feeling is mutual, we can start the process.
We hope that you can use whatever you have at your disposal. However, the extra
expenses will be on us. Because, having a good time doesn’t have to cost you a thing,
right? Do you need help? This is where the network of other Creators comes in. Support
each other and create together. For example, are you a light artist who needs music? Find
the perfect musical Creator and strengthen each other.
We will provide you with Mandala Passes for your helpers and your crew (Dalas). This
gives you the opportunity to come and stay with us. We will also provide you with passes
to give to the people you want to be a part of your little corner at Mandala and the festival
in general. These friends will also have the possibility to offer Friendship Tickets to their
friends. Have you teamed up with another Creator? This means all of the above will also
be available for them.
So, what do the organizers do? We’ll set up a few areas with music and don’t forget
about the temple on the water! We will use our freedom to create as well! But one thing
is certain, it’s going to be a blast! Because Mandala never sleeps, Mandala continues,
Mandala will make you feel like never before. And you can be part of it.
