the flood of relief and satisfaction
that accompanies your decision
to attend FSU, you are faced with
an entirely new set of questions
and decisions. The good news is
that we are here to help! This
document serves as your guide to
transitioning to life in Tallahassee.
Although created specifically with
the intention of guiding you
through the Tallahassee housing

you with valuable information on
living and transitioning to FSU.

There are several different types of housing in Tallahassee,
undergraduate, graduate, young professional, family, etc.
Each offers unique experiences and amenities to its
residents. When selecting where to live it is important you
consider the type of environment you thrive in professionally
and academically.
Location
Be sure to check the safety map in Tallahassee before you
sign a lease. Current HESA grads can also give you good
insight into safe and unsafe areas of Tallahassee. Also
consider where nearby public transportation stations are
located if you are not bring a car to Tallahassee.
Cost
Consider making a monthly budget factoring in your various
expenses. This can help you make more informed financial
aid and housing decisions.
Move in Availability
Undergraduate student housing typically has limited move in
availability while graduate and young professional housing
may operate on a rolling basis and require time on a wait
list. Check with your employer and housing management to
determine flexibility in your move-in timeline.
Furnished vs. Unfurnished
If you’re moving from across the country you may want to
save yourself the hassle of moving your furniture across the
country. Luckily for you there are many discount furniture
stores and apartments/houses that offer furnished options.
Housing Style
Are you looking to life in a house, apartment, condo, etc?
Private landlords may offer greater tenant flexibility,
however, apartment complexes may help you save some
money. Take time to figure out what fits your needs.
