Other Important INFO
The staff at Piney Run Park and Nature Center welcomes you and your children to Piney Run Summer Nature Camp! We have an exciting
summer planned and we look forward to teaching your children to explore, learn, play, and much more on the grounds of our 800-acre park. It is
our job to ensure the safety and
well-being of each of our valued campers.
 Pack a lunch daily with plenty of water, including a snack, in an
insulated bag. Freezing a water bottle filled 1/2 full, and then filled to
the top in the morning helps provide cold drinking water throughout
the day.
 Campers MUST wear close-toed shoes at all times. Crocs and water
shoes are only allowed during the canoeing and other water sports.
Absolutely no sandals!
3
 Bug spray is very important as the campers will spend most of the
day outdoors. We make every effort to avoid insect bites however,
there are ticks and other insects in the park so it is wise to check
your camper daily.
 Apply sunblock on your child daily—we are outside and not always
shaded!
Our campers are very important to us so please drive SLOWLY as you enter the park … 15mph is our limit!

My child, ____________________________________________ has my permission to participate in Piney Run Summer
Nature Camp. I understand that he/she is subject to the Park and Nature Center rules of conduct. I hereby agree to discuss
the following behavior policy with my child, and agree to its contents.
BEHAVIOR POLICY:
Inappropriate behavior will not be accepted or tolerated from any camper at Piney Run Summer Nature Camp. Inappropriate
behavior includes but is not limited to, foul language, discussing subject matter of a mature nature, hurting or teasing other
campers, abusing or teasing the animals, bad attitude, name calling, disrespecting a counselor/director/volunteer, not
cooperating, not listening or following directions, wandering away from the group, fighting, spitting on camp property,
stealing or destroying camp equipment, littering on camp property, stealing, and threatening another child. Only 2 offenses
will be allowed at camp.
 On the first offense of any camper displaying any inappropriate behavior, camper will receive a warning from the counselor.
 On the second offense, the child will be given a time-out and counselor will discuss with the child what he/she did wrong
and allow them to reflect on the situation. The time a child spends in time-out will depend largely upon child’s age and
circumstances for which the time-out was given.
 On the third offense or if the child refuses to cooperate in time-out with the counselor, the child will be sent to the camp
station and placed in time-out with the Camp Director. The incident will be recorded and must be signed by a parent.
 On the fourth offense, the child’s parents will be called to pick up child from camp. At that time it will be determined,
based on the situation, if the child will be allowed to return to camp. If camper is dismissed from camp, no refund will be
given.
For Groups 4,5 and 6, the Camp reserves the right not to allow any camper to stay late or campout on Friday night for
behavior issues.
Any conduct which can be construed of a sexual or sexually harassing nature will not be tolerated and will result in immediate
dismissal from camp. Drugs, alcohol or weapons of any kind will result in an immediate dismissal from camp and local police
will be contacted.
No electronic devices (cell phones, iPods, etc.) are allowed at camp by campers. If a camper is found to have any of these
items: on 1st offense the item will be confiscated and Camp Director or Park Superintendent will hold the item until the end
of the day, and it will be returned directly to the parent; a 2nd offense will result in camper being dismissed from camp
without a refund.
CANOEING / KAYAKING:
I understand that canoeing and kayaking will be among the activities in which my child will participate. Camp rules require
that a life jacket be worn at all times while on the water (campers who have not completed first grade do not participate in
canoeing or kayaking programs).
WAIVER OF LIABILITY:
By my signature below, I acknowledge that there are inherent risks and dangers associated with recreation programs, that
Carroll County Department of Recreation & Parks and Piney Run Park and Nature Center does not provide any registrant
medical or hospitalization insurance whatsoever, and therefore, I hold Carroll County Commissioners and their agents
harmless from all claims of injury, damage, or loss which may result in my child(ren)’s participation in this program.
AUTHORIZATION FOR USE OF PHOTOGRAPHIC LIKENESS:
I agree to allow Piney Run Summer Nature Camp to take and utilize photographic images of the registered individual/s for the
purpose of promotion and publicizing of Piney Run Summer Nature Camp and/or other Department programs and events. If I
prefer to not allow my child to be photographed, I will call 410-795-6043 to register my request with the Camp.
