As you know, the Elmwood Classic Race is the oldest and one of the largest races in Jefferson Parish and has always been located within the Elmwood Business Park and sponsored by many of the businesses in the Park. The Elmwood Business Association is a proud sponsor and supporter of this event. The Elmwood Classic Race is organized by the Rotary Club of Harahan with all proceeds to benefit the Harahan Memorial Scholarship Foundation, a non-profit corporation established to provide college scholarships to needy and qualified East Jefferson Parish students. Each year the Foundation awards scholarships worth $12,000 to Jefferson Parish students based on financial needs and scholastic ability. Often our recipients have stated that this is their only means and opportunity to attend college. This is the 28th year of the race and is scheduled for Sunday, January 26, 2014. We hope that everyone can come out and join us on race day. There is a ½ mile walk, a 5K and a 10K walk/run. There is something for everyone. After the race, there will be a great party with a DJ, a live band and many food and beverage items. Some featured items have included: coca-cola products, Miller beer, Kentwood water, fried catfish, fried Oreo cookies, red beans & rice, Jambalaya, chips, and fresh fruits. Registrations can be made at nolarunning. com. Colorful long sleeve t-shirts will be given out to all participants. This race/walk is a good way to promote running and healthy activity and to enjoy a Sunday morning event with your friends, family and co-workers.
