STROMBERG TYPE EE-l CARBURETOR INSTRUCTIONS FOR DIS-ASSEMBLY NOTE: In the detailed directions below, parts will merely be identified by numbers and'very short descriptions or abbreviations. A.ASSEMBLIES REMOVING 4. Remove Float Axle (41), then remove Float (17). 5. Remove two Low Speed Jets (13) and (16). 6. Remove Power By Pass Jet (14) and Gasket (15). AIR HORN AND FUEL BOWL 1. Remove Pump Rod (22). 2. Remove Choke Lever Fulcrum Screw (7) . 3. Unhook Choke Lever Return Spring (6) from Choke Shaft Lever. 4. Remove Air Horn Screws and Lockwashers (29). 5. Remove Air Horn Assy. (2) and Gasket (11), then set this assembly aside. 6. Remove Fuel Bowl Attaching Screws and Lockwashers (19). 7. Remove Fuel Bowl Assembly (42) and Gasket (20), then set this assembly aside. 8. The remaining assembly is the Throttle Shaft Casting Assembly (57). DO NOT REMOVE PUMP DISCHARGE TUBES. Soak parts in cleaning solution. O. AIR HORN DIS-ASSEMBLY 1. Remove Pump Lever Cotter Pin (27). 2. Remove Pump Lever Fulcrum Screw Lever (26) and Spring (25) and Pump Piston Assembly (12). 3. Remove Felt Washer (30), Steel Washer (31) and Spring (32). 4. Remove Retainer Cup (33), Washer (34) and Pump Piston Spring (35). Remove Pump Piston (36). 5. Feel for play between the Choke Shaft and Lever (5) and the Casting (2). If not excessive do not disassemble. Also examine the Auxiliary Air Valve and Spring (10) located in the Choke Valve, to see if these operate freely. (If necessary) DIS-ASSEMBLING THE CHOKE VALVE AS- THROTTLE SHAFT CASTING DIS-AS~EMBL Y 1. Remove two Idle Needle Valves (54) and Springs (55) . • 2. Remove two Idle Channel Plugs (56). 3. Feel for excessive side play between the Casting and the Throttle Shaft (23). If the play is excessive, the Throttle Shaft and Lever Asse'l1tbly must be removed. Excessive play at these points will cause air leakage, making correct carburetor performance impossible. If the play is not excessive do not dis-assemble. (If necessary) DIS-ASSEMBLING THROTTLE SHAFT AND 8. SEMBLY. 6. Remove Choke Valve Attaching Screws (1); · Choke Valve (9). Remove Plug at the end of the Choke Shaft and slide the Shaft out. Do not lose the Spring Washer (8). Soak parts in cleaning solution. LEVER ASSEMBLY. 4. Remove Throttle Lever Stop Pin (50). 5. Remove Throttle 'Lever Stop (51), and Spring (52), and Loose Throttle Lever (53). 6. (To help you later in the assembly note the Throttle Valves (58) positions and markings, before dis-assembling.) Remove Throttle Valve Attaching Screws (59) and Valves (58). 7. Slide out Throttle Shaft (23). Soak parts in cleaning solutions. C. FUEL BOWL DIS-ASSEMBLY 1. Remove one Check Valve Plug (45) and Gasket (44) then remove Check Valve (43). 2. Remove two Main Discharge Jet Plugs (49) and Gaskets (48). Remove two Main Jets (47), using CT-75 wrench. Remove Main Discharge Nozzles (46) with Hygrade Nozzle Extractor CTI09-29. 3. Remove Needle Valve (40) and Seat (38) and Gasket (39). FIG. 2 NOTE: In the HYGRADE FINGERTIP CARBURETOR REBUILDING KIT you will find all the parts that need replacmg in the carburetor you are working on. There are a number of parts in the carburetor which do not wear and should be put back when rebuilding. Included in the HYGRADE Kit are all new gaskets, washers, springs, and jets. The smaller parts are packed in envelopes by assemblies. When you start assembling, as you come to each section of the carburetor take out the envelope for that assembly and lay the parts on the table in front of you. Compare these new parts with those you have taken off the carburetor. Disca,rd the exact same, worn parts and rebuild the carburetor only with the new HYGRADE parts. As a check on your own work, when you have finished any assembly operation you should have no more parts left in that envelope. In re-assembling a carburetor it is most important that all tools and parts, including the hands, be kept absolutely clean. 2 I RE-ASSEMBL Y • STROMBERG Type EE-l A.
