The students follow along with the process step-by-step over a period of five to six weeks to create a final oil painting. The intent of the class is not to copy but to steer the students through a process, thus encouraging them to incorporate the featured techniques into their own technique repertoire. This is a traditional academy-style class. Serious beginners to advanced students are welcome. It can be a pet, your child, your grandma or someone else, the choice is yours. Bring a hard copy picture and the instructor will show you how to recreate it on canvas, using oil paints. Class lessons will include proportion, value, and simplification of the planes of the model, limited palettes and extended palettes. This class will utilize class-long and multiple-week poses with the life model. Learn to set up your own still life for the most dramatic effect. Intermediate and advanced students should bring their medium of choice. From artists like Rembrandt, Delacroix, and Turner to Impressionists like Monet and Renoir, artists have always looked for ways to go beyond simple realism. Mixed media drawing and painting include but are not limited to charcoal, graphite, and acrylic. Students are encouraged to bring any materials that they wish to experiment with. $10 materials fee is payable to the instructor during the first class. 6 Trompe l’Oeil Antonella Garofalo (Near Studio) WEDNESDAYS 9/21-10/26 1-4pm (FP14) M $145/NM $180 (All Levels) The art of trompe l’oeil (“fool the eye”) is based on the fact that the eye perceives reality more rapidly than the mind, and for the observer the pleasure lies in the discovery of the fraud. Rooms can be visually transformed through trompe l’oeil murals. In this class you will learn how to create visual illusions in your own home, using wall paint and acrylic as a medium. Topics for the lessons will include proportion, value, line, construction of the parts of the body using simple masses and simple anatomy. Learn techniques used for both fine artwork and for craft, such as printing on fabric like t-shirts. Take your favorite photographs or drawings and generate endless prints from a single work of art. We will be creating screens using hand-drawn, photographic and computer generated images. We will also cover linoleum and wood relief printing; a great way to create your own greeting cards. This community-minded, student-led class is meant to encourage and promote sharing of ideas and content to create animations. This class is very experimental and creative. Also, they will be given valuable color mixing techniques and recipes. This class is geared towards techniques in oil and acrylic paints, but watercolor and pastel artists are welcome. Jewelry Making with PMC Silver Lisa Bryan SATURDAY 10/8 9:30am-12:30pm FJW1 SATURDAY 11/19 9:30am-12:30pm FJW1 M $130/NM $140 (All Levels) (FJW1) In this 3-hour session you will learn to work with an exciting product called Precious Metal Clay, or PMC Silver. You will be making a pendant weaving, beads and earrings. PMC is easy to work with, even for the beginner. Once the clay is fired at a specific temperature, the clay component burns off and the result is a 99% fine silver piece of jewelry.
