Adding 47,000 square feet to the medical center and 66 patient rooms, one of the floors will be the new home of the Oklahoma Regional Heart Institute – Midwest Regional’s renowned heart program. “As our community’s healthcare needs grow and evolve, so do we. This project is a reflection of Midwest Regional’s commitment to meeting the needs of our community,” said Stan Holm, CEO of Midwest Regional Medical Center. According to Holm, the expansion project began last May and was completed on schedule. Designed with the input of Midwest Regional's patients and physicians, both the 7th & 8th floors are outfitted with new equipment, furniture and medical technology that will allow for an optimal patient experience. It will also be fully staffed with specialized nurses and state-of-the-art monitoring equipment. Midwest Regional's heart patients also benefit from the hospital's participation in a variety of clinical trials. These trials allow our patients the opportunity to receive the latest medications in the fight against heart disease. The seventh floor of the expansion project is solely dedicated to cardiac patients and the Oklahoma Regional Heart Institute, the cardiac practice at Midwest Regional. As the only local provider performing carotid stents, the new home of Oklahoma Regional Heart Institute will offer: Robotic surgery and complex vascular procedures, Diagnostic and interventional catheterizations, a three suite cardiovascular lab, Nuclear cardiology, Cardiac surgery, Defibrillator implants, Critical care nursing and cardiac rehab. “Our hospital was the first in the Oklahoma City metro area to perform a peripheral stent procedure and robotic surgery,” says Rich Wilmoth, Executive Director of Cardiovascular Services. “This expansion project is a natural step in continuing our 21-year legacy of providing quality healthcare for our patients, physicians and the communities we serve.” Complementing the Heart Institute is a newly-constructed eighth floor that is dedicated to medical and surgical patients. Access to a broader range of healthcare services allows Midwest Regional to better care for the “whole patient.” The Midwest City Chamber of Commerce is starting a group for young professionals in the eastern Oklahoma County area, Eastern Oklahoma County Young Professionals.
