It is a rallying force. It is inventive, intriguing and sometimes participatory. When presented outside, in a street or church square, along a riverbank, or on a quay or some other unusual setting, dance has the power to spark momentous encounters within a community. Jouer dehors comprises numerous performances selected for their artistic quality, originality and adaptability. La danse sur les routes du Québec, presenter of Jouer dehors, invites you to experience dance in places where people meet and to celebrate the soft light of this beautiful season! Gibson Muriva and his company invite everyone to celebrate women and other oppressed parties who are blocked from others and from determining their own destinies. Audiences will be immediately swept away by the energy of SISI*and the rich physical movements of traditional African dance combined with the precision of ballet, jazz and contemporary dance. Demanding change, yet expressing hope in the search for universality, the choreographer expresses a resonant message that seeks to find what unites us, rather than what divides us. *Means «sister» in Shona Muriva danse SiSi Choreographer: Gibson Muriva Performers: Christine Larivière, Gibson Muriva, Marie-Adeline Choquet, Julie Burel and one additional performer. This work, inspired by the river itself and featuring five dancers and four walk-ons, was made to be danced on the infinite horizons of other places. The choreographic arc is a voyage of discovery, looking at how the child explores the metaphorical universe through the game of pretending. Also available: Chantal Caron’s most recent in-situ performance: ÎLE DES AILES, a work for seven dancers featuring original music. This work evokes the merciless battle of the snow goose as it attempts to survive and reproduce. Fleuve | Espace danse 1.2.3. les pieds dans l’eau www.ladansesurlesroutes.com Série Solos is both a performance and a unique dance experience centred on the art of the solo. This project is a path, in which audience members are asked to follow dancers from one location to the next. It transforms the usual definition of a stage to help other aspects float to the surface: the spectator’s individual gaze and the personal journey of each during the performance. The sites, which are chosen beforehand with the organizers, can be either indoors or outdoors. Each solo is presented one after the other, and sometimes even simultaneously. Côté (music). Year created: 2011 Length: 30-60 minutes, according to the performance space. Required preparation: Based on the number of venues chosen, one or two on-site rehearsals will be required the day of or the day before the performance, to adapt the work to the space. Includes: Sound system comprising portable speakers, each connected to an iPod. Required area: Most public spaces are suitable: Gallery, hall, square, public area, etc. These spaces must, however, be safe and be approved by the company. Suggested ideas: Rehearsals can be made public and even advertised. This would also enable audience members to watch how the work is adapted to the space and to speak with performers (when appropriate). Excerpt: http://bit.ly/Qq9sZD or click here The concept behind Ecoute pour voir is based on the desire to break out of the formal performance space and humanize dance in a less formal setting. This brings the spectator closer and in an environment that he or she recognizes as being familiar. This works facilitates the union between the spectator and the dancer with an iPod and two sets of earphones. Presenting up to 16 simultaneous solos, Ecoute pour voir is still intimate and danced to the performer’s own selected music. Nomadic dancing, a stroll meant for two, dialogue in a close space... A moment that brings two people together through their common love of music. Connected by a pair of earphones, the spectator and dancer enjoy a unique experience every time. In a duo or quartet, dancers immerse themselves in the scenery, sipping a coffee or skimming a book. As various conversations unfold at neighbouring tables, our accomplices gradually upend the everyday with their poetic universe. Books become birds, barricades and stairs. Cups turn into glasses, spaceships and games of checkers. The dance, a vehicle to tell the history of humanity, begins as commonplace gestures that transform into a highly-evolved and refined choreography. After this spontaneous outburst, our dancers return to their places, sitting face-to-face, letting their performance echo quietly on. Excerpt: http://bit.ly/UcOujn or click here www.ladansesurlesroutes.com Once upon a time, a star lost her way and her whole world came crashing down. Set in an urban context, a factory produces deprogrammed Snow Whites, far away from the forest, her wicked stepmother and the seven dwarves. These princesses explore their surroundings and quickly adapt to the ebony-black and white-marble floors and the cherryred upholstery. In this work, Snow White is transformed into a contemporary figure, strong and unbridled, but also nervous and somewhat comatose. Rich with imagery, this choreographic project poses questions of identity and human disorientation with great humour. Ultimately, it uses its critical, yet wild vision, to awake the curiosity of us all. Manon fait de la danse Où est Blanche-Neige ? This choreography expresses the way we behave in society, including our human and urban facades, as well as the codes that keep up from screaming, running or dancing in public... The four dancers in FAÇADES test these social attitudes by taking over a public place and using their freedom and expressivity to transform it into a space for choreographic play, open to any kind of movement and image. The environment, walls and park benches act as a pretext for dance, as well as offering possibilities for physical and acrobatic movement. Channeling Aesop’s fable, the choreographer revisits the universal themes of competition, harmony, relationships and folly to affectionately snub the ant! Six dancers move across the stage in a series of tableaux vivants that reproduce daily life situations in a more playful and poetic light. Code Universel Alors, dansez maintenant! “Our first experience with contemporary dance and we are very happy with the public’s response!” Ville de Dorval Choreographer: Daniel Bélanger Performers: Maryse Damecour, Jean-François Duke, Fabien Piché, Eve Rousseau-Cyr, Mickaël Spinnhirny and Ariane Voineau. Utopic and filled with humour and human warmth, CHEZ SOI gives spectators both a unique experience about living together and a fun encounter with dance. Swirling around a mobile shelter than changes during the presentation, four dancers create a unique relationship with the audience through physical play that reveals the fragility, cruelty and beauty of the group dynamic. Exploring the notion of “feeling at home”, this performance invites spectators to experience an extraordinary moment in an otherwise familiar setting.
