Celebration of Fine Art enters its 22nd year
of connecting art lovers and artists under its
“big white tents” in Scottsdale. The event will
debut in a new location starting in 2012, just
1 mile east of the previous site. One hundred
artists from across the country will set up
working studios where they will showcase
their work for the 10-week juried event.
Visitors will see the works in progress
and learn what inspires the artists to create
their works of art as they stroll through the
40,000-square-foot facility. The passion that
inspires the artists is translated into the pieces
they create and the stories that they share.
Each artist in every studio has something
unique to offer.
The studio exhibit space surrounds an
open courtyard that will house up to 100
pieces of life-size and monumental sculpture.
All works are available to purchase and can be
shipped worldwide.
Art lovers will find artists at work every
day from January 14 through March 25; open
daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“As with impressionists, I am drawn to the light and
colors of fleeting moments, which I try to portray in
my representational paintings,” notes artist Becky
Joy. “My brushwork and colors vary according to the
scene and what I am trying to convey to the viewer.
My paintings have spontaneity in the brushwork, yet
a controlled look.”
Joy’s work has been juried in to national shows
for Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist
Society and American Women Artists. She also is
a member of Laguna Plein Air Painters, Plein Air
Artists Colorado, Arizona Plein Air Painters, and The
Southwest Plein Air Painters. Her work can be seen
in several galleries in California, Arizona, Texas, and
Wyoming.
In May, Joy will exhibit at the AZ Centennial
Celebration, the 5 C’s at Tempe, Arizona’s Gammage
Auditorium.

Located in Old Town Scottsdale, Xanadu Gallery
represents a number of contemporary artists.
Xanadu Gallery opened its doors on
September 10, 2001—the day before the
tragic events of 9/11 unfolded. As gallery
owners Jason and Carrie Horejs watched in
horror as the world seemed to fall apart, they
wondered what the future would hold for
their new gallery and if there would even be
an art market.
The next day a woman came into Xanadu
and explained that she had to turn off the TV
and buy something beautiful. Their first client
bought a bronze sculpture that day, and the
new owners realized that not only would there
be an art market, but that art would have an
important healing role for people in the days

and years ahead.
For the past decade Xanadu has provided
collectors worldwide with innovative, eclectic
contemporary art in a wonderful variety of
media. Xanadu recently launched an extensive
online gallery featuring established and
emerging artists from around the globe.
“We see exciting new trends in how
our collectors discover, connect with, and
collect art. The internet and social media are
playing an ever-increasing role. Thanks to
our wonderful clientele, art sales at Xanadu
continue to increase…,” says Xanadu Gallery
owner Jason Horejs.
The gallery’s best-selling artists continue to
be Dave Newman (exhibit opening February
23), Guilloume (exhibit opening March
22), John Horejs, Gary Price, John and Elli
Milan, Robert Burt, Linza, Penny Peterson,
Lorri Acott, Zingaro, and Jeanie Thorn.

“Wild Holly Gallery is a treat for the
senses,” says Holly Bergman of the
gallery. “Strolling along Easy Street in
downtown Carefree, the Wild Holly
Gallery beckons shoppers to come
a bit closer. The steel kinetic wind
sculpture turning in the breeze captures
the attention of passersby browsing
the shops. The 6-foot calla lily attracts
even the busiest of shoppers. Diego, the
black-and-white tuxedo cat, seals the
deal. He is the gallery mascot and greets
everyone at the door.
“Once inside this 4,700-squarefoot two-story gallery the question
becomes, ‘Where do I start?’” continues
Bergman. “Piece after piece, the gallery
is an explosion of tastefully displayed
art, representing the art of more than
90 local and nationally-acclaimed
artists. Paintings, dramatic sculptures,
an intriguing metal wall, trickling
fountains, sparkling glass, pottery,
and contemporary jewelry all become
a treat for the senses. Color, texture,
energy surround the art collector. Each
piece tells a story and the gallery staff
welcomes the chance to share each story
and artist. Yet, meandering through the
space, collectors can imagine what each
item represents. The look on the face
of the cowgirl in one painting, as she’s
puffing on a good cigar, seems to say,
‘I know what I want and I’m going to
get it.’ Her advice is well taken at this
eclectic gallery.”

Karen Budan has had a lifelong
desire to express herself through
art beginning with paint-bynumber kits at an early age, which
quickly moved to creating her
own compositions. Although
circumstances led her to pursue
a very successful first career in
education, Budan always kept alive
her art interest through classes and
workshops. After retiring, Budan
and her husband left Michigan and
relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona.
“When I am setting up a
painting composition, I am
seeking to capture the play of
light upon the subjects, which
will allow me to employ the
colors, shapes and textures of
the objects as tools to transform
from ‘everyday’ to ‘eye-catching’
in the eyes of the beholder,”
says Budan.
Budan is represented by
Amery Bohling Fine Art Gallery
in Scottsdale and the Sedona

in Sedona. She is a member
of several art organizations
including the International
Association of Pastel Societies,
the Pastel Society of America,
the International Guild of

Artists Association (of which she
is president), the Pastel Society
of New Mexico, and the Pastel
Society of the West Coast.
January 16 to 25, Budan will
have a solo show titled Captured
