I can’t believe it’s fall and the holiday
excitement will be here soon. CREW’s
holiday party is December 19th and will
serve as a great way to end the work
week, and for many of us, start time with
family. We will have a great gathering
once again at the Tanoan Country
Club that will be filled with good food,
friendship and lots of laughter. We have
selected Christina Kent as our charity
and I know CREW NM will step up once
again and provide wish list items and
gift cards that will bring joy to those less
fortunate.

a generous group over the years, not
only of monetary donations, but of your
precious time. Since our first blanket
drive in 2008, if was obvious that our
members understand that we must give
back in order to receive. We have helped
numerous organizations and CREW
members truly embrace the joy of giving.

this great event to celebrate all we have

October Regular Meeting
CREW’s very first speaker joined us again
at our October meeting. Jean Bernstein
made us laugh, nod our heads in wonder,
and smile in approval. She shared with
us the early history of Flying Star, and
how the clientele, employees and the
experience make Flying Star such a special
place. It’s that experience that guides her
decisions as to how to run the restaurants.

CREW Foundation Designs By Wine Fundraiser
Forty CREW members and guests participated in
CREW New Mexico’s 2nd Annual Network Foundation
fundraising event held on August 21st at Designs by
Wine. An instructor lead the group through a step-bystep process each creating their own “masterpiece”,
while enjoying good food, good music and time with
friends. With proceeds from the event and a match from
the CREW New Mexico chapter, $2,000 was donated
to the Foundation. The philanthropic arm of CREW
Network, the Foundation raises annually $500,000
to support college and graduate level scholarships,
industry research and career outreach programs.

CARNM Golf Tournament
 Michelle Franks, Studio Southwest Architects, Inc., and Keri
Stewart, Results4Business. Michelle wrote: “Keri came to our
offices for two half-days and met with the Principals and Project
Managers regarding public speaking. During these sessions we
learned SO much! Keri was diplomatic, yet powerful, in her ability
to get this group of architects to become self-aware and receptive

work, and we learned about the elements of a presentation that can

Committee Spotlight
Budget/Finance Committee
Sponsorship Committee
The Budget/Finance Committee always keeps their eye on the big
picture. Other than the Board of Directors, the Budget/Finance
Committee is the only committee that views how each piece of
the entire chapter fits together. From membership, to events,
regular meetings, administrative functions and the mentoring
program, each item is budgeted and planned for annually and
reviewed monthly.
Sponsors are a vital part of
CREW’s success. Because of
our sponsors, both monetary
and in-kind, CREW is able
to provide members with a
valuable experience while
keeping dues and event
costs reasonable. This year,
the Sponsorship Committee
has raised over $24,000
in monetary and in-kind
donations. Committee chair,
Justine Deshayes, shared that
this is the highest amount
raised in the history of CREW New Mexico.
Jane Pilger, the committee chair, is excited about a new agreement
that CREW New Mexico has just entered into with CREW Network.
With this agreement in place, CREW Network will handle all of
the chapter’s accounting services. “We are excited about the
change, and with this, the main goal will be to establish new
processes for reviewing the information provided by CREW
Network and to insure that the chapter is spending its money
wisely towards overall organization objectives” says Jane.
The Budget/Finance Committee would be a great fit for someone
wanting to understand how the entire organization works; a
general understanding of financial statements and accounting is
helpful. The Budget/Finance Committee meets a couple of times
each fall to prepare the budget for the following year. After that,
the committee corresponds via email with meetings scheduled
when topics for discussion arise. Jane would like to announce
three of the committee’s new members: Julie Kennelly with Wells
Fargo Bank, Stephanie Stefanov with Marron & Associates, and
Carol Wilkens with Burt & Company CPAs.
Justine says that her experience with the Sponsorship Committee
has been an excellent opportunity to interact with business
owners and that it has helped to polish her organizational and
communication skills. Committee members have the opportunity
to speak directly with Presidents and CFO to acquaint them about
CREW and to present a variety of sponsorship opportunities. Mary
Ann Ulik, with TRANE, will be the incoming 2015 sponsorship
chair and welcomes those interested in joining the committee! If
