Happy New Year to all the teachers in Sarawak.
The 2013 school year has been exceptional for all the teachers with a number
of historical events happening in the country. The most important event is
the launching of Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025. STU supports the
government’s move on this matter as it is high time to look into the education
system due to the rising international education standards, the needs of 21st
century and expectation of the public on education policy. It is hoped that with
the 11 strategic and operational shifts the government will be able to achieve
its vision.
This year the issue of internet access, the school infrastructure and facilities had
been in the limelight particularly in the rural areas of Sarawak. This includes the
roads and communication which need to be upgraded. However, despite all
these challenges Sarawak managed to improve their result in UPSR and PMR
with an increase number of As in various subjects especially in the rural schools.
Kudos to all the teachers and the education department of Sarawak for the
achievement. We are delighted that the long standing-issue, the integrated
salary scheme proposed by STU many years back , finally come into reality. This
includes the starting salary for masters and PHD holders. However, we still have
to look into the scheme especially for those who have obtained their masters
and PHD. I would like to thank the previous leaders for their struggle on various
matters pertaining to the teachers especially our members.
The year 2014 is another endeavor and journey of transformation in our education
calendar. With more allocation given by the government to the education
ministry, it is hoped that things will change especially in Sarawak. However, all
these effort will not come into reality if the schools and the society do not work
hand in hand. Every teacher must have the passion for teaching no matter
where and what he is. Success happens for those who make the best of how to
make things happen.
