HELP FOR THE HOMELESS
Each day the Garden Ministry of St.
John’s Church (downtown) provides
a sandwich and water to the homeless people who live in the alleys and
on the streets of downtown Indy. We
would like to provide cookies to this
ministry. If you would like to donate
cookies (either store-bought or home
-made) , please bring them on the weekend
of September 12-13th, we are asking that cookies be
dropped off in the vestibules before or after
Masses. Thank you for supporting this ministry!

DISTRIBUTION CENTER
VOLUNTEERS
Please join us September 12, 2015 from 8
am – Noon at 1201 E Maryland St. to help
serve struggling families in Indianapolis. First
time volunteers are much appreciated, and
there will be repeat volunteers present to
show you what to do. Call Larry Heil at 6577093 if you have questions.
Dear Friends of Holy Spirit,
On this Labor Day Weekend,
I invite all of us to pray for those
people who cannot find adequate
employment. As a priest, I have never had to
worry about this(!), but so many people live on
the edge of survival because of no employment
or insufficient employment. It is very difficult to
hear the stories of people who come to the
office, being either homeless or close to it. As
we give thanks to God for our work, present or
past, let us remember in prayer those who
struggle greatly in this area.
Our Intercultural Office of the Archdiocese is
hosting a series of ethnic dinners. In July the
ethnic experience was from Vietnam, August
was from Korea and September will be from
Mexico. People who have attended these have
been very pleased. I encourage you to consider
the next one on September 12th at the Intercultural Center (the old St. Bernadette’s). Call 317236-1562 or m [email protected] .
The library in the school is completed
following the flooding this summer. Drywall and
flooring were replaced, a sub-pump was put in,
everything was painted and bookcases were
repaired and put on rollers. It looks great!!
Thank you to the many people who helped with
this endeavor, both paid and volunteers!

New Bible Stud
The next Bible studies begin the
week of Sep. 14th. They will be
offered three times:
Monday evenings beginning
on Sept. 14, from 7 to 9pm
Thursday afternoons beginning Sept. 17,
from 12:30 to 2pm
Thursday evenings beginning
Sept. 17, from 7 to 9pm
All three sessions will be a 10 week study on the book of
James. Please join us at any of these sessions as we
study the book of James. James is one of the most
practical books of the Bible. Like the book of Proverbs, it
is a book of wisdom, a collection of teachings on issues
faced by ordinary Christians in everyday life. These
teachings speak loudly to all those who feel torn between
the competing demands of this world and their faith. The
study offers "pearls of wise living" by applying the wisdom
of James to the present day. For anyone who has
struggled to live a truly Christian life, James offers a
wealth of practical solutions for handling and even
sanctifying everyday circumstances.

Honduras Free Will
Offerin
Great News! You can now make our
Honduras Free Will Offerin online!
Have you ever found yourself without any cash or not the
right denomination of cash or you were out of town that
weekend in order to make your Honduras Free Will Offering on the third weekend of the month? Problem solved.
You can now make your contribution online through the
Holy Spirit web site just like you make your regular weekly
contributions or your Renovation fund payments. It is simple to go to the Holy Spirit site and choose “Giving”, log
in, and select “Honduras Free Will Offering” under the
payment type you wish to make. You can do it manually
each month or put it on a recurring basis monthly for your
convenience. This also captures your donation for your
Holy Spirit tax donation records. If you still prefer to give
cash monthly contributions in the baskets after mass on
the third weekend, we will still be there to gladly receive
your gift and express our appreciation for our friends at
San Francisco de Asís parish in Texiguat, Honduras. As
always, may God bless you for your generosity!

23RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
SUBSTANCE ADDICTION
MINISTRY (SAM)
National Recovery Month is held
every September to educate Americans
that substance use treatment and mental health services can enable those with a mental
and/or substance use disorder to live a healthy and
rewarding life. Recovery is a process of change
through which individuals improve their health and
wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach
their full potential.
Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by
those in recovery, just as we celebrate health improvements made by those who are managing other
health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes,
asthma, and heart disease.
This observance reinforces the positive message
that behavioral health is essential to overall health,
prevention works, treatment is effective, and people
can and do recover.from www.samhsa.gov, Substance Abuse

One of the few prayers that we know that Jesus
prayed was a prayer for unity among all believers
(John 17:21). The vast number of Christian
denominations would suggest that this prayer is a
long way from being realized. However, we can find
unity when we serve side by side motivated by the
most powerful unifying force of all – love. Find out
how you can serve those in need alongside people
of varying faith traditions at:

Join in Praying for Those Afflicted with Addictions...
Lord God in Heaven Creator of all things. You have all power to
heal those who are struggling with the devastating disease of
addiction. We pray God you would intercede in their lives and
flood their eyes with light, So they can know and understand the
hope to which You have called them. Give them strength and
courage take away their fears, grief, anxieties, and resentments.
Send your word God, heal them, rescue them from the pit of
destruction. Allow them to live and not die. Heal their broken
hearts and bind up their wounds curing all of their pains and
sorrows. Allow them to hear your call, allow them the grace to
never give up and to always stay focused on you. Fill their
hearts with your word, for your word is life to all who find it and
health for the whole body, mind and spirit. I pray these things in
Jesus Holy Name...Amen

School Volunteers
Holy Spirit School is back in session. Our School Volunteers have
had a wonderful year working with
students in the K-3 classrooms
during the 90 minute reading
block. We read to or with the students once a week
or once every other week. We also had volunteers
working with students in grades 4-6 in reading and
math. Besides our work in school our group also
occasionally meets for breakfast or lunch. Working
as a school volunteer is a great way to help Holy
Spirit School and spend time with a great group of
parishioners. If you would be interested in joining our
School Volunteer Group, please call Judy Miller at
317-891-2752 or send an email to

PARTICIPANTS IN EUCHARISTIC ADORATION FOR
FIRST FRIDAYS AND LENT FRIDAYS NEEDED
First Friday Adoration is the ministry of spending
time in prayer in the presence of our Lord Jesus
present in the Holy Eucharist which is exposed in
the monstrance for adoration. We have adoration
on the first Friday of each month and also every

and intimate time with our Lord. He longs for our
presence and devoted company. It is a joy and
blessing to spend some time in His loving
presence. You may participate by signing this
form and letting us know your most convenient
time to come. Adoration takes place in our
chapel. You may stay for a few minutes, an hour,
or as long as you desire. We start First Friday
Adoration of each month and every Friday during
lent, after the 8:30am Mass, and conclude at
5:15pm with the Benediction, before the 5:30
Mass.
If interested in this ministry, please fill out the form
