th
Every year the Chamber hosts the 4 of July, it is a
special responsibility, the 4th represents the birth of
our nation and sometimes we can’t lose track of the
importance of this day. We must think about the lives
that were lost and the sacrifices that were made to
keep our freedom.
The City of Pismo Beach is a wonderful partner for the 4th of July and we thank them
for their help. We also need our Chamber Members and community’s support as
well. The best way to help is volunteering your time and also to get people to buy
the July 4th VIP ticket. The VIP pass provides special seating on the Pismo Pier to
experience the fireworks up close and personal.
Let’s all work together to make this 4th of July the best celebration possible!

The minute you drive under the portico at Best Western Casa Grande Inn, you are transported to
“Early California”. This Mission Style property has art, furnishings, and the atmosphere of a by-gone era.
Guests checking-in marvel at the grand cathedral lobby. They stroll along garden paths, past a picturesque
bridge to shopping and dining. With 114 rooms, including 29 suites, families and groups enjoy the spacious
rooms, huge resort style pool & spa, waterfall, saunas, and free access to Kennedy Fitness Center. There is a
deluxe continental breakfast, and cookies in the evening. The hotel was built in 1985, and Ray Bunnell
purchased the property in 2000. With 30 friendly staff members (1/2 with over 10 years at the hotel), they are
pet friendly, cater to bus tours, offer mid-week special rates and winter shopping packages at the outlet mall.
The pond next door has a resident beaver, and there’s a wonderful walking trail thru the Oak trees close by.
With meeting rooms available for small groups, consider Best Western Casa Grande as our local spot to get
back to “Early California”.

“MARTY’S PISMO BEACH COMMUNITY CORNER”
SERVICES FOR VETERANS OF SOUTH COUNTY,
and "A Surfing Opportunity"
We all appreciate our veterans, and the San Luis Obispo County Veterans Service Office, headquartered in San Luis
Obispo, is reaching into South County to help deal with many veterans' issues. The Veterans Service Office has a
satellite office at the Pismo Beach Vets Hall. A Veterans Office staff person is available on Thursday afternoons by
appointment (required) to assist area veterans. They should call 781-5766 to make the appointment. Veterans Services
periodically has a booth at the Pismo Beach Farmers Market, where they can let veterans know about all of the benefits
and services available to them from the local, state, and federal levels. In addition, veterans can make an appointment for
a Friday visit with a Veterans Office staff person in borrowed space at the Nipomo Library. Again, call 781-5766 to
schedule an appointment.
The Veterans Service Office has partnered with a local non profit, AmpSurf, to hold a Vet Surf every Thursday morning.
This is available for vets who already surf, and also for those who want to learn to surf. Vets who already surf can just
come down to the beach in Pismo Beach on Thursday mornings, from 8:30-10:30 AM, at Addie St. near the Sea Venture
Hotel. Those who want to learn should call the office at 781-5766 by Wednesday of each week, and let the office know
that they want to come out. The number of vets who can be provided with the learning experience is limited to three (3)
each week. Anyone interested can come down to visit the Vet Surf Program or the booth at the Farmers Market. For
more information about the veterans services available in SLO County, visit the website at www.slovets.org
