FROM THE DESK OF THE CEO
PETER CANDELA
The Chamber is preparing for the rest of the year’s
activities beginning with 4th of July. This year will
prove to be interesting. Paso Robles and Morro Bay
will not have their own fireworks displays, so Pismo
Beach fireworks may be very well attended. Last year Pismo Beach attracted over
100,000 people. This year, who knows, but you can bet the town and beach will
be crowded. One other thing about the 4th to keep in mind, the perfect place to

see the fireworks will be on the Pismo Beach pier. Purchase the VIP ticket to get
access to the best seat in the house and delightful treats, coffee and hot chocolate. Wow what a deal…..all for only $25. This event will sell out, please get your
ticket early. The 4th is always a very labor intensive event and we could use your
help. So if you would like to volunteer, please contact the Chamber and let us
know how to

If you have been in downtown Pismo Beach lately you more than likely noticed
some changes.. The City is starting the revitalization efforts, new trash containers,
the sidewalks have been resurfaced, and new lighting is on its way. With any luck
the new hotel developments will start construction the end
of this year or the beginning of the next. Pismo Beach is

BUSINESS OF THE MONTH
TOMASKO’S TAFFY SHOP
Roger & Kim Tomasko
711 Dolliver Street
805-773-1115
Tomasko’s Taffy Shop has been making homemade candy for 27
years in Pismo Beach. Roger is the candy maker and his lovely
wife Kim does the baking and merchandising. The shop was originally in Cypress
Landing, and when the drug store closed on the corner of Pomeroy and Dolliver in
May 1999, they relocated. Tomasko’s not only sells handmade salt water taffy, they
make cookies, fudge, candy apples, and brownies. Sno-cones are always a summer
favorite, along with Doc Bernstein’s ice cream, soft drinks, and fresh brewed
espresso. The store also has beach toys, hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts, jewelry and
miscellaneous souvenir items. Open 7 days a week, you will find Roger making his
special chocolate and conversing with longtime customers that make
Tomasko’s their first stop in town.

Andy and Carin McKay recently moved to Pismo Beach from the
Orange County beach area and noticed a void in town, no donuts! With their entrepreneurial
spirit and a perfect location, they opened their shop with a simple premise, great coffee and
unique flavored donuts. Carin starts at midnight hand decorating and coming up with a
changing menu that might feature maple bacon, blood orange passion fruit, or their signature
“strawberry clamshell” donuts. Surfside usually sells out every day, so come early for a good
selection. If you want a sample, try the “fritter bites”. You’ll find Andy behind the counter, or
surfing by the pier (his other passion). The 3 baristas make Stumptown Coffee from Portland,
Oregon; espresso, cold brewed coffee on draft and 8 different tea choices.
Buy a dozen donuts and get 15% off.
