We recognize that lunch boxes, water bottles and student jackets are expensive and students
need to be responsible for their personal items. Parents to please label student items and
have students check in the office for lost items. Our school continues to collect more unclaimed and unidentified items that are left at the playground after lunch recess daily. Items
clearly marked with a student name and teacher name are returned to a student. Parents
and children should claim lunch boxes, water bottles and jackets in the Main Office by Friday, October 2.
Items left in the office after that time will be donated to a charitable cause.

Student Report:
Volleyball: On Thursday, September 12, 2015, we had our Radford Complex Volleyball Tournament held at Radford High School Gymnasium. We are proud of our Volleyball team with their winning record fo 5 wins and 1 loss.
Family Fair: On Friday September 18, our school had a Family Fun Fair held from 4-7 pm. There
was food, games, prizes, and fun. Each grade level was responsible for running a game. We would
like to thank the firemen, the paramedics, and the policemen who came to volunteer their services
and equipment. The Family Fun Fair was a great way to spend time with friends, family and teachers.
Book Fair: On Friday, September 18 our school Fall Book Fair was held in the Library from 2-6 pm.
It gave the students a chance to buy books and get some stationery items. We thank the PTA for
coordinating the Family Fun Fair and to the Makalapa Leadership Team for the Book Fair.
Student Council Calendar of Events: The Student Council representatives met and discussed
ideas and plans for one activity for second, third and fourth quarter. Some ideas discussed include
a Food Drive, Clothing Drive, McDonald’s McTeacher Night with the Staff and Spirit Week.

The Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA)
scores for students in Grades 3-6 in Spring
2015 were shared. This is the first year that the
SBA was administered to Hawaii children. The
results of this new assessment show that a majority of our students need to improve their critical thinking, problem solving and gain a deeper
understanding of Language Arts and Math concepts. Teachers will focus on identifying and
providing appropriate instruction that meets the
needs of each child. Please provide a quiet
study time and area at home for students
homework. Learn about SBA and help your
child prepare to take the test. Visit http://
