AUTHENTICITY
Since 1921 VENINI is based in Murano, the worldwide famous island where,
since 600 years, glass is manufactured. The company is one of the major
realities concerning research in glass and it is considered a landmark in
the world of art. Today, as 90 years ago, VENINI is a constantly developing
laboratory, a place where passion for glass and fascination of the Furnace are
able to enchant and thrill everyone and where ideas and intuitions, coming
from international designers, come true.

A unique emotion arises when refined sand is mixed with precious minerals
and when the Masters give life to drawings and cultural expressions, coming
from creative minds. there is a Genius Loci inside VENINI and it highlights a

ella mia memoria, sono da sempre depositati i fantasmi della inconfondibile
identità della Venini.
Quando lavoro per questa nobile azienda cerco sempre di collegarmi al mistero
degli archetipi che hanno condotto a un così preciso stile, lungo una così lunga
storia, e cerco di provarne una interpretazione.
Mi sembra che il gusto Venini sia frutto di un magico dosaggio creatosi nel tempo,
fra alcune tecniche esclusive, alcuni eccezionali artisti inventori di forme, e la scelta
di certi colori. Questa tradizione e questi confini sono la magica formula di Venini.
L'hortus conclusus Venini fa parte delle meraviglie dell'umanità. Calma e saggezza
di un chiaro artigianato, puro e intatto nel tempo, incorruttibile dalla violenza delle
mode, un esempio e una testimonianza di perfezione.

When I work for this noble company, I always try to connect to the mystery of
archetypes that led to such a precise style with such a long history, and I seek to
interpret that. I believe that the Venini taste is the fruit of an enchanted mix, created
over time, of a few exclusive techniques, a handful of exceptional artists who were
inventors of forms, and a predilection for certain colors.
This tradition and these boundaries are Venini’s magic formula.
Its hortus conclusus (enclosed garden) is one of humanity’s wonders. It contains

Le Origini
The origins
“Cappellin Venini & C.”: così il nome Venini compare per la prima volta a Murano. È il 1921
quando due personaggi straordinari entrano nel mondo delle vetrerie muranesi. Sono
l’antiquario veneziano Giacomo Cappellin e Paolo VENINI, un avvocato milanese con
una lontana tradizione familiare nella lavorazione del vetro. Sotto la direzione artistica
del pittore Vittorio Zecchin, la Cappellin Venini & C. pone le basi di quell’identità stilistica
che ancora oggi la contraddistingue: evasione dagli schemi tradizionali, apertura verso
le avanguardie artistiche, padronanza delle tecniche di lavorazione, grazie all’apporto
dei migliori maestri vetrai dell’isola. Negli anni successivi la società espone con successo
presso mostre ed esposizioni di arti decorative, in Italia e all’estero. Nel 1925, dalla
separazione di Paolo Venini da Giacomo Cappellin, nasce la V.S.M. Venini & C. che, sotto la
direzione artistica dello scultore Napoleone Martinuzzi, gran conoscitore del vetro d’arte,
introduce e sperimenta nuove idee e nuove tecniche. A partire dal 1932 Paolo Venini
assume un ruolo sempre più importante nella direzione artistica dell’azienda. Stringe
innovative collaborazioni con artisti, architetti e designer dell’epoca come Tomaso Buzzi,
Carlo Scarpa, Lancia, Pulitzer e, nel dopoguerra, Gio Ponti e Fulvio Bianconi. Accanto
all’originale produzione artistica nascono nuove categorie merceologiche: i famosi
lampadari, spesso destinati a grandi opere pubbliche e private.
La Crescita
Nel 1959, con la scomparsa dell’avvocato Paolo Venini, la direzione
dell’azienda passa all’architetto Ludovico Diaz de Santillana, che riprende lo
spirito di ricerca del fondatore. Un tratto caratterizzante della storia aziendale
è la collaborazione con protagonisti del mondo dell’arte e del design, fatto
innovativo per la storia del vetro di Murano. Ciò porta un elevato livello di
sperimentazione non solo nello stile dei prodotti, ma anche nell’applicazione delle
diverse tecniche produttive. Nel 1985 la Venini viene rilevata dalle famiglie Gardini e
Ferruzzi. Venini riprende con nuovo vigore la collaborazione con gli artisti e gli architetti
contemporanei. A partire da gennaio 1998 la Società Venini S.p.A. viene acquistata
dal gruppo Royal Scandinavia. Nel dicembre 2001 Venini entra a far parte del gruppo
Italian Luxur y Industries, società che fa capo agli imprenditori Giancarlo e Gabriella
Chimento, Giuliano e Guglielmo Tabacchi. La nuova proprietà riprende l’ideale testimone
dell’identità aziendale, costituito da progettualità, innovazione, sperimentazione, ricerca
e passione.

VENINI approda al ventunesimo secolo con un bagaglio di esperienze creative e produttive
che la rendono “IL” BRAND delle più straordinarie realizzazioni in vetro soffiato e lavorato a mano.
Hanno contribuito a rinnovare e ampliare la gamma esistente collaborazioni artistiche con nomi
del design, dell’arte e dell’architettura. Tra questi: Tadao Ando, Gae Aulenti, Emmanuel Babled,
Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby, Mario Bellini, Fernando & Humberto Campana, Pierre Charpin,
Sandro Chia, Diego Chilò, Paolo Deganello, Rodolfo Dordoni, Established & Sons, Bruno Gecchelin,
Ben Jakober & Yannick Vu, Harri Koskinen, Gabriele Magro, Alessandro Mendini, Luca Nichetto,
Fabio Novembre, Gaetano Pesce, Gio Ponti, Leonardo Ranucci, Mimmo Rotella, Timo Sarpaneva,
Carlo Scarpa, Tobia Scarpa, Ettore Sottsass, Versace, Giorgio Vigna, Massimo Vignelli, Tapio
Wirkkala, Toni Zuccheri. Questi artisti, in collaborazione con il “soffio” dei Maestri Vetrai di Venini
hanno fatto nascere una collezione unica per importanza nell’arte vetraria, presente in molti libri
ed esposta nei musei d’arte di tutto il mondo, dal Moma di New York alla Foundation Cartier di
Parigi al Victoria and Albert Museum di Londra.
Oggi
“Cappellin Venini & C.”: that’s the original starting name. We are in 1921 when two
extraordinary persons enter the glass-factory world in Murano. They are the Venetian
antiquarian (antiques dealer) Giacomo Cappelin and Paolo VENINI, a Milanese lawyer
with an old family tradition in glass. Under the artistic direction of the painter Vittorio
Zecchin, Cappellin Venini & C. lays the foundations of that “identity style” that still
distinguish it: evade the traditional patterns, opening to the avan-garde art, mastery
in techniques due to the best glass-masters of the island.
In the following years, the company exhibited with success in many decorative art exhibitions
in Italy and abroad. In 1925 it broke up and a new company was founded: VSM Venini & C;
that, under the artistic direction of Napoleone Martinuzzi, with a great knowledge of glass art,
that introduced and tested new ideas and new techniques. Since 1932 Paolo Venini plays an
increasingly importance in the artistic direction and forges important collaborations artists,
architecs and designers as Tomaso Buzzi, Carlo Scarpa, Lancia, Pulitzer, and after the second
World War, with Gio Ponti and Fulvio Bianconi. Original artistic production alongside new categories
of products such as the famous chandelier, often set in public and private locations.
The growth
In 1959, after the death of the lawyer Paolo Venini, the direction of the Company goes to the
architect Ludovico Diaz de Santillana, who reflected the spirit of innovation and research of its
founder. A feature of company’s history is the collaboration with the protagonists of “art and design
world”, initially unconnected to the art of glass. This very unusual fact in the history of Murano
glass brings a high level of innovation and experimentation, not only in style but above all in the
application of several techniques. In 1985 Venini changed the ownership: Gardini and Ferruzzi
families. The company starts over the collaboration with artists and architects more vigorously.
From January 1998, Venini S.p.A. was acquired by the Royal Scandinavia. In December 2001
Venini joins Italian Luxury Industries, an Italian company headed by the entrepreneurs Giancarlo
and Gabriella Chimento, Giuliano and Guglielmo Tabacchi. They resume the corporate identity,
as an ideal “baton”, of planning, innovating experimenting, research and passion.
Important collaborations
Venini enters the twenty-first century with a wealth of experience and creative production that
make it “THE” BRAND of the most extraordinary achievements in the handmade blown glass.
Those qualities has renovated and expanded the artistic collaborations with important “names” in
design, art and architecture; among these: Tadao Ando, Gae Aulenti, Emmanuel Babled, Edward
Barber & Jay Osgerby, Mario Bellini, Fernando & Humberto Campana, Pierre Charpin, Sandro

books and exhibited in the most beautiful museums of the world, from the MOMA in NY, to the
Foundation Cartier in Pars and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Today
VENINI commercial network is made up of flagship stores and more than 800 dealers all over
the world. VENINI , with its furnace, is the biggest glass factory in Murano: 5 glass masters - 80
employees – 500 tons of silica sand per annum – 90 colors formulas - 15 furnaces - 18 grinding
machines
VENINI oggi dispone di una sua rete distributiva costituita dalle boutique monomarca e dagli
oltre 800 rivenditori in tutto il mondo. VENINI e la sua fornace rappresenta la più grande realtà
artigianale di Murano: 5 maestri vetrai - 80 dipendenti - 500 tonellate di sabbia silicea lavorata
all’anno - 90 ricette colori - 15 forni accesi e 18 apparecchi per la molatura.

L’unicità della produzione VENINI è data dai
procedimenti artigianali seguiti per tutte le fasi
della lavorazione. Alcune sfumature o bollicine
che si posso riscontrare sul vetro evidenziano
che ogni opera è realizzata a mano.
Ogni prodotto è firmato, alcune collezioni sono
prodotte in numero limitato.

VENINI è un marchio registrato
• A causa della specificità delle tecniche
artistiche del vetro di Murano la ripetibilità delle
riproduzioni dei colori nel tempo e in diversi lotti
di produzione non è garantita. I colori possono
avere delle variazioni.
• In alcuni colori come il colore rosso si possono
avere diverse tonalità ma non possono essere
attribuibili ad un processo di lavorazione poco
accurato ma sono dovute alla lavorazione
artiginale eseguita in tutte le sue fasi. Tutto ciò
rende ogni Vetro Venini un esemplare unico.
Le dimensioni sono indicative, a causa dell’alta
manualità e artigianalità del processo.

The uniqueness of VENINI’s production is given
by handcraft procedures followed during all
working processes. Some shades or bubbles,
that might be found on the glass, underline
that every single piece is entirely handmade
and even if similar to the others, each single
piece is unique. Each product is signed, some
collections are limited editions.
• Because of the specificity of the Murano
glass techniques repetitiveness of colours is not
guaranteed during time and in different type of
products. Colors can vary.
• In some colours, such as red, the different
shades should not be ascribed to a lack of care
or attention, but simply to the skilled craftwork
performed at every creative stage. Weights and
dimensions are as a rough guide, due to high
manuel skills and craftsmanship.
Therefore weights and dimensions can be
subject to alteration from one piece to another.
This is a feature of VENINI product, that make
every single piece unique.
