PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, while progress has been significant in reducing deaths from heart
disease, it is still the number one killer of both women and men; and
WHEREAS, cardiovascular diseases are the nation’s leading cause of death and
costliest disease with direct and indirect costs estimated to be $312.6
billion; and
WHEREAS, between 1999 and 2009, the rate of deaths from cardiovascular diseases
fell 32.7 percent, but still accounted for nearly one in three deaths in the
nation; and
WHEREAS, over 12,000 Alabamians die from cardiovascular diseases each year;
and
WHEREAS, the American Heart Association’s 2020 impact goal seeks to improve
the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent while
reducing deaths from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent
through research, population and community level interventions, public
health and policy measures; and
WHEREAS, efforts of the American Heart Association encourage citizens to help
save lives by calling 9-1-1 if symptoms occur, becoming trained in CPR,
and encouraging comprehensive automated external defibrillator
(AED) programs in their communities; and
WHEREAS, the American Heart Association is celebrating February, 2013 as
American Heart Month and promoting education and awareness by
encouraging citizens to learn the warning signs of heart attack and
stroke.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Schmitz, Mayor of the City of Dothan, do hereby
proclaim February, 2013 as
"AMERICAN HEART MONTH"
in the City of Dothan, Alabama and urge all its citizens to recognize the critical
importance of tools and skills that will increase survival rates from cardiac arrest.
By incorporating these tools into aggressive programs, we can save thousands of
lives each year.

RESOLUTION NO. ________________
WHEREAS, the City of Dothan currently uses the Northside Cinema One Building located at
3595 Ross Clark Circle, Dothan, Alabama as the polling location for District 6B; and
WHEREAS, that building has been sold and is no longer available to be used as a polling
location in the City of Dothan Municipal Election; and
WHEREAS, space is available at the Wiregrass Commons Mall Community Room located at
900 Commons Drive with ample parking space; and
WHEREAS, this change will in no way affect the pool of voters who vote in District 6B.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of
Dothan, Alabama, as follows:
Section 1. That the current polling place in District 6B, specifically the Northside Cinema One
Building, be relocated to the Wiregrass Commons Mall Community Room.
Section 2. That upon approval of the Justice Department this resolution shall be effective for the
election to be held on August 6, 2013.
Section 5. The City Clerk and/or the City Attorney is hereby authorized and directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the United States Justice Department for approval.

WHEREAS, the Dothan Municipal Housing Code Abatement Board has a
vacancy due to the death of Wallace Cooley.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of the
City of Dothan, Alabama as follows:
Section 1. That Steve Hodges is hereby appointed as a member of the Dothan
Municipal Housing Code Abatement Board to fulfill the unexpired term of Wallace
Cooley expiring July 13, 2013.
