Treasurers Report….
March is always a strong month for the Association and this year did not
disappoint; although we fell just short ($2,000) of the expected $66,000 gain due
to the timing of an accounting adjustment which I will describe more fully later.
The general category which includes Administration, Loop Road, Maintenance
and Security started the year about $14,000 better than budget. While there are
no major items contributing to this result, I am pleased to tell you that legal costs
have settled down and was about $2,000 less than budgeted.
The accounting adjustment I referred to above dealt with the timing of the March
water bill and had a major effect on the golf portion of our budget. Normally we
get the water bill we pay in March early enough to allocate a portion of it to
February’s costs as our auditors have instructed us to do, but we received the bill
too late to do that this year. As a result Golf for March shows a $15,000 worse
than budget; had we been able to apportion the water bill as we normally due,
the result would have been more like a $10,000 better than budget. So golf is off
to a good start in the new fiscal year. I should note that if the water bill had been
apportioned as usual, the year end results for golf in 15-16 would have been
reduced from a +$77,000 to something closer to $52,000.
Food and Beverage was basically on budget with both revenue and expense exceeding budgeted amounts and the gain of about $6,000 falling $1,000 short of
the budget expectation.
The reserve account balance is a very healthy $3,481,249; a number we expect
will drop considerably as we move forward on the golf course perimeter fence
work.
Aged owner balances are at a very low level, with outstanding assessments less
than 1%.
Available cash balances are up somewhat reflecting the typical gain in February
and March as homeowners prepay assessments and golf memberships.

Dear Residents,
The restaurant/bar committee has been meeting for the planned renovation in
September. There are forms available at the front desk for any resident having
suggestions for this project to provide their input to the committee.
Don’t forget to make your Mother’s Day reservations. We already have a large number of sign-ups
so call now and don’t miss out. Easter was a sell-out with 275 people.
The Los Prados Club Championship is in May. Please participate in this event as it is always a fun
time!
As a reminder for Memorial Day, the front desk will be closed and it is also a no vendor holiday.
Finally, please pay attention to the rule change regarding overnight parking on the street outlined in
the newsletter. We have had many complaints about violations and will be strictly enforcing this
policy.

President’s Column...
I want to thank everyone that attended our monthly meeting on Tuesday April 19 th.
The first thing I would like to comment about is the ombudsman information about being a
self-managed association and not being controlled by an outside Management Company. We
would like to prepare a bid to obtain quotes on hiring a CAM consultant and still maintain our
self-management position.
We had a lot of good comments about the detention/retention basin. Now we have to proceed
to work to work on the information the survey provided. I believe it is going to take a lot of
work and compiling information and cost. I want to thank everyone that served on the
committee.
The fencing project is going to take a lot of discussion and reviewing bids for the base retention walls for the fences before we can continue this project. We wish to thank all for their
comments concerning the fencing project.
The restaurant and bar renovation is coming along nicely and been receiving a lot of suggestions. We now have consider when and how to proceed. I believe this project will help and enhance the appearance of our clubhouse and hope to increase outside parties and banquets.
I hope to see more participation in our next meeting scheduled for May 17 th.

set up for you.

DETENTION/RETENTION BASIN COMMITTEE REPORT
April 19, 2016
In January of 2016 the board of directors put out a request to the community for
volunteers to serve on a committee to evaluate the use of the detention/retention
property with the best interest of the entire Los Prados community in mind.
The committee members that are participating in this endeavor are:
John Kalish, Tony Piccolella, Charlie Hansen, Linda Ericson, Susan Rollins, Art
Franco, Robbie Robertson, Margie MacKenzie, Jerry Wyszomirski, and June Byron. Joyce Paciolla as board liaison
The committee decided that our first step needed to be a survey of the people most
impacted by any suggestions or ideas that might be pursued. Therefore, one of the
first steps was for us to determine all homes within 500 feet of the outer perimeter
of the basin and contact those homeowners to determine what changes to the property the majority of them would support.
Our goal was to reach out to as many of the homeowners as possible. We did this
in two ways. The first was a door to door visit of all homes occupied by homeowners and second was a letter sent out to all absentee owners.
As a result, we received an 80% response.
The top three ideas that these homeowners provided to us were:
1. 48 % RESIDENTIAL UNITS/SENIOR VILLAGE
2. 21% LANDSCAPE PROPERTY WITH TREES/ ROCKS
3. 16% LEAVE AS IS
These are the committee findings, thus far. It is up to the Board to set the course
going forward
In the opinion of one of the respondents, “the current state of that property is far
below the quality of the rest of Los Prados” and we concur. It is visible to all that
travel our circle and Decatur Boulevard and for better or worse is a reflection on
our community. The boards’ interest in seeing improvement of that property is to
be commended.

Pool Rules
Pool furniture is the property of the association and is not to be removed from
pool area at any time.
No glass containers or bottles (including lotions) are permitted in the pool
area.
Life guards are not provided; therefore, use of pool is at your own risk.
No solo swimming is allowed.
Children under the age of 14 years must be accompanied by an adult. Children
over the age of 14 must have a valid Los Prados ID.
Appropriate swimming attire must be worn at all times. No “cut offs” are allowed.
Pool hours are posted at each pool. No activity is permitted at the pools other
than during pool posted hours.
Operation and use of swimming pools are subject to regulations issued by Nevada
State Board of Health and Clark County Health Department, which are posted at
pools. Additional rules for the Family Pool Hot Tub are posted on the fence
beside the Spa.
All children that require diapers must wear rubber pants and must wear an
appropriate swim suit.
Each homeowner is issued a key when they register and no one should open the
pool gate for people coming to the pool without a key.
The security officer’s can ask the name and address of people entering the pool
to verify they are a homeowners or guests of a homeowner. Homeowners must
have a valid Los Prados ID.
Homeowners are responsible for the actions of their guests.
All coolers and closed containers are subject to search by Security.

CEDAR POINT VILLAGE NEWS
The Quarterly HOA meeting was held on April 5, 2016 in the Inverness Room at the Los
Prados Clubhouse.
The meeting was called to order by President Irv Kalet, present were Treasurer Trudy Rimer,
Secretary Jim Manos, and Director Larry Sonin, absent was Director Toni Trombecky.
Others present Gerald Northfield Community Manager.
Discussions continue as to the problems with the current landscaping company. The
landscape committee chair Edith Sweetwine presented an account of the lots and what type
(lawn, rock, astro turf) of landscaping is currently in the front and back yards. The committee
and management will meet to discuss the development of a Scope of Work/RFP, selecting
qualified service provider bidders and aid in distributing RFP. This will hopefully be completed prior to the next quarterly meeting in July.
There was no new business and the meeting was adjourned.
Remember when you wish to do any changes to your property such as landscaping, painting
replacing garage doors etc., you must fill out the forms to be submitted to the ACC of Los
Prados. NO WORK CAN BE PERFOMED ON THE OUTSIDE OF YOUR PROPERTY
WITH OUT ACC APPROVAL. If you have a compliance complaint it must be filed with Los
Prados. You have the right to appear before the Executive Board of Los Prados either at
their closed executive session (the second Tuesday of the month at 4:00 PM) or at the open
meeting (the third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm) as long as you fill out a request form.

LOS PRADOS WOMENS NINERS
Las Vegas weather has been very cooperative to our Niners during the month of May. It has been great
seeing so many of our golfers on the course before the heat sets in and some of our ladies head for cooler
climates.
Our charity project for this year was a huge success. We voted to support an organization called Project 150.
This group provides assistance for over 2500 homeless high school students in the Las Vegas valley. Project
150 serves 49 school sites in Clark County and Reno. They provide food, clothing, and hygiene items to
homeless high school students. They depend on contributions from local groups, and the Niners did not
disappoint them. Our members were extremely generous in providing many of the necessary items. We will
be making a delivery to the Project 150 headquarters very soon. Thank you to everyone who contributed.
Our April tournament had a large turnout. It was called “The Fab Four” and the golfers were asked to total
the scores for only the par fours. The winners were:

3rd Place (tie) - Evelyn Johnson and Corrine Franco (28)

ASSOCIATION
WOW! Our membership continues to increase, and we now have 67 members.
Again, WOW! A warm welcome to all of them, the most recent Janet Veloz, Terry
Gaeta, and Renee Kositchek.
Presidents Cup winner was Cheryl Rodrigues. Arlene Krupa, Gail Chow and Shirley Vandermoon all tied for
2nd place. Congratulations to all.
On the heels of the Presidents Cup is our LPWGA Club Championship May 11 and May 18. Don’t forget to
sign up for this annual event
.
While maybe not a “spring” tournament this year, the “Spring Social” will be resurrected with Linda Ericson
chairing the 2 person event. Details and date later.
Team Play members competed at Wild Horse and Oasis recently – and in a wind storm no less! While we are
down in points, we hope to gain in the coming games. Good luck to our Team Play players as they tackle
Bears Best this month!
LPWGA will host the May 16th Team Play. If you aren’t playing, we could use your help that day.
Gloria Pianko wanted to remind everyone to remember to post their Birdies on the Birdie tree. We’ll have
prizes for the winners at the end of the year.

Our Spring Cinco de Mayo Village event has not occurred as of this writing. However
we can predict it was very successful. The Golf Tournament, wine tasting and Mexican
Themed food at the Club House is one of the highest attended events of the year.
Our board will continue to plan for the remaining events for this year, trying to be the
best village in bringing people and neighbors together.
The dates are as follows: Octoberfest 10/16/16; Holiday party 12/4/16. Please mark

Our board always strives to have events that welcome all residents, renters, guests and
children. We are a social group striving to bring people together to share food, refreshments,

Remember: It’s your course – repair divots and ball marks. It only takes a few seconds.
Don’t rely on others to do so and don’t be shy about reminding others to do so. Obey cart
signs, don’t drive where prohibited, and keep up with group in front of you, not ahead of
the group behind you. Leave the course in better shape than you found it.

Los Prados Men’s Club…..
May Tournament: The May special tournament will be held on May 21. This will be the
“Orange Ball” tournament, with a four man scramble format. Teams will be computer
selected. We'll have a shotgun start at 8:00, with free burgers and dogs following the event.
You must be an active member of the Men's Club to participate in this popular event.
June Tournament: The June tournament will be a new one for the Men's Club. It's called a
6 – 6 – 6 tournament, and will be held on June 18 with our regular starting times. The first six
holes will be a two man scramble. The second six holes will be one best ball of two players.
The third six holes will be a total net competition, with both players net scores counting. For
this one, you get to choose your own partner.

Some Random Golf Thoughts:
Golf can best be defined as an endless series of tragedies obscured by the occasional
miracle, followed by a good bottle of beer.
A “gimme” can best be defined as an agreement between two golfers, neither of whom can
putt very well.
Golf's a hard game to figure. One day you go out and slice it and shank it, hit into all the
traps, and miss all the greens. The next day, you go out and you really stink.
Golf is the only sport where the most feared opponent is yourself.
If your best shots are the practice swing and the “gimme” putt, you might consider another
sport.
And finally, no matter how badly you play, it's always possible to get worse.

CLASSIC ADVENTURE NOVEL - QUIZ
The adventure novel is a mainstay of literature. Name the title and author of these classics.
Please note that despite the old publication date of these novels, they still usually rate
among the top in this genre.
1) This novel relates the trek of people to the African interior where they discover a lost kingdom and a mysterious
white queen. First published in 1886 it has become one of the bestselling books of all time.
2) This 1980 tale tells the story of an African diamond expedition that finds a lost city, a group of killer apes and
experiences a wild series of happenings.
3) This 1903 novel is set in the Yukon Territory during the Gold rush of the 1890s. It tells the story of a domestic
dog’s progression from a family dog to the leader of a pack in the Alaskan wilds.
4) A 1924 novel that follows three brothers from the British Upper Class as they flee England and join the French

PRE AND POST WORLD WAR II NOVELS
If you enjoy reading about these periods of time then put these two books on your “must read’ list. First there is
“The Zig Zag Girl” (2014) by Elly Griffiths. This innovated novel interweaves WWII, Post WWII, and Magic in a
very entertaining mystery adventure. It starts with the discovery of a girl’s body, cut into three pieces. That relates
to a magic trick and evolves into WWII and Post WWII events. A solid book worthy of the reading time. Other
books by the author include “Dying Fall” (2013) and “The Outcast Dead” (2015).
Next comes “Fear Itself” by Andrew Rosenheim which covers the time period just before the US entry into WWII.
It covers the actions of an FBI Special Agent “assigned to infiltrate an American pro-Nazi organization”. He
becomes involved in a “web of political intrigue…” and sinister actions “that leads directly to the White House”.
Other books by the author include “The Little Tokyo Informant” (2013) and “The Accidental Agent “(2016).
BEEN THERE! DONE THAT!
From time to time, people will tell me that they visited the library and read most of what is there. My response to
that comment is the old adage “If you snooze, you lose”. Thanks to the overwhelming support of our residents, the
library’s inventory changes on a daily basis sometimes on a major basis. Also, because we are constantly updating,
your favorite author shelve may look the same but its contents may be very different. If you are at the clubhouse
and love to read take a few minutes out and check the library. You might have a pleasant surprise there for you.

Hello Los Prados.
AROUND THE CLUB.
I believe the car that most consistently stayed in the muscle car ear is the Mustang.
From the introduction of the 2+2 to the Shelby Cobra, GTA and today’s GT, Mustang has
always had something to offer, even in the lean years of the 1980’s. A good example of this is
Mike Farrell’s 2011 Mustang GT. Mike started with the GT package which included the new
302 Coyote engine, 6 speed automatic transmission, and Pierlli Nero Zero tires. This produced 412 HP, 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds and a quarter mile of 13.2 seconds or 108 MPH. I saw
this car perform one Sunday morning in January 2013 at the LVMS drag strip after attending LAPS FOR CHARITY when Mike beat a Corvette in the quarter and then landed in the
beach. “Opps”, I sure he would like to forget that part.
Since then Mike has made some additions to his Mustang starting with a GTA trim package
as a tribute to the 1967 GTA of movie fame. He has also added an AirAid cold air intake, full
race custom tune by BAMA, and GT 500 mufflers for a deeper sound. To better the handling
he added a custom strut tower center brace, new lower control arms and Nitto 555R 305
tires. Rounding things out, for more “get up and go” off the line he changed the rear end to a
new set of 4:10 gears. Results, 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds and the quarter mile is yet to be determined.
Now, “we’ve shown you ours, you show us yours” so to speak. I know there are a number of
vintage rides and Hot Rods in Los Prados so why not come out and get acquainted? I would
love to hear your story.
We are looking for new members, ladies too, so here is your invite to join us. We are a club for
anyone interested in driving, looking at, or talking about automobiles. The membership is made up
of people that live in Los Prados and outside of Los Prados. We meet the last Monday evening of
each month (except December or holidays) at the Los Prados club house in the Cypress Room at
6:00 pm. This is a social meeting with dinner being optional and did I mention that there are no
dues to join the club.
As Pop used to say; “Well, don’t that beat a hog flyin’!”

RECIPE INGREDIENTS
1 16-ounce package frozen corn
1 8-ounce package cheddar cheese shredded
1 cup sour cream
1 medium onion diced, (about ¾ cup)
1 packet (1 ounce) Hidden Valley® Original Ranch®
Salad Dressing & Seasoning Mix
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 eggs lightly beaten
8 ounces smoked ham diced
RECIPE DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350°F.
In an ovenproof 3-quart casserole, over medium heat, add the oil and cook until shimmering.
Add the onion and ham and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes until the onion is translucent and ham is just crisp.
Fold in the corn and stir until combined. Remove the pan from the heat and let cool slightly.
In a bowl, whisk the sour cream together with the seasoning mix and eggs until smooth.
Stir in half of the cheese. Pour the egg mixture over the corn and stir well.
Top with the remaining cheese and bake for 30 minutes until cheese has melted and has browned.
