Treasurers Report….
ADMINISTRATION, LOOP ROAD, MAINTENANCE AND SECURITY
The positive budget performance of nearly $10,000 for the month is due
primarily to accruing over $7,000 of violation fines and late fees that we do not
budget for (because we many not actually collect them). For the fiscal year to
date, accrued revenues are about $32,000 above the budgeted amount, but
$28,000 of that is in the two categories just mentioned. The slight negative
total YTD is primarily due to the large legal fees we have incurred and which
have previously been described.
GOLF COURSE AND PRO SHOP
For the month and this fiscal year this category continues to perform as it
has been; revenues are not meeting the targeted amounts, but expenses are
lower than anticipated resulting in a positive variance of $14,710 for the YTD.
FOOD AND BEVERAGE
Despite beating revenue estimates, this category experienced a negative
variance for the month, but remains $23,010 better than budget for the YTD.
ALL DEPARTMENTS
For the month, the total operating budget performed $11,600 better than
budgeted; for the year it’s $34,899. Considering the revenue comments in the
first paragraph we are very close to the spending plan contained in this budget.
RESERVE ACCOUNT
We continue to maintain a strong balance in cash and investments,
$3,238,956 at the end of August. We have asked Browning Associates to do
an update of their latest study to see if this strong position and the work we
have done (or not done) warrants any change in their funding recommendation
for the next fiscal year.
AGED OWNER BALANCES
Overdue assessments remain at a very low level, less than 1% of the annual
total. The total due us has increased about $11,000 due to an $18,000 increase in accrued violation fines as previously mentioned. One conclusion
that can be drawn from these figures is that the Compliance
Committee is doing its job.
AVAILABLE CASH BALANCES
They remain at a comfortable level ($875,703), but declined
about $91,000 from last month (as anticipated).

Income & Expense Summary
From the Chief Operating Officer….
Dear Residents,
Golf course maintenance deserves a big thank you for all the extra time
the staff has put in with the over-seeding of the golf course.
During the closure, new tile has been installed at the exterior and
interior lobby and the front desk reception area has received an upgrade
with granite counter tops and a lower section for handicap accessibility.
We have had extensive cleaning in the clubhouse as well.
Also, I am pleased to announce the P.J. Bertoch has received a
promotion to Maintenance Supervisor. P.J. is an integral part of our
operations and he has proven to be a dedicated employee at Los Prados
through his work ethic and positive attitude.
As always, thank you for your continued support and
feedback.
Cordially,
Margaret Thayer
Chief Operating Officer
Please be safe and watch out for the kids
that are trick or treating around the
property.
President’s Column...
It's now October and the weather should be calming down after a
very unusual summer.
The clubhouse lobby renovation is complete and the clubhouse reopened
October 3, 2015.
This time of year is a great time to get outside and enjoy the weather and
many outdoor activities with
fellow residents.
Taken from the September Newsletter Palm View Article:
Sunday, 10/11/15 Palm View will be hosting an Octoberfest and Golf Tournament. These residents are a social group striving to bring people together
to share food, refreshments, dancing, door prizes, fun and a golf tournament.
The menu includes Wiener schnitzel, Bratwurst, Stuffed Cabbage, Green
Salad, Au Gratin Potatoes and Carrot Cake. We will have a DJ for music
and dancing. Door prizes and raffles are also included.
Contact Jerry Wyszomirski for details.
The Los Prados Dust Devils Car Club's annual charity car show will be held
on Saturday October 17, 2015 from 10am to 2pm in our parking lot. There
will be a BBQ with fresh burgers and drinks to wash
them down, prepared by our own cooks. We'll also have a dessert truck, Sin
City Snowballs offering sweets, ices etc. for everyone, so bring the kids.
You'll see all kinds of cars and trucks from several eras (trophies will also be
awarded).
For nostalgia buffs many of the cars are from the 50's and 60's and so is the
music that will
be playing throughout the show.
Everyone will have a chance to win something on the “Wheel”, auctions and
drawings.
There is NO charge for spectators at this event.
Remember ALL proceeds are donated to LOCAL charities.
Come on out and bring the family to these community events!

Los Prados Men’s Club…..
Annual Calcutta: Our annual Calcutta will be on the 17th of October, with a
shotgun start at 8:00. A buffet lunch (with free beer and house wine) will follow,
with the election of officers and awarding of prizes. The tournament format will be
a Florida Scramble. In this format, the player whose ball position is selected for
the subsequent shot is excluded from attempting that shot. Teams will be
handicapped at 80% of the team's average handicap.
Team selection for this event will be on October 15 in the clubhouse, with free
refreshments, as usual. The deadline for sign-ups is Wednesday, October 14. The
entry fee is $25 for members having 10 or more rounds of Men's Club competition
since the last Calcutta. For those with fewer rounds, the entry fee is $50.
Men's Club Participation: The subject of Men's Club particpation has once again
come up. The Saturday competitions occupy about 2 ½ hours of prime golfing
time, and if we do not fully utilize that time the association is losing money. The
Men's Club Executive Board discussed this problem at some length in its last
meeting. We will provide the Association management with some options for
consideration.
November Tournament: The previously announced “Heaven & Hell” tournament
has been replaced. In its stead we will have a “Point Quota” tournament. It is an
individual competition, with a different scoring method.(5468 Patchwood)
Before play begins, each player subtracts his handicap from 39. The result is the
players “Point Quota” for the match. For example, a 10
handicap player would have a point quota of 29. Points are
awaded as follows: Bogey – 1; Par – 2, Birdie – 4, Eagle – 8.
The goal is to accumulate as many points over your quota as
possible. The golfer with the most points over his quota wins.
Palm View Village News / Events
Plans were completed our 2015 Oktoberfest. Not knowing when this letter
will be published and sent to residents we can predict a successful event.
We began working on the next event which is our Christmas Party on
12/6/15. A new DJ was hired from Las Vegas DJs/AAAProductions. Along with a
prime rib dinner we are working on a surprise entertainer.
We will also be doing the Holiday home decorating contest and will be issuing five prizes.
The dates all of our last event are as follows:
Holiday party 12/6/15. Please mark your calendars.
We welcome all residents, renters, guests and children. We are a social
group striving to bring people together to share food, refreshments, dancing, door
prizes, and fun.
Finally, an important quote; the best and most beautiful things in the world cannot
be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.
Yours Truly

NINERS
September 10th the Los Prados Niner's played golf then enjoyed lunch and a meeting to
begin their 22nd year. The September Tournament was best par 3’s and 4s’ on the back
9. First place was a tie between Sharon Jansen and Pam Tallent. Thelma Esteban won
second.
We are looking forward to our annual Niner’s and Friends Tournament which will take
place Sunday October 18th with a pot luck afterwards at the home of Ellen Dunning.
We welcomed a new member to the Niner’s—Margaret Smith.
Our next golf and meeting will be October 8th.
Last Spring the Niner’s donated all descriptions of golf equipment to the Tonopah High
School Girls golf team. There were some things for the boy’s, too. We collected 17 full sets
of clubs plus all of the extra’s that go with them. The coach, Robert Otteson and the girls
golf coach, his wife Penny Otteson are so grateful for our generosity. In his thank you letter
to us, via Joan Nazer , he said they have 6 girls on the team now and they are all “decked out”
with everything they need. They have been practicing and will start competing with other
teams around the state. He will send us a team picture and we will keep up with them. GO
MUCKERS!

Notes from the Los Prados Golf Association (LPGA) Continued….
SEPTEMBER 2015
From the Tournament Chair:
From the President: By the time this gets to you, the new pathway around the number 6
green should be completed. We hope that this will help speed pace of play.
No doubt by now you’ve been apprised of the new rule prohibiting parking closer than 30’
from any green and not on an authorized parking area, plus the installation of signs that say
“’No Carts Beyond Here”. For those of us who don’t have Blue Flag privileges, this rule is not
really new. Directional arrow signage prohibiting driving and parking close to the green has
been on the course for many years. The change relates mainly to the “No Carts Beyond Here”
signs. If you don’t have a Blue Flag, don’t go past them. They are there because the
Superintendent does not want you to go there for a reason related to either safety or possible
damage to the course. Patrons, non-residents and residents, have been seen driving around
greens, over tee boxes and curbs, and through the landscaped desert areas. As an example,
driving around the right side of #16 green and/or across the desert area enroute to #17 tee.
For Blue Flag holders, you may go beyond a directional arrow sign to a point no close than 30’
from the green – provided you don’t drive around the green, through desert areas, or some
other place that is obviously wrong. Chances are that if you go over a curb at any point you’re
in the wrong place. Your cooperation will help our course keep looking good.

LOS PRADOS BOOK CLUB

unraveled.
Hawkins’ novel relates the story of Rachel Watson has spent the last few years

woman. Now she wiles away her days riding the commuter train to and from London, despite
having been fired from her job months ago. The train makes a daily stop by her old
neighborhood and it is here she spies a couple appearing to be living a perfect life from a
beautiful home. She begins to fantasize about the couple, inventing little lives and backstories
for them to keep her mind off her own troubles. All of a sudden events take an unexpected
turn. It contains an intricate plot that thrills with a suspenseful murder mystery sure to
captivate all audiences.
November will find us reading Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain.
After losing her parents, fifteen-year-old Ivy Hart is left to care for her grandmother,
older sister and nephew as tenants on a small tobacco farm. As she struggles with her
grandmother's aging, her sister's mental illness and her own epilepsy, she realizes they might
need more than she can give.
When Jane Forrester takes a position as Grace County's newest social worker, she
doesn't realize just how much her help is needed. She quickly becomes emotionally invested
in her clients' lives, causing tension with her boss and her new husband. But as Jane is drawn
in by the Hart women, she begins to discover the secrets of the small farm--secrets much
darker than she would have guessed. Soon, she must decide whether to take drastic action to
help them, or risk losing the battle against everything she believes is wrong.
Set in rural Grace County, North Carolina in a time of state-mandated
sterilizations and racial tension, Necessary Lies tells the story of these two
young women, seemingly worlds apart, but both haunted by tragedy. Jane
and Ivy are thrown together and must ask themselves: how can you know
what you believe is right, when everyone is telling you it's wrong?
We are open to all residents of Los Prados and friends as well. We meet the first Wednesday
of the month at 12:00 noon in the Cypress Room. After a lively discussion, those who can, stay and
enjoy lunch in the Clubhouse. If you wish to know more about the Book Club,

EVIL MEN AND WOMEN OF FILMDOM
For our next several quizzes, we are going to the dark side and asking you about some of the evil men and women in
filmdom. To be polite, we will start with the evil screen ladies. There is no consensus as to the top evil film ladies
and a lot depends on how you word your search. For example - Top “Bad Females of Film” brings up a different list
than “Evil Females of Film”. For the quiz, I selected some films that appear on almost every list. Also, to challenge
the true film buffs, I have included some “film noir” movies and one “cult” classic. Can you name the movie and the
actress?
1) In this 1987 movie, Michael Douglas’s life became a nightmare when he rejected the love of Alex Forrest after a
one night stand. She stalked him, his family, killed their pet rabbit and did much more.
2) This 1990 film has Annie Wilkes who is a fanatic fan of a main character of a series of books. When the author James Caan - is hurt in a car accident and in her care, she goes to extreme measures including breaking the author’s
legs to force him to bring the character back-to-life.
3) This 1975 film gave us Nurse Mildred Ratched who thrived on controlling, humiliating, and drugging her patients.
She and her battles with her nemesis - Jack Nicolson - make this a great film.
4) In this 2004 movie about high school, Regina George rules the roost with her manipulative and dishonest behavior.
She likes nothing better than to destroy those not in her circle.
5) This 1981 movie about a long time leading lady of Hollywood, a portrait is painted of a woman who terrorizes
and uses all those around her and beats her children on a regular basis.
6) In this series of movies, we are presented with Bellatrix Lestrange who is portrayed as a mentally unstable
murderess and madwoman. Among other activities, she tortures students and dishes out curses.
7) In this classic 1945 film noir movie, its star (deemed by many to be the Queen of this genre) plays Vera. Vera is
the ultimate femme fatale - sexy, cunning, evil, and willing to resort to blackmail, murder, and other vices to get her
way.
8) In this 1945 film, my favorite actress (hint to those who read this column), plays Ellen Berent Harland. She starts
off the movie as this sweet likeable young woman who meets and marries. Slowly, you see that she is “menacing,
father-fixated, unstable” woman who so possessive that she will do anything to keep her husband including murder.
Ultimately, she kills herself and frames her husband.
9)In this first of a series of Horror movies, Pamela Voorhees is a camp cook who murders two people and then 20
years later comes back to start her murders all over again. A true evil antagonist.
10) First but not last, in this 1965 cult classic film, we have Varla. She is the leader of a trio of women who embark
on a spree of kidnapping and murder in the California desert. It was box office failure when issued but now is
regarded as a fantastic work and is frequently cited in most lists as one of the best B and cult movies.
BYGONE PRODUCTS - ANSWERS
1) Laxative - slogan was “Natures spelled backwards”; 2) A facial soap -battled Ivory ; 3) Wang - one of the first
computer manufacturers; 4) Toothpaste; 5) Beer ; 6) Detergent Soap ; 7) Vegetable Shortening - a rival of Crisco; 8)
Shampoo; 9) Cigarette - billed as the best of “the long cigarettes”; 10)4th TV Network - had initial success I.e.
“Honeymooners” but quickly faded after that; 11) Wine producer - at one time it was America’s largest wine
company; 12) Automobile . Produced by Nash 1950-1954 and then by American Motors Company 1954 to 1969. Its
1958 version dubbed “America‘s first compact car“.
LIBRARY TIDBITS
All “LARGE PRINT” hardcopy/paperback - regardless of author or genre are filed on Shelf (18). We have a good
inventory but always welcome donations.. There are a many residents who prefer this print.(5065 Cedar lawn)
The number on the bottom of all books is the year of publication .I.e. 05 means the book was published in 2005 and
87/10 means that the book was originally published in 1987 and the reprint published in 2010. This can be an aid
when trying to read an author’s books in order.

Hello Los Prados, this is Marvin from the Dust Devils car club.
HEAR YE, HEAR YE, HEAR YE, come one come all, young and old,
grandsons and grandpas to the biggest Little Car Show in Las Vegas. It is time
again for the Los Prados Dust Devils Annual Charity Car Show Saturday,
October 17th at the club house parking lot from 10:00am to 2:00pm. There will be raffles and
prizes, food and fun, and oh the cars from classics to collectables, hot rods and rat rods.
Grandparents bring your grandchildren and tell them about the cars you drove in the younger years.
It’s all for fun and charity and this year we will have SPINAL CARE OF NEVADA represented to
offer a free screening.
Last year we partnered with the Los Prados Women’s Club to help generate over $20,000 for local
charities such as the USO, Family Promise, Street Teens, and many others. We expect this year to
be even better. We have invited many beautiful and unique cars from outside the Dust Devils club
to participate. But a car show is nothing without its spectators so come on down to the club house
between 10am and 2pm. Join us for this special afternoon and while there enter a raffle for a
chance at some of the spectacular prizes or take a spin on the wheel for gift baskets and gift
certificates.
Well, that is it for this month. Once again, come visit with us on the last Monday of the month at
6:00 p.m. in the Cypress room at the Los Prados club house and did I mention there are no dues.
We are a club for anyone interested in talking about, looking at, or driving anything with or without
a motor. The membership is made up of folks that live in Los Prados and outside of Los Prados. If
you would like any other information about the club or the car show you can contact me at
702-645-1541.
As for events in October besides our own car show you might want to check out something
different like the Red Bull Air Races held October 18th inside the Las Vegas Motor Speedway or
the Veteran Motor Car Club “High Rollers” show on October 24th held at Sansone Plaza parking
lot, 9510 S. Eastern Ave. from 10:30am to 3:00pm.
Hope you have had a good summer of fun and look out for the Trick or Treaters on October 31st.
Keep your shiny side up.
Marvin
