The International Housewares Association
is the premier not-for-profit trade
association serving the housewares
industry. IHA, on behalf of its members
and the housewares community, is
committed to maximizing the success of
the industry by bringing together industry
constituencies, providing a world-class
trade show marketplace, advocacy,
facilitation of global commerce, essential
market data and business-support services.
PRODUCTS & SERVICES
As the Home Authority, IHA is a primary
source of industry information. The
Association sponsors an annual State of the
Industry Report. Worldwide, housewares
represented a U.S. $301 billion market.
IHA makes available quarterly Housewares
MarketWatch information, tracking pointof-sale and consumer data for both electric
and non-electric housewares categories. IHA
offers members a full menu of international
services including export and global sourcing
assistance. IHA provides networking
opportunities and offers programs to assist,
support and educate members.
IHA’s Business Solutions Initiative offers

INTERNATIONAL HOME
+ HOUSEWARES SHOW
At the center of IHA’s activities is the
International Home + Housewares Show
which has been held in Chicago since
1939. The 2010 Show will be held
Sunday-Tuesday, March 14-16, 2010 at
McCormick Place in Chicago. The Show
provides a marketplace for manufacturers
and buyers from around the world to
meet to conduct business, discuss trade
practices, formulate ideas and discover
new opportunities.
The International Home + Housewares
Show is a world-class marketplace,
attracting 60,000 attendees from more than
100 countries. It’s the world’s largest home
products showcase introducing thousands
of new products and designs from over
2,000 exhibitors from more than 40 nations.
Among the Show’s exhibitors, over 40%
are from outside the United States. Nearly
one-third of attendees are from outside the
United States.
The Show is divided into categorized
expos to make it more productive for
attendees. The four expos are A) Dine +
Design featuring tabletop products, cook
and bakeware, kitchen accessories,
giftware and home décor and GOHO
the Gourmet Home + Food District; B)
Wired + Well featuring electrics and
home health care; C) Clean + Contain
featuring cleaning products, products for
home organization, products for outdoor
living and Promotion in Motion
featuring traffic building promotional
programs and continuities; D) Global
Crossroads featuring pavilions and
products from exhibitors from around
the world.
GOHO features exhibitors of gourmet

specialty foods and unique food
preparation tools. The exhibit includes
demonstrations by celebrity chefs
scheduled in the GOHO Cooking Theater
and food tastings presented by the National
Association for the Specialty Food Trade.
Retailers of all sizes will find thousands of
new products and ideas at the Show. In
addition to the opportunity to see the
entire industry and meet with current or
new vendors, attendees can also attend
free seminars on color, design and
innovation, visit the ColorWatch Display
by Pantone for the latest in color, visit the
Inventors Corner, view award-winning
merchandising from best-in-class retailers
from around the world and meet the
student designers who are creating the
future of homegoods design.
Nearly 75% of U.S. retail buyers attending
the Show represent specialty channels. To
better serve this growing attendee group,
the Show has created the Specialty
Retailer Program, which identifies
exhibitors particularly or exclusively
interested in working with specialty stores.
Identified in the Show Directory and in
their booths, these exhibitors have
individuals specifically identified as
Specialty Retailer Specialists. The
Specialty Retailer Program also offers
specialty retailers additional educational
and support opportunities. Specialty
Retailer University is a full-day pre-show
education program. There are also free
individual consulting sessions available
with experts on staff training, store design
and PR during the Show.

the website you can also make travel and
lodging arrangements.

These days an enjoyable meal consists of
more than just exquisite ingredients. It is also
important to know how to create an
atmosphere at the table, and how highquality, functional kitchen utensils can round
off the indulgence experience. From February
12-16, 2010 all these themes will be
presented in the Dining area of Ambiente,
the largest international tradeshow for
consumer goods. The world’s leading fair for
the table, kitchen and housewares is home to
well-known international companies, who
will be showcasing their new products and
highlights for the upcoming year with an
impressive brand presence. The range of
products comprises of glass, porcelain,
ceramics, cutlery, kitchen and household
goods. Dining will be joined by the leading
international fairs Living and Giving under
the Ambiente roof.
A new layout for the major brands
Ambiente stands for innovations, trends and
new products. At the upcoming event, this
will apply not just to the products but to the
overall layout of the show. Ambiente is being
restructured and rotated, and the three leading
international fairs will be switching sides. This
year exhibitors on the west side will move to
the east side and vice versa. From 2010,
Dining will be allocated more space for the
expanding kitchen and household segments
and will occupy Halls 1 to 6 of the Fair and
Exhibition Center. The new Ambiente
concept will be even more market specific and
will meet exhibitor requirements in terms of
where and how their collections are presented.
300 years of porcelain
Magnificent courtly pieces, coveted collectors’
objects, traditional family porcelain or massproduced goods—porcelain has been
reflecting social development in the most
impressive way for three centuries. To
celebrate this anniversary, Ambiente will be
a n d
k i t c h e n
staging a special feature area “300 years of
porcelain.” The theme will be the evolution of
the cultural artifact. Designer Gerd
Sommerlade will be interpreting the most
important milestones from three centuries of
dining culture. The popular producer and
stylist has already produced a series of
photographs on the theme of dining, kitchen
and hospitality for several major lifestyle
magazines. Sommerlade has also presented
the series and collections for big porcelain
brands like Rosenthal and Reichenbach.
New young designers
in the Table section
Ambiente’s unique product range will be
boosted by a host of high-class design
exhibitions, trend areas and events. For the
first time in 2010, there will also be a
dedicated Talents area. Young designers from
the promotional program will be presenting
their ideas and blueprints on the theme of
table, kitchen and household. Fresh design
ideas will also be displayed in the A Mano area,
where start-up companies with new and
innovative products will be exhibiting. These
participants want to establish themselves on
the market and would like to find customers
and producers.
“Kitchen Innovation Prize” at
Ambiente from 2010
From 2010, a special highlight of Ambiente
will be the presentation of the “Kitchen
Innovation
Prize.”
FoodVision
Deutschland GmbH is awarding this prize
in context of Initiative LifeCare—Besser
Leben and in cooperation with Messe
Frankfurt. It honors kitchen, table and
dining innovation. An independent jury of
experts will evaluate the products submitted
regarding innovation, functionality and
design. Then consumers will decide which
of the products nominated deserves the
“Kitchen Innovation of the Year” award.
