Danish Tuition
You will receive an offer from the Jobcenter about
Danish tuition within a month after your arrival.
• If you do not receive the invitation or if you wish an

Sign up for public child care
Public child care in Denmark includes day care institution, day care childminder (children age 0-3) and
kindergarten (children age 3-5).
It is important that you sign up as soon as possible because the waiting lists are based on the date for signing
up. These are some of the important rules:
• Until you know where in the municipality you will live,
you are allowed to sign up for several areas within the
municipality. If you do so, please remember to change
your priority, as soon as you know your permanent
address.
• If your child has a CPR no. you can sign up at
www.minpladsanvisning.esbjergkommune.dk.
• If your child does not yet have a CPR no. please con tact the daycare department at tel. (+45) 761616116
(ask for “pladsanvisning”). Alternatively, you are
welcome to contact Newcomer Service in order to
sign up. Please note that you will not receive any
offers for child care before you and your child have
physically moved to the municipality.
Enrolling at school
If you arrive in the municipality of Esbjerg with children
in the school age (age 5-15) who are not fluent in
Danish, they will be offered to join a receiving class. This
class will prepare them to begin at a regular class in a
public school the subsequent year.

• To enroll danish speaking children at an ordinary
public school contact the school directly.
International school
Esbjerg International School is a private school which
accepts students from age 3-17. Guest students are
welcome free of charge for up to one week.

Child benefit
The authority dealing with child benefit is “Udbetaling
Danmark”, and the direct number regarding child
benefit is (+45) 70128062.
Non EU foreigners will automatically be listed for child
benefit with a vesting period when arriving in Denmark,
and do not need to register.
EU/EØS Citizens shall register for child benefit. If you have
previously lived and working in an EU country, you are usually entitled to full child benefit, without a vesting period.

Housing benefit
The authority dealing with Housing benefits is “Udbetaling Danmark”, and the direct number regarding housing
benefit is (+45)70128063.
If you live in a rented a home in Denmark, you may
apply for housing benefit.
• You can apply online at borger.dk using your NemID
or you can ask for an application form for housing
benefit (In Danish: “Boligstøtte”) at the Citizen Service
Centre.
• If you wish to check whether you might be entitled
to housing benefit, please call Udbetaling Danmark.
Translating documents
If you need to have official documents translated you
must use an approved interpreter. You are free to choose
between all interpreters who have an interpreter’s number (In Danish: “Tolke nummer”).
You can contact any interpreter in Denmark and ask
them if they have an interpreters number.
Tax matters
If you or your partner have an income in Denmark you
will need a Tax card to use your personal allowance.
Please call the Foreign Tax at tel. (+45) 7222 2892 to
have a Tax card made.

download and submit the form
“Researcher or Key Employee” at www.skat.dk

• Hand in the form at ICS Odense, Dannebrogsgade 3, 5000 Odense C on Tuesdays or
Thursdays between12 and 4 pm.
