The Lenten Season has arrived with
St. Teresa Council having conducted
FISH FRY
two of its Fish Fry events. Both
NEWS
events have been received well by the
local communities, with one event
having served over 500 adult meals
during a 3 hour time span. The meal consist of fish or frog legs, french
fries or onion rings, coleslaw, hush puppies, bread, and even a
delicious homemade dessert. Desserts are donated by spouses and
community members alike. Young and Old come out to enjoy the hot
food and share an evening meal with friends and family.

on 20 and 27 March. On Good Friday, 3 April, the Fish Fry Event will

Assembly News

A warm welcome to new members Ken Pilkenton, Christopher Medina and Ray Taitano. This brings
our Assembly membership number to 45 members. Two of the new members come from St.
Patricks Council located on Fort Knox. Christopher has accepted the position of Color Corp
Commander for the Assembly.

Congratulations to Sir Knight Gary Dykhuis for receiving his Honorary Lifetime Membership at the
March meeting.

Christmas Card Sales for the 2014 Sale were reported at the
March meeting. The net proceeds from the sale was $742.75.
There are 2 full cases of cards remaining to begin the 2015
Christmas Holiday Sale.

Divine Mercy Sunday is April 12th at St. Mary Magdalene of
Pazzi, Payneville at the 0830 Mass. All 4th Degree Members with full Regalia are requested to
participate. Please arrive 20 minutes early.

All Knights with full Regalia are invited to participate in the Kentucky Derby Pegasus Parade which
will take place on April 30th, there will be a float and members will need to wear their Regalia for the
parade. Members will meet at the Brandenburg Council Building to car pool at 1:30 PM.

Kentucky State Council
“Towards Higher Goals”
The Kentucky Knights of Columbus 112th State Convention will
be held Friday May 15th through Sunday May 17th at the Ramada
Plaza Hotel in Louisville. The event kicks off with Friday Evening
Dinner at Assumption Council. Saturday, May 16th begins with a
Business Meeting, Ladies Luncheon, Award Presentation, Mass
Celebrated by Archbishop Kurtz, followed by Evening Banquet.
Sunday Morning, the 17th concludes with a Business Meeting and
Ladies Hospitality.

“FOLLOW ME”
In Luke’s Gospel chapter 5 we are introduced to Levi, a tax collector for the Roman Empire. Collecting
large amounts of taxes was the way the Romans kept control over their people. As you can imagine tax
collectors were not very popular members of the community.
When Jesus joined Levi one evening with the others like him, the religious leaders known as the
Pharisees and Scribes were outraged at this act. When Jesus was questioned about his choice of
dinner guest we all remember his very famous response, which was: “I have not come to call the
righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
Jesus was a constant teacher, always looking for ways to change hearts and minds. It worked in Levi’s
case; he later became Matthew, one of the chosen twelve apostles.
It is a teaching moment for us too. Jesus is always challenging each of us to follow him; maybe not to
the extent of Matthew, who gave up all his possessions and his life as a martyr; but to do little things that
impact the lives of others and in so doing changing our hearts and minds. Blessed Mother Theresa
followed Jesus that way. She did little things with great love.
As Knights, we are very aware of Jesus’s calling; but, it doesn’t hurt to be reminded of it occasionally.

Who are the Knights of Columbus?
In 1882 a young priest named Father Michael McGivney gathered a small group of Catholic laymen
together in the basement of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, CT. That group formed a fraternal benefit
society to provide insurance for the widows of its members while offering fellowship among Catholic
men. That group became known as the Knights of Columbus.
From these humble origins, the Knights of Columbus has grown into a fraternal order with more than 1.7
million members located in over 13,000 councils throughout the world. Each year members of the
organization donate more than 64 million volunteer hours and over $139.7 million to charitable and
Church causes. Besides performing good works, the Knights of Columbus offers affordable life
insurance to members and their immediate family. It also provides a number of fraternal benefit
programs to members and their families,.
Every Knights of Columbus Council provides a variety of opportunities, project and activities for
members and their families to become involved in, They may benefit not only the Church but also the
community as a whole, especially those less fortunate.
Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to young men 18 years of age or older who are
practicing Catholics in union with the Holy See. For anyone who is interested please contact Bruce

St. Patrick
Born in Britain shortly before the 5th century, St. Patrick, pictured
below, was taken captive to Ireland by raiders at the age of 16. He
lived there for six years as a shepherd under harsh conditions and
became intensely devoted to God in prayer, as he puts it, “because
the spirit was then fervent within me.” Tradition has it that divine
dreams inspired both his escape from captivity in Ireland and his
return there later in his life as a bishop.
In this prayer he asks for God’s help in various ways:
May the Strength of God pilot us.
May the Power of God preserve us.
May the Wisdom of God instruct us.
May the Hand of God protect us.
May the Way of God direct us.
May the Shield of God defend us.
May the Host of God guard us.
Against the snares of the evil ones.
Against temptations of the world
May Christ be with us!
May Christ be before us!
May Christ be in us,
Christ be over all!
May Thy Salvation, Lord,
