Remember that hotel staff keep different
schedules. The housekeeper you have on
Wednesday may not work weekends. It’s a
good idea to leave $1 on your pillow each
morning to let the staff know they are
appreciated and ensure that the proper
person receives your tip.

in beautiful Billings, Montana!
July 16-20, 2014
Montana’s Big Sky Country,
and all of its 1 million inhabitants,
extend a very warm welcome to
all Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Whether you are traveling from the East, West, or South we hope your destination
will be Billings, Montana July 14-20th 2014. As Montana State Regent, I consider it both
an honor and a privilege for Montana to host the 55th Biennial National Convention—a first
ever for Montana.
The State Officers and I, along with the members of all nine courts, are pouring heart and soul
into activities in order to guarantee a pleasant and exciting experience for everyone. We are
preparing for approximately 1000 guests as this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many to
have such an experience in such a great state!
Come early and join our many exciting tours. Experience the quiet solitude which Lewis and
Clark enjoyed, then visit General Custer’s Last Stand and Museum, and on the way home
feast on Indian tacos and or fry bread. Yellowstone and its tributaries, the Beartooth Highway,
scenic Look Out, and shopping in the town of Red Lodge all add to the flavor called
Montana. If you are a “staying in the city” person, we have the historic tours of downtown
Billings where you will find a world famous hatter, antiques and restaurants (perhaps for your
State night party).
If you are unable to visit Our Lady of the Rockies at Butte, Montana, (a lesson in government
and religion working together to make things happen) then, we will bring her and her story
and glory to you during the convention.
Kelly Idhe, First Vice State Regent, has put together an interesting Walk/Run For Love and many
other Montana Catholic Daughters are working on decorations, liturgies, luncheons, registration,
meals, raffles and everything else that makes a Convention of this magnitude happen.
Last, but certainly not least, Fun Night on Friday the 18th of July, is a jam packed evening of
tummy-stuffing food, great entertainment, and time to get together with friends from previous
conventions even if it is just to say, “Howdy,” or “Can you sit with me and chat a spell?” We will
have events, both indoors and outdoors—something for everyone.
We are looking forward to meeting all 1000 of you, and wish you joy, peace, and safe travels.
Blessings,
Carol Schaff
Montana State Regent

State Dinners
There are quite a few restaurants within
walking distance of the hotel. The Holiday
Inn has offered the use of their meeting
rooms for State Dinners on Thursday night.
Several Smaller states could even share
space and celebrate together. The
Billings Hotel has a large green space,
they are willing to set up tables and
chairs in this outdoor area. Both hotels
have great food selections, but space
is limited. State Regents, please think
about State Dinner plans now and
contact the hotels ASAP if you wish to
reserve one of these spaces.
Memorial Book
There will be a Memorial Book set up in the
Registration area for you to enter the names of
deceased members, family and friends. Those
listed in this book will be remembered in our
Memorial mass on Thursday morning.
I Am The Vine...
“I am
the vine,
you are the
branches.”
-John 5:15
In keeping with our convention
theme “I am the vine, you are
the branches” —John 5:15,
each court in attendance will
be given a large leaf to be
hung on our Convention
banner. The Regent or, in her
absence, the highest ranking
officer or other member, will be
asked to write their courts
name, number and location on
a leaf and affix it to the large
banner that will be displayed in
the registration area. We can’t
wait to see our vine grow with
the fruit of membership!
