Mrs. Ackley’s Message . . .
Dear North Lake Families,
There is a lot of good news to share this week as we approach our Winter Break. First of all, I would like to thank
Ann Mandick for her work coordinating the blood drive
on Monday. According to American Red Cross Blood
Services, North Lake School had an awesome drive and
potentially saved 96 lives. I enjoyed seeing many husbands and wives donating blood together and thought what
a wonderful parent group we have at North Lake School.
The Steinbauer Family, along with your help, collected
over 160 toys for the Kapco Kids 2 Kids Program. Thank
you to our North Lake teachers for promoting this service
project and to our students for giving so generously. It was
fun to see all the goodies piling up on the table across from
the office.
On Thursday, members of Veterans of Foreign Wars
(Hartland Post) presented Patriot’s Pen certificates and
$100 cash to two deserving 8th graders: Grace Mandick &
Michael Mickevicius. Congratulations! We had a miniceremony during lunch and introduced the VFW gentlemen.
Afterwards, a 6th grade boy asked me why they are called
veterans of four wars? It was a perfect teachable moment
for this boy and his friends when they pondered the difference between four and foreign.
Another teaching and learning highlight from the week was
when Ms. Northard’s 8th grade Robotics class presented to
Mrs. Hansen’s 3rd graders. The 8th grade engineers designed and built pull toys using the VEX robotics equipment.
One group actually printed a piece for their pull toy in the
cam and follower mechanism allowing Santa’s sleigh to go
up and down. They printed the part on one of our two MakerBot 3D printers. I continue to be impressed by our STEM
program and its impact on our kids.
Please join us next week as we kick off the holiday with an
ALL-SCHOOL SING ALONG in the big gym at 2:00 p.m.
on Tuesday, December 22. The Sing Along will follow
classroom holiday parties bringing wonderful energy to the
event. :) Mrs. Buchholz has organized this tradition and it
is sure to put us all in the Christmas spirit! We will also
have a special musical appearance by another staff member. Stay tuned...
On behalf of the North Lake School Board, I would like to
wish everyone a happy holiday and a safe, healthy new
year! Thank you for being part of our North Lake Family.
All the Best,
Liesl Ackley
