WHAT’S NEW
New BA Communication program. In it we take critical, cultural and theoretical
approaches to developing an understanding of human communication. Potential
students will have an interest in media literacy, interpersonal, small group and
organizational communication as well as the socio-political aspects of
communication within today’s society. Graduates will be well positioned to pursue
further study and careers in communication and related fields, especially those
which require skills in research, writing and analysis.
The new Margaret Norrie McCain Centre for Teaching, Learning and Research is
scheduled to open in May 2015. It will house our faculties of Business and
Tourism, Public Relations, Science Communication and Communication. It will
also house several technologically advanced break-out/seminar rooms, a
learning commons, and some student services.

INSTITUTION INFORMATION
Why NBCC? College offers you a personalized learning approach, on-the-job
experiences and faculty that are mentors and teachers.
No matter your age or where you are in life, deciding if college is right for you
can be a tough decision. Understanding the facts when it comes to what college
offers will make your decision much easier; but, don't take our word for it, check
out the video above to see what real students and alumni have to say about their
own experiences.
What you can expect… Depending on your field of study, college programs
begin with classroom-based lessons and labs. Your class sizes will be small,
and taught by industry professionals. Your instructors get to know you by name,
not by number, and give you the hands-on experience you need to fully
understand your field of study.
Many of NBCC’s programs offer a workplace or co-op term. In some programs,
multiple co-op terms are available. This gets you out in the work world building
your resume, while developing your social skills, organization and work ethic.
At NBCC, the courses you take directly relate to your program. You won’t be
asked to take courses that aren’t applicable to your field, and you won’t have to
choose from a list of non-relevant electives. In college, you’re continuously
evaluated and assessed on your assignments, tests, classroom attendance and
work placements as you progress through each semester.
NBCC is also a cost-effective option. With scholarships and financial assistance
available, getting your diploma and landing your career doesn’t have to break
the bank. You can find out more about financial questions you may have on our
financial information page.

WHAT’S NEW
It's been an incredibly busy few months here at NBCC as we announced our first ever NSERC funded
applied research project, launched our first ever Alumni Association, continued to build on the
platforms laid out by our Five-Year Strategic Plan, and graduated over 2,000 students who are now
ready to thrive in the workplace. All of this activity meant that Mornings with Marilyn had to take a back
seat for a little while, but our President and CEO, Marilyn Luscombe, wanted to take this opportunity to
say a few words about this particular milestone moment in the year.
We have been so thrilled to honour the largest graduating class 2013 in the College's history, and we
couldn’t be more proud of the calibre of students who walked across our 6 campus stages.
We happily welcome them to the alumni community, and look forward to hearing about all the ways
they contribute to their communities. We also look forward to them playing integral roles in our newly
formed, but already thriving NBCC Alumni Association. I am grateful to have been able to attend
each of the ceremonies. My wish that I conveyed to graduates on their special day was for lives of
service.
NBCC's Signature Learning Experience (SLE) is a strategic initiative of our new five-year strategic
plan, Imagine the Possibilities. We have yet to firmly define the SLE, but much of the discussion
around it has been about the meaningful connections between NBCC and our communities. What I
have learned during this process is that our students and staff are already deeply involved in making a
difference in their communities.
Whether as part of their programs, part of a student group, or on their own, our students have worked
to have a direct impact on communities and organizations and individuals in need of assistance. For
example, a victimology course at NBCC Miramichi partnered with the local Sexual Assault Committee
to organize a "Take Back the Night March;" Carpentry students at NBCC Woodstock built wall
sections for Habitat for Humanity in Fredericton; Human Services Students at NBCC Moncton joined
with Youth Residences to support the national “Raise the Roof” campaign to end youth homelessness;
the SRC at NBCC Saint John collected 592 coats for children in need during their city's Santa Claus
parade; Practical Nursing students at NBCC St. Andrews hosted another Fall Health and Wellness
Fair that was well-attended by the public; and students at NBCC Fredericton's Applied Studies
Internship designed a website and promotional pamphlets for the Capital Region Mental Health and
Addictions Association.
This is only a small sample of the kinds of ways our students are involved in their communities, and
demonstrates why our communities so value our students and our College. NBCC stories of service
are endless
As our Alumni Association continues to grow, it is my greatest hope that our vision of "Transforming
Lives and Communities" stays with them as they move forward in their own lives and careers. We
hope that our alumni continue to share this vision and remain partnered with NBCC in the future to
make it an even bigger reality and impact." - Marilyn Luscombe, President and CEO, NBCC

INSTITUTION INFORMATION
Program Highlights:
We offer a totally unique liberal arts education with study abroad
in Asia and Europe as an integral part of every degree. Unlike
large, impersonal universities, St. Stephen's University is a closeknit community with a Christian core, where friendships and fun
blend with an education that teaches you to think, to
communicate, and to engage with God and the world.
Our student body is intentionally small (under 120 students), so
that every one of our students can be their own person, not a
number. Studying, cooking, cleaning, and traveling together
fosters close relationships among students, faculty, and staff,
which in turn promotes a maturity of character and faith that
expresses itself both inside and outside the classroom.
We offer majors in International Studies, Psychology, and
Humanities.

Bernardine Hall— traditional style of residence living: bachelor rooms for
single or double occupancy. It’s always easy to find someone to hang out
with or provide a little extra help with assignments, allowing you to stay
focused on academic success.
Bill & Denise Andrew Hall – the newest residence on campus is all about
comfort and convenience, with two- and three-bedroom suites with their own
washroom, microwave, mini-fridge, kitchen sink, table, and chairs (one
bedroom, barrier-free suite are also available). Kitchenettes are handy for
snacks, and spacious enough for hanging out with your friends.
All students living in Bernardine and Andrew Hall are on a 5 or 7 day
unlimited meal plan and eat at the Wanda Wyatt Dining Hall.
Blanchard Hall -UPEI’s apartment-style residence, offers students all the
space and privacy you need, with all the benefits of residence living.
Students will share a two-bedroom apartment that has been recently
renovated with new furniture, bathrooms, and kitchen cabinets. You can
cook for yourself or with your roommate, or choose to eat in the dining hall.
There is no deadline, as assignments work on a first come, first serve basis
until the rooms are all full. Online applications are available beginning in
November for the following academic year.
First Year Students who apply by March 1st will be granted a spot in
Residence if their application for Academic Study has been processed by
that time. Since the Residence application is separate from the academic
application, it won’t be processed until both applications have been
received.
