NEWS!
The Riverside Community Association is proud to announce that they
have been awarded a Bronze Level London Youth Quality Mark, a quality
assurance scheme, a programme accredited by City and Guilds.
The Association are the first voluntary organisation in the London Borough
of Sutton to have achieved this.
The Quality Mark focuses on five key areas:
Safeguarding
Health, Safety and Resources
Staff and Volunteers
Young People
Management and Administration
In 2009 it was announced that City and Guilds were accrediting the London
Youth Quality Mark with Chris Jones, Director-General City and Guilds
saying...
'At City and Guilds developing the skills of people and organisations for their
personal and economic growth comes first and last in everything that we do.
This is why we are very excited with this new partnership created with
London Youth, who we have supported to develop their Quality Mark
Standards Programme. As their partner we are very happy for our name to
be associated with the London Youth Quality Mark which we see as a way
of helping us to realise our vision.’

Riverside Community Association and all the staff and volunteers at the
Riverside Centre would like to take this opportunity to welcome the new
residents of Baywillow Avenue and Ferndale Crescent. We would also like
to send our best wishes to all the residents of Durand Close who are also
moving into their new homes in Fellowes Road.
We wish you all a very happy time in your new homes. Please don’t forget
you’re still part of our community and we hope to see you enjoying the
activities here at the Riverside Centre.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Leisure and Education Activities for the whole community
Residents may have noticed a lot of film crews working on and
around Durand Close in the past 6 months. It seems that the local
area is ideal for filming. The Riverside Centre has also played host to
several film crews this year. In February Nonsense, a production
company used the centre as a base while they shot an advert for
Cancer Research UK.
“Back in February, we at Nonsense took over the Riverside
Community Centre for four days in order to film a few videos as part
of a campaign we have done for Cancer Research UK. The videos
focus around a fictional rapper, Leatha Face, who’s obsessed with
sunbeds and as a result has ridiculously orange skin. He thinks he’s
the bee’s knees but each video shows he’s just a wannabe, at the
same time underlining the huge dangers of using sunbeds and their
connection with skin cancer. The shoot was a lot of fun and the
campaign has been very successful but we would not have been able
to do it without the huge help and generosity of all involved at the
Riverside Centre as well as the residents of the Durand Close estate.
Thank you!
