SAVE THE DATE
Record cold temperatures through the first two months of 2015
have made both operations and shipments a major challenge. I do
want to thank our entire team for their dedication and commitment in
keeping safe, as sub-zero temperatures, ice and snow present extra
challenges and risks every day.
Similarly, many of our key markets, especially in New England are
dealing with record snowfalls. We are
however very optimistic that our shipments will ramp up quickly with warmer weather and thankfully Spring is
just around the corner.
2015 will be an exciting year at
McWane Ductile - New Jersey with the installation in August of our
first high speed Dalian casting machine.
McWane Ductile - Utah is now installing their second machine
and achieving excellent results as of late on their first machine. We
have the advantage of learning from their commissioning and a team
from New Jersey will be visiting Utah in a few weeks for hands on
training.
Other exciting projects will be the installation of the bell grinding
robot on the hot line, upgrades to the cooling zone of the oven which
will help address reanneals and utilizing components from Alabama,
the upgrade to our materials/alloy handling equipment. All of these
projects will help to make us safer and more competitive, by lowering our costs.
As we have discussed in our meetings, the keys to moving from
good to great are teamwork and a proactive positive attitude. As a
unified team, we can make McWane Ductile - New Jersey the safest
and most efficient plant we can be. Let’s do it in 2015!

Vendor Expo in Cromwell, CT. 600+ Water Professionals attended
this event which included 70 Vendor Displays.
In process of the name change, all employees received a new blue
hard hat with the new logo in the front and Iron Strong in the
back. These helmets not only represent that we are a team and
unified but that we are also part of something much bigger.
―On behalf of the construction team we wish to thank you
for the trip to the plant. It was very informative and exciting to see how the product is made before we bury it
forever. Please extend our thanks to the folks at the
McWane plant for the tour and hospitality.
I hope to do it again sometime in the future.
Thank you.‖ Michael Trick, Construction Services
Supervisor, The Metropolitan District

A team of McWane Ductile - New Jersey (MDNJ) employees in conjunction with
the McWane International staff have worked together to develop procedures for container loading of Ductile Iron pipe for export at the MDNJ facility in Phillipsburg, NJ.
This particular project called for MDNJ to supply 16,600ft of 12‖, 900 ft. of 8‖ and
600 ft. of 6‖ pipe to Djibouti – Africa. The pipe will be delivered to U.S Navy Camp Lemonnier which is the only American base located in Africa. Djibouti sits on the horn of
Africa and supports approximately 2,500 joint U.S and allied military and civilian personnel and U.S. Department of Defense contractors (Military Bases.US)
MDNJ team (Hal Eddings, Bill Cochran, Fran Tone and Steve Shambeda) along
with the Shipping and Safety Departments; have perfected the procedure in loading
export containers. A unique pusher was designed to help push the pipe in the cargo
area which attaches to our forklift. Job procedures were developed by and for the
Shipping Department just for these designated orders. Once the export container
leaves MDNJ it is then put on a cargo ship and sent overseas to its destination. This is
not an easy job task due to rearranging the pipe to fit the export load container and securing the bundles so the pipe does not shift inside the container during transport.
In order to do a project of this size as efficiently as possible it required a buy in
by all departments. Special width bundles were prepared by the finishing department.
The entire shipping team banded and prepared the bundles for container/export. Shipping documents were prepared and sent to the McWane International staff to coordinate with the freight brokers.
By having the containers loaded on site, it saves the company money by not having to have the containers loaded at the port, thereby helping McWane International
secure orders in a very competitive global market. This can be classified as a true
team effort by two divisions of McWane Inc..

custom make a lunch room that will be transported to our facility.

external auditors. Excellent teamwork!” - Dale Schmelzle

initiative to install a large
guard on the Presidential

appreciated that they
took the time to make
the safety improvement.”
