Lamberton Conservatory
Rochester, NY
The Lamberton Conservatory, located in Rochester, NY, was originally constructed in 1911 to allow
for continuous specialized exhibits of diverse plant species. By 2006, the original building had
deteriorated to the point that it was not cost effective to maintain and like most historic structures of that
Project of
the Year
period, time had gotten the better of it. But in 2007, the Monroe County Parks Department decided
it needed to do a complete tear down and historic reconstruction, maintaining every possible detail of
the original design.
The greenhouse atmosphere of this historical conservatory presents high demands of window materials due to the high interior
humidity and the variant outdoor temperatures from winter to summer. The challenge was to find a window material to parallel the
historic look, yet hold up to the interior humidity and outdoor conditions.
With its low thermal expansion, superior durability, and traditional appeal, Casements with Low E2 glass from Infinity Replacement
Windows were selected as the window of choice for the reconstruction project.

Highlights
yy After nearly a century of existence, Lamberton Conservatory needed a
full restoration because the high temperatures and humidity had taken a
toll on the original glass and steel surrounding the building.
yy In January 2009 the Lamberton Conservatory project received the
“2008 Historic Preservation/Restoration Public Works Project of the
Year” award from the American Public Works Association (APWA).
