Read, learn and play during International Games Day @ your library Riverside Regional Library joins thousands in celebrating the popularity and power of games and play. We will join hundreds of libraries throughout the country on November 21, 2015, for the eighth annual celebration of gaming in libraries – International Games Day @ your library. Like so many other libraries across the country and around the world, Riverside Regional Library will offer special gaming programs and events suitable for the whole family. “Libraries are becoming family destinations, and are continuously offering new formats and innovative programs and services that educate, entertain and expand interaction with their users,” said Jeff Trinkle, Director, Riverside Regional Library. “Gaming is yet another example of how libraries are becoming more than just educational resources for the communities that they serve. They are also places where users of all ages are welcome to have fun together. And if that fun exercises their brains, enables them to meet new people in a safe and enjoyable environment, and celebrates our community’s connection to each other and to libraries on every continent on Earth... well, that’s just the nature of games!” Riverside Regional Library cardholders can now download three free songs per week from the Sony music catalog. Cardholders can visit the library's website at www.rrlmo.org, where they'll find the "Freegal Music" icon. By clicking on that, typing in their library card number in the login box located on the Freegal download site, they can then download up to three songs a week directly to their computer. The songs are MP3 files, so they can be transferred to and played on iPods, Androids and many other devices as well as smartphones. Cardholders who need help or have any questions may call the library at (573) 243-8141, or they can visit their nearest branch for help. International Games Day @ your library is an international initiative supported by the American Library Association, the Australian Library and Information Association, and Nordic Game Day. 5 Performers whose music can be downloaded through this service include Yo-Yo Ma, Michael Jackson, Foo Fighters, Carrie Underwood, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Brad Paisley, the Fray, Alicia Keys and Britney Spears, to name just a few. Designed to encourage reading aloud to children from birth through kindergarten age, the award was first given in 1996. Children may select from books on display at their local branch of Riverside Regional Library and vote on their favorite title once they have listened to a minimum of five titles from this list. All votes are submitted to the Missouri Library Association and the book with the highest number of votes becomes the winner of that year's Missouri Building Block Award.
