Northridge Varsity Basketball
Team Makes History !!
Coming into the 2014-15 basketball season, everyone had high expectations for the boy's
basketball team. Last year we won the first SWBL title in 30 years, and Head Coach Jeff Lisath
was named SWBL Coach of the Year in just his first season with the Bears. With Coach Lisath
returning as Head Coach, we knew we would have a great season. However, no one could
have guessed just how successful and special this team would be. They made history!
As the wins for the Bears continued to pile up, it was evident this was a special team. The
Bears finished the regular season with a record of 20-2 and 12-0 in the League earning them
back to back SWBL titles. The Bears were rewarded with a #2 seed heading into the Sectional
tournament. The coaching staff and players were all focused, prepared, primed, and ready to play
their best basketball after making an early exit in last year’s Sectional. The Bears looked sharp
winning their first two games of the tournament - setting up a showdown with Stivers for the Sectional Championship. Hundreds of fans came out to support the Bears, and after a slow start, the
team defeated Stivers 60-38 for it's first Sectional Championship since 1980. Next up for the
Bears was D3 powerhouse Cincinnati Roger Bacon making their 8th consecutive appearance in
the District Finals. The Northridge community made a huge statement at U.D. Arena by filling
our section of the stands to cheer for our Bears. This game would prove to be a pivotal game for
the Bears. It erased all doubts - our record was no fluke! We deserved to be there! After trailing
by 18 points early in the first half, Coach Lisath made some half-time adjustments that had immediate results. The Bears tied the game in the 3rd. We led by as many as 18 in the fourth. We
soundly defeated Roger Bacon 74-61 to win our first District Championship since 1946!
Anyone watching the Bears cut down the nets at U.D. Arena with the crowd screaming
“We are Northridge” couldn't help but get goose bumps and feel great pride for our young
athletes’ history making achievement. It was a truly amazing scene to behold - even the usually stern-faced Coach Lisath smiled while giving the crowd a huge fist pump! The win put us in
the Div. III State Final 16 vs. the #1 seed Chaminade-Julienne in the Regional Semi-Finals. In
the Regional Semi, C.J. finally ended the Northridge season in a heart-breaking loss. As disappointed as the boy's were, everyone could not have been more proud of our team. Seeing the
Northridge community come together to support our history-making team was the real win
for our home called Northridge. History was made! Go Bears! We will be back next year.

Supt. Dave Jackson Says Thank You!
As we break for summer, I want to say thank you and express my heartfelt appreciation for your help this past
school year. We must never forget what a truly historic and memorable year it has been for our proud and Independent Northridge home. Not only did students continue to develop and achieve academically, we all grew closer as a
Northridge Community Family in our joint efforts to keep Northridge Independent and Strong - NOT FOR SALE!
We may not yet fully realize what an awesome victory Northridge won on Election Day, May 5th, and how important it is to the future of our community. The Northridge Community’s tremendous support FOR ISSUE 8 set in motion a 55 million facilities project helping to secure the Independent future of our schools and creating the centrally
located Northridge Community Campus and Park. All Northridge residents, community organizations, families,
adults, youth, students, and seniors will share in the new Northridge Community Campus and Park for all their educational, recreational, social, family, and athletic activities. This incredible project will be the heart and soul of our
home called Northridge.
We will never forget the incredible record setting performance of our Varsity Basketball Team. They won the
SWBL, Sectional, and District Championships. Most importantly, they unified our community and won the hearts
and minds of the entire Northridge Community Family. People from everywhere turned out in record numbers to
show their love and support. Amazing accomplishment, amazing team!
Our AMAZING school year was made complete when the Class of 2015 accepted their diplomas during commencement on May 30th. Congratulations to all of our graduates, and a special thank you to all who contributed to
this milestone achievement.
In closing, thank you again for your continued help, cooperation, and support. This historic year would not have
been possible without YOU - our Northridge Community Family. I will need your help again in the near future as
we continue the fight to keep Northridge Independent and Strong... TOGETHER WE WILL!
