Village Community Park
has received another
funding boost, thanks to
a $1 million donation from
Dole Foods.
The money will be used
to support an interactive
learning center and cafe
at the Y, which will provide an opportunity for
the public to access online wellness education
and nutritional guidance
as well as participate in
fitness activities.
The Westlake Villagebased company owned by
billionaire David Murdock
has now given a total of
$2 million to the Triunfo
YMCA project.
Murdock has personally given $11 million for
Westlake Village Community Park, which is a
joint initiative by the city
of Westlake Village and
the Southeastern Ventura
County YMCA.
"Mr. Murdock continues to help keep pushing
it forward," Triunfo Y Executive Director Ronnie
Stone said Friday.
"Support has been great,
and other donors are coming forward. In the last
month, I've met about 50
people who didn't know
about the project and are
~ow out there fundraising
and soliciting donations."
Stone said Murdock
and Ed Hogan of the Hogan Family Foundation
also reached out to Steven
Hilton, president and CEO
of the Conrad N. Hilton
Foundation in Agoura
Hills, and were successful
in getting a donation of
$100,000 from the philanthropic organization.

Other major donations
so far include a pledge
of $1 million from former Westlake Village
Mayor Doug Yarrow and
his wife, Penny, for the
fitness center.
Westlake Village has
spent $15 million on grading the pad and installing
utilities and basic landscaping on the 18-acre hilltop site above Thousand
Oaks Boulevard, west of
Lindero Canyon Road.

million more in its 2013-14
budget for the first phase
