THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!
As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one
another as good stewards of God's varied grace.
1 Peter 4:10
Imagine a large group of
travelers, lost in the midst
of a dense forest on a
starless black night. They
cannot see the path; they
cannot even see each other.
Little by little they wander
in different directions,
trying desperately to find
their way forward through
the immense trees, all the
while spreading further and
further apart. Suddenly a bright white lantern shines from the edge of
the forest. Their fear flees with the darkness. As they head toward the
light they rejoin one another and rejoice to discover the one way out of
the forest. The imagery of light in the darkness threads its way through
the Sundays of Ordinary Time between Christmas and Lent. It reminds
us that the Light of the World, whose dawning we celebrated during the
Advent/Christmas season, is the same light of Christ whose flame will
purify and enlighten us during Lent and enkindle the fire of the Holy
Spirit in us during the fifty days of Easter. This week our first reading
likens the salvation of the “District of the Gentiles” to light dispelling
darkness, anguish, and gloom. Matthew’s Gospel characterizes Jesus as
a light arising in “Galilee of the Gentiles,” beckoning the fishermen to
join together in following him along the way. Paul exhorts us to remain
united on the one way that follows the light of our one and only Lord,
Jesus Christ. Copyright © 2013, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.
Directives for the Flu Season for
Ministers, Altar Servers and
Parishioners in Liturgical Celebrations
FOR THE WEEKEND OF
JANUARY 19, 2014
Difference:
REFLECTING ON GOD’S WORD
Remember, God’s People are excused from
attending Mass if they are ill with the flu or have
reason to believe that they have flu-like
symptoms. Those who must care for a sick family member at home,
or who reasonably fear they will spread a flu virus if they leave home
are also excused from Mass.
1. Do NOT come to Mass when you have flu-like symptoms.
2. Do NOT bring sick children to Mass or to school.
3. Symptoms of flu in humans includes: Cough, fever, sore throat,
stuffy nose, chills, headache and body aches, fatigue, (and
sometimes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea).
4. Do NOT shake hands (e.g., greetings and sign of peace) if you
have a scratchy throat, the “sniffles,” coughing, or sneezing.
5. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that Pastors not distribute the
Precious Blood (the chalice) during the flu season.
We
DISCOURAGE distribution of the Host on the tongue until this flu
epidemic has passed. Doing so can contaminate the entire
ciborium if a finger touches an infected person on the tongue or
mouth, and then returns to the ciborium.
6. Wash your hands before and after touching your eyes, face or
mouth.

Teen Gospel Reflection
Sometimes I let my fear of the unknown get
in the way of what really matters because I
am too afraid, too doubtful to simply cast all
of my possessions and luxuries aside and
follow Christ. We all get worried that if we
open ourselves fully to God that He won’t
like what He sees, leading Him to turn us
away. We live in a world where our peers
are constantly judging our imperfections and
mistakes, which makes us feel as if our
human qualities are going to make God love
us less. We get so caught up in this fear that
we forget that God already knows every
single part of us: every wrongdoing, every
fear, every truth that we hide even from
ourselves. The truth is that God doesn’t
care about all of our mistakes. He
only wants us to have the courage to stand
up, cast all of our doubts and burdens aside,
and follow Him. I often find myself
wondering how our perfect Father could
love such imperfect children, but then I see
Jesus on the cross. God knows that we are
far from pure, but He invites us to follow
Him so that we may take part in the good
that He does and learn to become more like
Him. Cassie, age 17 LIFETEEN

National Catholic Schools Week 2014
January 26 - February 1
Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith,
Knowledge, and Service
National Catholic Schools Week is the
annual celebration of Catholic education
in the United States. It starts the last
Sunday in January and runs all week,
which in 2014 is January 26 to February
1. Schools typically observe National
Catholic Schools Week with Masses,
open house and other activities for students, families,
parishioners and community members. Through these events,
schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to
young people and its contributions to our church, our
communities and our nation.
“Come follow me.” He called the
first disciples, Peter, Andrew, James
and John, to form a community that
would proclaim His Gospel.

Bienvenidos a San Antonio de Padua.
REFLEXIONEMOS SOBRE LA PALABRA DE DIOS
Imaginémonos un grupo
grande de viajeros perdidos
en medio de un bosque
espeso y una noche sin
estrellas. No pueden ver el
camino, ni siquiera se
pueden ver unos a otros.
Poco a poco van
deambulando en diferentes
direcciones tratando
d e s e s p e r a d a me n t e d e
dispongan a seguirlo. Pablo nos exhorta a seguir unidos por el único
camino que nos dirige al único Señor: Jesucristo. Derechos de autor © 2013,

@Pontifex_es 20 ene.
No nos limitemos a decir que somos
cristianos. Debemos vivir la fe, no sólo con
las palabras, sino también con obras.
@Pontifex_es 18 ene.
Las guerras destrozan muchas vidas. Pienso
especialmente en los niños a los que les han
robado su infancia.
@Pontifex_es 16 ene.
¡Qué poderosa es la oración! No perdamos
nunca el ánimo para decir: Señor,
concédenos tu paz.
@Pontifex_es 14 ene.
Pidamos por la paz, y busquemos construirla,
comenzando desde casa.
