Rupea Cohalm Fortress
Brașov
One could easily believe the local
folk tales, which say this fortress was
built by giants. It has an outstanding
silhouette on a lonely basalt hill in the
vast plateau on the way between Brașov
and Sighișoara. The citadel is one of the
Seven Saxon Seats (Sieben Stühle) from
Transylvania, a place where crafts and
commerce were blooming during Middle
Ages; it was first mentioned in historical
documents from 1324.
Coiled in stone, the fortress has grown
over centuries. Its three precincts are
now open to the public, after a complex
works of restoration, completed in
June 2013. The local public authorities
are looking for investors and partners
who are willing to turn it into a vivid
multi-purpose cultural and creative centre.

Walking down the hill, one arrives in the
old heart of the town and its main road:
the Republicii Street. The traditional
Saxon houses located on this street offer
various investment opportunities for
start-ups in the field of cultural tourism
and cultural creative entrepreneurship.
The fortress is located in a natural
reserve, close to Viscri and Sighișoara,
both UNESCO sites. It has a good access
to E60 European route and facilities
such sewage, clean water, electricity;
moreover, the towers and annexes have
refurbished interiors, ready to be used for
various activities.
It covers a total surface of 1.44 hectares,
including the walls, towers, and inner
precincts.
