Jake is a beautiful, 4 year old tri-colored neutered Australian
Shepherd, weighing about 50 lbs. He was rescued while wandering
the streets during a thunderstorm. Jake is athletic and smart and
gets along well with other dogs; he ignores cats. He enjoys running
the yard, riding in a car, but mostly he likes quiet indoor time and
the attention of his people, including children. Jake is affectionate,
leaning on his family members, sitting on their feet and nudging
them with his nose when he wants to get their attention.
For more information aboue Jake e-mail [email protected] or call

ADVERTISING
Magazine space is no-cost to organizations or individuals caring for
animals who need homes. Monthly business rates are $300/150/75/35
for a full-page/half-page/quarter-page/business card ad in color, and
$200/100/50/25 for grayscale ads. A one year subscription is $25.
ADOPTION CRITERIA
Each organization in Critter has its own adoption criteria. All organizations require an adoption contract and a fee to recoup basic expenses. All will require that your adoptee be a pet, not merely a utility
animal for protection or hunting. Most will ensure that the animals
are spayed or neutered at the time of adoption; underfunded shelters
may instead require a spay/neuter contract and a deposit that will
be refunded upon proof of spay or neuter. Most will want to visit your
home and see where the pet will live. Because many of these animals
have not been well treated in the past, extra care is taken to ensure
their safety and happiness in the future.

KNOXVILLE

Midnight was
surrendered to a local
shelter with a partially
amputated tail. Then,
because of an infection,
the rest of her tail had
to be amputated as
well. Now, her tail is
healing nicely, and she
is starting to come out
of her shell.
Midnight is good with
other dogs and is
learning what cats
are. She is still young
(around 18 months)
and has made a lot
of progress in a short
period of time.

Sherrie (left) is a 7 year
old red female. She was
in a home for a few years.
However the family dynamics
changed, and there was no
longer room for her. Sherrie
has settled right into her
foster home with several
other dogs and cats. She is
mellow, calm, and lovable.
Obelia (right) is a 4 year old
female. She has been a quiet
little girl the few days she has
been away from the track.
She tested small-animal
tolerant while at the track and
has done well with 2 very
active small dogs. Obelia is
learning all about retirement
and being a family pet.

house manners and polite

Anita is very bright and

WHY SPAY & NEUTER?
nSPAYING & NEUTERING SPARES THE LIVES OF
UNWANTED PETS! Only 1 in 9 cats and dogs born in the
U.S. will find a home. The rest will be destroyed because
nobody wants them.
nSPAYING & NEUTERING CALMS YOUR PET! Altered
animals make more affectionate companions. Altered
animals are less likely to bite because they are more eventempered.

Spay/Neuter Clinic

SAFETY! Neutered males are less likely to roam, run away,
or get into fights. Spayed females are less likely to attract
unwanted animals into your yard.
nSPAYING & NEUTERING EXTENDS YOUR PET’S
LIFE! Altered animals live longer, healthier lives. Female
cats and dogs have reduced risks of uterine, ovarian, and
breast cancers. Male cats and dogs have reduced risks of
prostate cancer and disorders.

The American College of Veterinary
Surgeons (ACVS) certifies veterinarians as
specialists in surgery. When your dog or
cat needs advanced surgery, they depend
on you to find a veterinarian with sufficient
experience and training to perform that
surgery. A Board-Certified ACVS Surgeon
provides unconditional reassurance of
advanced training and expertise. . . giving
you the confidence that your pet is in the best
hands. www.acvs.org
