That’s why investing in beautifully tailored lingerie that fits like a dream and makes you feel like a princess is… well, vital. We love these sets by Goddess and Chantelle. © Anna Scholz Be charmed by fashion’s fascination with fairytales, as seen at shows such as Marchesa and Temperley. Anything but childish, this trend is about making dressing up fun again. It’s not about costumes, it’s about diaphanous fabrics, delicate lace, whimsical hues and feminine tailoring (see below). ‘ Look for pieces that feel luxurious and float and swish as you move SHOP THE TREND ► A/W 14 Marchesa Fashion Show GODDESS SHOP ALL NEW ITEMS ► Style Council New season NEW YOU My favourite A/W MUST HAVE ‘This blouse is topping my new season shopping list’ Luciana Schmidt MANON BAPTISTE I LOVE THIS LOOK… ‘Everyone who knows me is familiar with my pencil skirt obsession. I love this version in deep wine red and black. Teamed with a tailored jacket, it’s the perfect 9 to 5 outfit. For evening, I would swap the jacket for a sleeveless lace blouse which I would wear tucked into the waistband. Some black peeptoes (weather permitting) and it’s a perfect new season look.’ SHOP NEW IN ► MAXIMA Style Council member, make-up artist and fashion blogger Luciana reveals her new season trend picks for the coming months ‘This blouse is wonderful. If you have an O type figure and are looking to optically stretch the silhouette, this is perfect. It has a classic, timeless aesthetic too, which means it will look wonderful this season, and for seasons to come too. Wear with a skirt, tailored trousers or jeans.’ ZAY Get the look Fashion obsessed Franceta travels the world checking out trends and attending shows. Here are a few of her favourite city specific looks for the coming season NEW YORK CISO YPPIG PARIS ZIZZI MANON BATISTE Franceta embraces the Australian city’s global traveller vibe by using her Zizzi skirt as an outfit focal point, and teaming with a sheer top (a Johnson staple) and classic tan coat. We love this Manon Baptiste version. So classic. MANON BAPTISTE SHOP ALL LOOKS ► COLEEN BOW Dressing like a true New York fashionista is all about giving the impression of effortlessness. Team with a long line blazer, form fitting trousers and sneakers. – www.francetajohnson.com – MELBOURNE HERMANN LANGE SAMOON City chic with Franceta Johnson The Breton-inspired stripe top is a perennial classic. We love this one by Coleen Bow. The edgy vest and sleek pencil skirt complete the look and give it an updated, new season feel. Tres chic. Wardrobe update GREY © streetfsn.com MATTERS ZAY MANON BAPTISTE CARMAKOMA Grey is anything but dull, just ask the designers at New York Fashion Week where grey featured in everything from cashmere coats to gorgeous gowns and denim. Darker washes are forgiving and flattering, while midrange shades are super easy to match. We love this pair by Aprico, from their S/S collection. The pale grey hue has a vertical grain that’s lighter at the front and darker on the back and sides, which creates an optical illusion effect adding length to legs and smoothness to curves. Embrace this season’s tough chic trend and team yours with an edgy statement T. Style trick Handle tie scarves Show your treasured tote how much you love it by wrapping a scarf around its handle. Fold your scarf in half to get a narrow band. Insert the scarf through one handle only so you can open your bag. Tie a bow, or let it drape or wrap snugly around your bag’s handles. SHOP SCARFS NOW ► PASSIGATTI We’re already planning a gazillion ways to restyle our S/S grey jeans for the coming season… Shape clinic What lies beneath? SHEER PIECES You should spend as much time picking out your lingerie as you do the outfit you wear over it. The right pieces will enhance your curves, smooth your silhouette and make you feel a million dollars Finding a bra to wear underneath a diaphanous top can be tricky. Not only does it need to be opaque enough to provide adequate nipple coverage, but it needs to be delicate enough to avoid drawing attention away from the top itself. Opt for a full coverage bra or one with moulded cups, with wide straps, simple design and smooth fabric. We like the Goddess Keira bra which is smooth, discreet yet pretty enough to wear underneath sheer tops. You need a bra that offers plenty of support and doesn’t draw the eye away from the neckline. Go for a bra that’s been especially designed for the purpose, like the elegant Superbe bra by Chantelle. © Chantelle PLUNGING NECKLINES TOP TIP #1 CLINGY JERSEY You need a bra that disappears as soon as you slip on your clothes. Go for a classic t-shirt bra that provides a smooth line and gives support. Nude bras are extremely versatile and are the fashion insider’s choice for under almost anything, try a nude bra under a white shirt, it will blend into your skin and be invisible. Try Chantelle’s Rive Gauche Full Cup t-shirt bra for a flawless silhouette and supreme fit. You want to show off your shoulders in a strapless dress, not spend the night yanking up your strapless bra. Go for an underwired style that has a wide underband (this is where the majority of a bra’s support comes from anyway, not the straps). The Elomi Strapless Bra is amazing as the wide band gives you the support you need minus the straps. ‘The breast should be completely encased in the underwire and the underwire should follow the natural curve of your breast’ says Clare. THE BRA FITTING GUIDE ► © Elomi (3) STRAPLESS by Clare Brown, Head of Lingerie, navabi Bijou moulded plunge bra by Elomi AT THE GYM Nothing gets in the way of a good workout like a pair of unsupported bosoms. Not only is it uncomfortable, it can be painful too. So the right sports bra, that offers a bespoke level of support, is vital. MANON BAPTISTE PIU TE So many fabulous outfits, so little time… to help you, our fashion editors have put together a hot list of A/W must-haves Making women look and feel fabulous since 1879, French lingerie label Chantelle is one of the foremost lingerie couture houses today Just because our lingerie is most often hidden doesn’t mean we should not take as much care with it as we do our clothes, says Mary Cameron, of Chantelle. ‘No French woman would go out in frumpy lingerie, no matter what she is wearing or for whom. I believe every woman should own lingerie that exists simply to make her feel wonderful. Even if no one but you is going to see it, there’s no greater feeling than wearing a set of lingerie that you feel amazing in.’ As befits a French fashion house, the lace, fabric and hardware used in each piece is elegant and luxurious. Even the simplest bras have thoughtful finishing touches like tiny bows or a delicate signature ‘C’ which give each piece a little extra je ne sais quoi. we love Designer spotlight CHANTELLE Vendôme Attention to detail and exquisite stitching in every piece © Chantelle Rive Gauche Smooth lines and pretty design make this pair a hit SHOP CHANTELLE NOW ► MELISSA MCCARTHY ©gettyimages Celebrity look From Bridesmaids to her hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, Melissa McCarthy is officially one of Hollywood’s top female comedic actresses – and her red carpet style?
